9000 %. According to officials, the opening of the new railway junction will take place by the end of 2020
Construction of the new passenger hub for Bangkok is about 70% complete. Officials say the new railway junction will open by the end of 2020.
Bang Sue Grand Station will be a four-story, 300,000-square-meter building that will replace Bangkok’s main railway station, Hua Lamphong Station.
The project is coordinated by the railway operator State Railways of Thailand (SRT). The opening date of the new railway hub is timed to coincide with the completion of the construction of the last sections of the light red and dark red commuter lines.
Located on the northern edge of central Bangkok, Bang Sue Complex has been under construction for more than a decade. The original design of the station has changed significantly over time, because. the original plan was for a predominantly local rail hub, providing links only to the northern and western suburbs.
Over the past few years, the location of Bang Sue Station has taken on greater strategic importance as various proposals have been put forward by the Thai government and international sponsors for new intercity rail services.
On the ground floor of the new four-story building of the station there will be a parking lot for 1700 cars. On the ground floor there are ticket offices and shopping areas. On the second floor there will be 12 main platforms, of which four will be for suburban trains and eight for intercity flights. Together, the three levels are scheduled to open in 2020.
The last fourth floor will house 12 more platforms for proposed new routes. A final completion date for this part of the station has not yet been set. Two of these platforms have already been reserved for the proposed connection of the three airports.
