Shopping and more

Oct 2022 • Family

If you are into shopping, or if the weather is not that good, Plaza Las Americas will supply everyone in your family with lots of fun. It is the largest mall in the Caribbean. People come from other Caribbean islands just to shop here! The mall is located in the Hato Rey zone of San Juan. There are about 300 stores, including the anchor stores of JC Penney, Macy’s, and Sears. There are many other stores, most of which you will find in any mall in the mainland US (like Gap, Banana Republic, Forever 21) There is a movie theater (in PR some movies are in Spanish and other are in English with Spanish subtitles) . They also hqve designers stores (Carolina Herrera, Michael Kors).

If you are hungry, there are loads of budget friendly restaurants like Sizzler’s, Macaroni and Grill, Chili’s, and a large food court on the third floor.

Above the Grand Court, by the JC Penney entrance, there’s another 3rd floor section with a Farmer’s Market, a local Artisan Fair that happens here every weekend and a bookshop.

Huge mall

Aug 2022 • Couples

This mall is insane! Normally you hear how malls are sort of dying out but the crowds her were large and it was only around 3:00 in the afternoon. The crowd is a mix of tourist but a big portion is people from the island. The selection of stores to be able to shop at is quite large ; from big box to smaller stores. They also have a pretty big food court as well. The one warning I will give you is be prepared to have difficulties with parking. It is not easy.

If You Can’t Find It Here, You Don’t Need It!

Jul 2022

By far, one of the best malls in the USA and the absolute best in the Caribbean, hands down! The only thing missing is another high end department store like Bloomingdale’s or Nordstrom to compliment Macy’s. Other than that, it has everything else from designer stores like Louis Vuitton and Tiffany’s to good chain restaurants like Cheesecake Factory and PF Chang’s. Marshall’s, JC Penny’s and Sears are also here to cater to the more moderate shopper and there’s a Puebla grocery store right across the street. So, like I said in the title, if you can’t find it here, you don’t need it!

Very large mall

May 2022

This mall was nice and had all the stores you might want to patronize. I especially liked that it wasn’t terribly crowded but busy. There weren’t many directories that I could find and that would be helpful with such a big mall.

It’s like any other big mall, but I enjoyed it.

Aug 2021

This is like a Latino version of the Mall of America in Minnesota. It’s almost completely surrounded by parking ramps and is a bit of a chore to get to. Inside it’s absolutely enormous, with four anchor stores, a wide range of shops ranging from upscale to budget, and a huge food court. I particularly enjoyed eating at Plaza las Americas. I was able to enjoy local options like El Meson sandwiches and the “biscuit helado” from Church’s chicken in a pleasant, non-threatening setting.

THE mall to shop in Puerto Rico

Jun 2021 • Couples

20JUN2021

Parking: easy to find and navigate (free)

Public transportation: buses go from Condado to here regularly (USD$0.75/person/way/exact change only)

COVID-19 precautions: like the entire island, masks required, temp checks and hand sanitizers at mall entrance doors, ample room to social distance

Why go here: This is where all the best fashions and highest end stores are OPEN.
Focus on Latino fashion businesses: Valija (women), Mango (m/w), Zara (m/w).

Warning: at this time, dressings rooms are closed, which means: 1) buy what you think fits and like, bring it home, try it on; 2) return what you don’t want; 3) LONG (I mean 20+ in line) lines at checkout; be patient, cashiers are very efficient and the lines move quickly; build in 30 minutes or bring a friend and get them in line.

Surprise: TJ Maxx and Marshalls have tons of great, inexpensive, beachwear. Check it out.

ok but needs more trendy stores

Feb 2021

This mall is not what it use to be. A lot less stores since hurricane maria. Totally not worth visiting. It does have a lot of food in food court. About 25 different varieties of food. Most of the stores are gone. gap, old navy bath and body works and Victoria secret are the main stores there. Department stores macys and jc penney. I would not visit again.

I guess this has been my go-to mall in PR because of its proximity to most hotels in San Juan. Uber fares are cheap to get there and I can pretty much spend the entire day with a good variety of stores and restaurants at different price points.

Food, shop and a movie

Dec 2021 • Family

As it was said previously, this is a big place. They have 2 theater. One theater is a VIP with very reclinable leather seats. The other theater has also comfortable chair and there is one 4 D theater. When you watch a movie in a 4D, there is a memorable experience.

Overall, this Mall has something for everyone.

Also, you can UBER to and from this place. You have to walk away from the taxis so you have a better chance to be picked up.

Large, well organized Mall, worth a visit.

Mar 2021

We came here for a couple of reasons: it’s the largest shopping mall in Cancun; they have a Sears; they have Krispy Kreme Donuts.
If you’re after some shopping while in Cancun, this Mall is in the Downtown area, so if you have a car, that’s no problem, but there are many buses that can get you here too.
The Sears reminded me of my childhood (when we used to have to make our Christmas wish list from the Sears catalog): it was a real department store. It’s well-stocked with quality merchandise and salespeople are easy to find.
Krispy Kreme was delicious! The same quality you’d find in the USA.

Very large, very good shopping mall

Mar 2020

This is the largest shopping mall in Cancun and you could spend all day here without trying.
Besides stores like, Sears, H&M, Radio Shack, Krispy Kreme, Old Navy, you can find Liverpool, which is a very large Mexican department store. The food court has all the fast food you could want (McDonalds, Burger King, Johnny Rockets, Olive Garden, Starbucks, Chili’s, Hooters and more—but why when you can get authentic Mexican food?)
There is also a casino here…really.
This is not really a “tourist” mall, so you’re not going to find any souvenir shops here, but you can still find some nice gifts that are better than your usual souvenirs.

Centro Comercial Safari is the center of the “Golden Mile”!!!

Oct. 2016 • For two

I love this island… We lived a stone’s throw from this shopping center… in the Best Tenerife hotel… This shopping complex is located in the heart of Las Americas… on “Golden Mile”..it is a big shopping street….here you can buy products of brands….Burberry..Hugo Boss…Ralph Lauren..and others…There are handbag stores…Also there is branded Timberland store…very good!!! Also …there are democratic brands like Stradivarius…Besides.. if you need expensive watches (Ulis Nardin…Patek Fili….and others) …go here ..this is the store..Ideal …. See bargain and you will have a discount!!!! At that time, prices were 25-30% less than similar watches in Russia… In addition… there are several good wine and vodka shops where prices will pleasantly surprise you!!! In general, we recommend visiting it . . especially in the evening .. (shops are mostly open until 21-30 … ).. you can watch the show of singing fountains in the very center of this store … a very beautiful sight … I hope my review will help you and was very helpful!!! nine0003

I always try to choose a hotel or apartment nearby.

Nov. 2015

It’s not even that this is an exceptional place for shopping. This is the heart of Las Americas. Glitter, luxury and beauty, glamour! nine0128 It pulls here every evening. We understood this a long time ago. Back in 1998, when almost immediately behind the fountain there was a field of mowed lawn over which a balloon hung. We ran here almost from Troy beach, every evening, plunging into the atmosphere of pre-Christmas mood. We bought gifts for family and friends for the New Year and even on February 23 and March 8. They hid them from each other while packing their luggage.
And for the last 5 years we have been choosing hotels near Safari – Best Tenerife or Andorra. We are always a family in Tenerife and always during the autumn holidays at the beginning of November. Upon arrival, Halloween meets us, and Santa Claus sees us off. In Safari, this is especially noticeable. Three years ago, in one of the entrances, there were two wonderful deer, which have now disappeared somewhere. nine0128 I’m not a fan of shops in Safari, but my girls enjoy them and enjoy them.
It’s almost a ritual when I sit down on a bench at the color music fountain located in the heart of the Safari Center and wait for the splashes of water to begin their dance to one of my favorite tunes from the 2001 Space Odyssey movie. In the fall of 2015, for some reason, I did not wait for this melody. Although it was always after 20:00.
What do my girls buy here?
– cosmetics, jewelry and footwear. nine0128 I buy jeans at Levi’s and brandy Carlos 1 for 23 euros in one of the liquor stores, the name of which I don’t remember for the life of me and probably don’t even know. Only in the duty free of the Reina Sofia airport, the same Carlos 1 is 5-10 euros more expensive.
Next to the Safari on the street, there is a kiosk that sells pearls. They speak Russian. Last year I bought my wife black pearl beads here, which at first aroused delight, but now they are lying around at home among a pile of such rubbish. But it was a delight! nine0128 Here you can not buy anything, but just walk and enjoy the air, people, the atmosphere of celebration and relaxation.
Compatriots in the evening can be distinguished by shales and beach shorts.

Pleasant shopping within walking distance

Nov. 2015 • Family holidays

If you are on holiday in Playa de las Americas, this is the most convenient commercial center for you. It is located in the heart of Playa de las Americas on the Golden Mile, and from any corner of the city you can come here on foot.
Safari is the first in a complex of three commercial centers located along the Golden Mile, and in terms of shopping, it is very successful. Here you will find multi-brand clothing and jewelry stores, Nike, Punt Roma, Stradivarius, Timberland, Guess, Levi’s, shoe stores, perfumery and cosmetics. In addition, in the evening there is a performance at the singing fountain. It makes sense to visit two other commercial centers. So in the third Oasis commercial center there is Zara, where the range of goods and prices differ from Russian stores for the better. Significantly lower than in Russia, even taking into account the euro, prices in Pandora (it is located in the second commercial center, unfortunately I don’t remember its name). In addition, in all three commercial centers you will find shops for bags, perfumes, sunglasses, clothes. Perfumes, by the way, are cheaper than in duty free, and of good quality. The Oasis also has a Springfield. On the other side of the road, opposite Zara, is Esprit. Bershca is located next to Safari. nine0128 So that for several evenings you are guaranteed a pleasant shopping experience.
In addition, in all commercial centers there are cafes and restaurants for every taste.

A whole complex of shops, restaurants, cafes, clubs. There is also a fairly good supermarket with a good selection of pastries and local wines. Siam Mall

The most popular shopping center for buying clothes, shoes and accessories in the south of Tenerife. There are many shops of famous brands such as Zara, Timberland, Mango, H&M and others. Siam Mall is located in the south of the island in the Las Americas region, next to the Siam Park water park. There are always a lot of tourists here, but there are no crowds. It is better to arrive in the morning. Siam Mall has several cafes, a HiperDino grocery store, and playgrounds.
nine0003

Golden Mile in Las Americas

A popular shopping center in the south of Tenerife. There are always a lot of tourists because of the location. The Golden Mile is the name of the Avenida de las Americas between Las Americas and Los Cristianos.

The avenue is a whole ensemble of shops and boutiques. There are budget brands a la Mango, Pull & Bear, Stradivarius, Zara and expensive Prada, Armani, Hugo Boss, Gucci. The main shopping center of the Golden Mile is Safari. Each store here operates according to its own schedule. Many are open until late in the evening, so you can take your time on the Safari.
nine0003

Grand Sur

A shopping center in the south of Tenerife in the usual form for Russians. Many shops, cafes and supermarkets are gathered under one roof. There is a free Wi-Fi hotspot in Grand Sur. Minus: the choice of clothes is poorer than in Siam Mall and Golden Mile. Grand Sur is located next to Torviscas, exit 30 from Autopisti SUR.

El Corte Ingles

El Corte Inglés is a chain of department stores throughout Spain. In Tenerife, it is popular among visitors to the northern part of the island. Goods are not cheap, but high quality.
nine0003

On the last floor there are children’s clothing stores, a floor below men’s clothing for men, and below is a women’s paradise. On the ground floor of the shopping center there is a large supermarket of groceries and delicacies.

Don’t forget to get the El Corte Inglés 10% discount coupon for foreigners.

Merediano and Carrefour

A large shopping center with shops of inexpensive but well-known brands. There are many good products in the Carrefour hypermarket. Works since 9-00 to 22-00. Finding Carefur is easy: take the exit next to the turn to Tenerife North Airport from the South Autobahn, following the Centro Commercial sign. Next to the Media Markt electronics store with gadgets and household appliances.

Plaza del Duque

Beautiful mall located in the expensive part of the tourist area of Costa Adeje. If you are looking for budget brands, then Plaza del Duc is a waste of time. Expensive shopping for wealthy tourists of the island of Tenerife and guests of four-star hotels near El Duc beach.
nine0003

Alcampo La Laguna

The shopping center is known for inexpensive food and clothing shopping. Alcampo is French Auchan in Spain. A large hypermarket, with one of the most affordable prices in all of Tenerife. In Spain, stores like Auchan bear little resemblance to ours. In Tenerife, in Auchan, high quality products, no crowds, good service and a huge selection.

Nearby is the largest sports store – Decathlon.

Finding Auchan and Decathlon is easy, the exit is 5 kilometers after the turn from the Southern Autobahn to La Laguna.
nine0003

Carrefour

In the capital of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, there is another shopping center Carefour. Its official name is Centro Commercial Santa Cruz. Large selection of products from all over Europe and simple shops. Unpretentious. Near the Carefur shopping center there is a large store of household appliances Media Markt.

Alcampo – La Villa

Another Auchan in the north. If you are in the Puerto de la Cruz area, then you can stop by this shopping center with free parking. It’s not worth going here from the south.
nine0003

Tres de Mayo

Shopping center with free parking next to El Corte Ingles in Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

La Tejita Street Market

Tiny shopping center near La Tejita beach next to El Medano. Built for neighboring real estate complexes. There is a Dialprix supermarket, several shops and cafes. We recommend trying the Indian restaurant Bombay Babu.

Shopping in Tenerife

Of course, when a family decides to go to Tenerife, first of all they think that children will be comfortable and interesting here, that the older generation will be able to enjoy delicious organic products and wines, men, if they wish, will be able to fish in the ocean, go surfing, play golf or tennis. And to be honest, Tenerife is not a mecca for shopaholics. But shopping in Tenerife should not be abandoned due to very low prices for European goods and, perhaps, because there are brands of clothing, household goods and children’s things that cannot be purchased in Russia, but they deserve attention. The Canary Islands are a special economic zone, and VAT and excise taxes on many goods are lower than in the rest of Europe.
nine0003

Clothing, footwear and accessories

There are several rules for successful shopping in the south of the island. It is advisable to buy not in tourist places, but where the Spaniards are bought. Many stores in Las Americas are now owned by people from India and Sri Lanka. There are shops owned by Russian owners. Hence a slightly strange assortment, outdated collections, high prices, and, in general, there is a question of the authenticity of the goods.

But among this “splendor”, even in Las Americas, you can find small boutiques with interesting Spanish goods. This refers to goods of interesting design, often even made in Europe, and not China. So worth your attention, for example, Bimba y Lola (clothing for women), Piel de Toro (Spanish analogue of Ralph Lauren), Custo Barcelona (clothing in crazy colors), Natura, well, democratic Mango and Zara. The latest brands, of course, are represented in Russia, but the prices here are much lower and the quality is better. When traveling to the north of Tenerife, pay attention to Adolfo Dominguez and Carolina Hererra.
nine0003

Jewelry and watches

Basically, all the world’s leading jewelry brands and watches in the south of Tenerife are sold by the Ideal boutique chain. When buying, try to bargain, sometimes sellers can give a discount of up to 15%. In the capital city of Santa Cruz (Santa Cruz de Tenerife) in the El Cortes Ingles department store (read more about it below), there is a corner of the Tous brand with jewelry, accessories and bags. For Spaniards, this brand is a real fetish. Jewelry of unusual design, bags and accessories have already found thousands of fans.
nine0003

Children’s goods

There are not many children’s shops in the south of the island. For example, in Las Americas, in the Safari shopping center, you should look into the clothing and footwear store Zippy Kidstore. Closer to the ocean, on the embankment, there are Outlet by Benetton. In case you want to save money, this is a good option, children’s things are sold for just a few euro coins. Buying good toys made from natural materials, unusual constructors, educational toys is in the Spanish chain Imaginarium (located in La Orotava) and Eurekakids (San Cristobal de La Laguna).
nine0003

Shopping in the north of the island ( Norte de Tenerife)

Excursions to the north of the island, and this area should not be left without your attention, can be combined with buying gifts for relatives and friends, and, of course, for yourself. For example, if you go to the ancient city with amazing architecture of La Laguna (San Cristobal de La Laguna), then on the central pedestrian streets (…) you will find many boutiques and shops with antiques, clothes and jewelry. Many of these things are handmade. Also pay attention to bookstores, photo and art albums will pleasantly surprise you with their assortment and prices. Be sure to visit one of the many shops with delicacies and wines. You can ask to taste drinks and goodies after taking a break from a long walk, this is normal and accepted.
nine0003

Say, tired of a beach holiday, you are going to the capital of Santa Cruz (Santa Cruz de Tenerife). Then a significant amount of time should be devoted to a visit to the largest department store in Spain, El Cortes Ingles, which presents leading brands of clothing and accessories, children’s clothing, toys and household goods (Ralph Lauren, Armani, Escada, the aforementioned Adolfo Domingez and Carolina Hererra, a also dozens of other brands, including more democratic ones). Next to El Cortes Ingles is the Carrefour Meridiano megamall. Reminiscent of our Mega chain of stores with democratic clothing brands, a cinema and a food court. In Santa Cruz, we recommend taking a walk along Calle Pilar and the lanes adjacent to it with many shops, where, tired after a long promenade, you can relax in a beautiful square with a cafe.
