The Best Vacation Spots for Couples: From Beach to Adventure
Inspiration
Whether you crave a blissed-out spa getaway, a culinary vacation, or an adventure-packed itinerary.

The best vacation spots for couples are steeped in timeless romance. Whether it’s a cruise down the Nile or a saunter through sultry Buenos Aires, some places have simply mastered the art of seduction.
Still, no vacation is one size fits all, and while some couples want to escape to the golden sands of the Caribbean, other people’s idea of romance might look like a getaway to South Africa’s wine country, or seeing the Northern Lights in Iceland.
So, how to plan a romantic getaway tailor-made for two? “My favorite piece of advice is to leave room for spontaneity,” says luxury travel advisor Amina Dearmon, the founder and owner of Perspectives Travel. “Our lives are already so over-scheduled, it’s important to have the freedom to do absolutely nothing and enjoy each other’s company, no matter which destination you choose.”
For domestic trips, she loves the wellness-focused resorts in Arizona like Canyon Ranch Tucson and the soon-to-reopen Mii Amo. As for international destinations, she recommends the Caribbean islands of Anguilla, Dominica, and St. Lucia, as well as Venice, Italy. And if you’re going to splurge, Dearmon suggests balling out on your accommodations (“It’s your home away from home”) and opting for extras like VIP meet and greets at the airport (“It’s a service that makes up a small percentage of your total trip cost, but it can make the biggest difference in your travel day.”).
To get a jumpstart on your planning, here are the 27 best vacation spots for couples, whether you crave a blissed-out spa getaway, a culinary vacation, or an adventure-packed itinerary.

Cap Juluca, a Belmond Hotel, Anguilla
For beach bliss, cookbook author and “Top Chef” judge Gail Simmons recommends a romantic getaway to Cap Juluca, a Belmond Hotel on Anguilla. “Cap Juluca’s beach is as pristine as it gets, with its long strip of powder-white sand, crystal clear water, and views of St. Maarten in the distance,” she says. “Plus, you never have to fight for a beach chair or show up super early, since there’s plenty of room and the staff always has an umbrella set up before you’ve even arrived.” When Simmons and her husband weren’t lounging on golden sands, they went paddleboarding, hit the tennis court, enjoyed massages at the spa, and even went on a snorkeling excursion. The highlight was all the quality time the pair spent together: “I loved how private and remote Cap Juluca felt,” says Simmons. “At times it felt like we were on our very own island.”
La Co(o)orniche, Pyla-Sur-Mer
What could be more romantic than waking up to views of Europe’s biggest sand dune? At this Philippe Starck-designed hotel in the seaside resort of Pyla-sur-Mer, couples enjoy panoramic views of Arcachon Bay and the mesmerizing Dune du Pilat from their beachy-chic guestrooms. Most visitors flock to the area to climb the magnificent dune, which rises 374 feet above sea level, but we won’t blame you for lazing on the sandy beach, breathing in the head-clearing scent of the pine forest.
Fernando De Noronha, Brazil
Brazil is spoiled for choice when it comes to beautiful beaches. But you’d be hard-pressed to find a place more blessed with natural beauty than Fernando de Noronho, a volcanic archipelago about 220 miles off the northeast coast of Brazil. Perhaps the dreamiest spot to spend the day with your significant other is Baia do Sancho, on the archipelago’s main island. The protected cove is the picture of earthly paradise, with forest-covered cliffs and azure waters home to colorful fish, dolphins, and sea turtles.
Con Dao Archipelago, Vietnam
Looking for beachside seclusion? Skip Vietnam’s over-trammeled Phu Quoc and head to the isolated Con Dao archipelago instead. The remote islands are perfect for privacy-seekers: 83 percent of the archipelago is protected by the Con Dao National Park. The most luxurious place to lay your head is the Six Senses Con Dao, an eco-resort backed by the Lo Voi Mountains and located on a mile-long private beach. It’s worth peeling yourself away from your seaside villa for a guided hike along the coast to Dam Tre Bay, arguably the archipelago’s most photogenic beach, with forested hills and dramatic granite cliffs.
Tofino, Canada
For couples seeking rugged natural beauty and mist-shrouded coastal landscapes, it’s hard to top Tofino on Vancouver Island. The windswept town has no shortage of beaches primed for romance: Stroll hand in hand along the 10-mile Long Beach, enjoy a picnic with views of Clayoquot Sound at Tonquin Beach, or take a couple’s surf lesson at Cox Bay Beach. And while there are plenty of beautiful Airbnbs available to rent, the oceanfront Wickaninnish Inn—one of Canada’s most legendary hotels—epitomizes bucket-list romance.
Anse Source d’Argent Seychelles
There’s a reason Prince William and Kate Middleton honeymooned in the Seychelles. The Indian Ocean archipelago offers island romance par excellence, with luxurious resorts, off-the-grid adventures, and, of course, stunning beaches, the most famous being the Anse Source d’Argent on La Digue. It really doesn’t get more photogenic than this iconic stretch of sand, known for its shallow waters, imposing granite boulders, and swaying coconut palms. For a less-crowded—but no less picturesque option—hike three hours to Anse Marron, a remote beach on the southern tip of La Digue.

There are few destination spas as singular as this 62-suite hotel, built into an 800-year-old lava field on the southwest side of Iceland’s famous lagoon. It’s an otherworldly place to spend a few days, kicking back in the Scandi-chic guestrooms, soaking in the thermal hot springs, and indulging in a seven-course chef’s tasting menu at the lagoon-level restaurant. You and your partner will feel weightless as you float in the mineral-rich waters, looking out at the surreal moss-fringed landscape. If you’re lucky, the Northern Lights may even dance across the sky.
One&Only Mandarina, Mexico
Author and interior designer Athena Calderone fell head over heels for One&Only Mandarina, a destination resort on Riviera Nayarit’s wild Pacific Coast. “The spa was an absolute dream—the entire experience was luxurious and elegant,” she says, referencing an all-natural Tata Harper facial that left her glowing. She also loved the treehouse accommodations and the resort’s intimate dining options, like the open-air Alma restaurant helmed by French-Mexican chef Olivier Deboise. “The property is the perfect respite for couples,” she says.
Six Senses Fort Barwara, Rajasthan
Give your loved one the royal treatment at this 14th-century fort turned 48-suite hotel. Commanding a hilltop perch above Barwara Lake, the thoughtfully restored complex channels the glamor of a bygone era. Splurge on the Raja Man Singh Pool Suite, which features a pool and garden enclosed within a turret and views of the Chauth ka Barwara Mandir Temple and the Aravali hills. There are daily wellness activities like sunrise yoga and traditional puja ceremonies at sunset. But for the ultimate indulgence, retreat to the 30,000-square-foot spa for stress-relieving shirodhara treatments and cutting-edge biohacking therapies.
Troutbeck, New York
At this sophisticated country manor in New York’s Hudson Valley, it’s all about communing with nature while enjoying luxe amenities (deep-soaking tubs, fireplaces, and Frette linens). Robust wellness programming rounds out the itinerary, with activities like pilates classes in a high-ceilinged barn, private tennis lessons at the food of Oblong Mountain, and cycling adventures along the Harlem Valley Rail Trail. It’s the perfect weekend getaway for active couples—but the 38-room hotel is just as suited for relaxation. Stroll through the formal gardens, sign up for acupuncture treatments or massage, and if the weather’s nice, hang out by the swimming pool under the shade of sycamore trees.

This riverside jungle camp in Bali’s lush Keliki Valley is a favorite destination among honeymooners, but trust us, it’s far too special to only visit once in your lifetime. The setting is truly sublime, with 23 tented rooms spread over a terraced hillside flanked by paddy fields and dense rainforest. At the Auriga Spa, treatments draw on ancient Balinese and Hindu healing traditions and are accompanied by the sounds of the rainforest. Glacier treks and hair-raising hikes in Patagonia, Argentina
End-of-the-world landscapes and out-of-this-world adventures are all part of the experience in Argentinian Patagonia. Thrill-chasers should strap on their ice shoes and trek along the majestic Perito Moreno Glacier, a vast shield of ice whose surface is slightly larger than Buenos Aires, while wildlife lovers can glimpse giant Humpback whales, penguins, and sea lions in Ushuaia, South America’s southernmost city. For the ultimate bonding experience, attempt the 13-mile Laguna de Los Trek hike in El Chalten, which will bring you to the foot of the mighty Mount Fitz Roy.
Wildlife sightings and outdoor adventures in Arenal Volcano National Park Costa Rica
The beauty of Costa Rica’s Arenal Volcano National Park is that you can do as much—or as little—as you want and still have a great time. This is especially true of couples who choose to bed down at the adults-only Nayara Springs, a collection of luxurious private villas with plunge pools, gardens, outdoor showers, and show-stopping views of the Arenal Volcano. Off-property adventures include white-water rafting expeditions down the Sarapiqui River, visits to the 195-foot waterfall in the Arenal Hanging Bridges Park, and a photo tour of the lava fields.

The best way to explore the vast, sun-baked desert of Namibia? By train, of course! On a nine-night safari journey with the ultra-glamorous Rovos Rail, you and your partner will traverse some of the country’s most dramatic landscapes, including the Succulent Karoo desert, the red dunes of the Sossusvlei dry lake, and the Walvis Bay tidal lagoon. You’ll make plenty of stops along the way, so you can fully appreciate the wide-open views and snap photos of the wildlife. To travel in style, splurge on the wood-paneled Royal Suite sleeper coach.
Dude ranch adventures in Utah
Studies show that couples who actively try new things together are less likely to fall into a rut. Well, we don’t know about you, but we can’t think of a better relationship-building exercise than learning the “art of cowboying” at Utah’s Lodge at Blue Sky, Auberge Resorts Collection. Set on a 3,500-acre private working ranch a half-hour from Salt Lake City, the hotel offers a range of equine adventures suited for amateurs and experienced riders alike—instruction in English riding, rides through the flower-covered meadows of the Wasatch Mountains, and even a breathwork session in the stable.
A road trip along Australia’s Great Ocean Road
The open road offers complete spontaneity and freedom of choice—the perfect option for couples who like to leave extra room for scenic detours. For the ultimate road trip itinerary, set your sights on Australia’s Great Ocean Road, a 150-mile stretch that winds around the country’s scenic southern coast. Says Stuart Rigg, owner of Southern Crossings Australia: “The Great Ocean Road offers captivating landscapes, charming seaside towns, fabulous food and wine experiences, and great opportunities to get outdoors with the one you love.” While he notes that the route is best known for its iconic limestone rock formations like the iconic 12 Apostles, he notes that there are plenty of other photo ops and attractions along the way. Among them: towering Californian Redwoods in Otway National Park, the Kennett River Koala Walk, and the highly-award Wickens restaurant at the Royal Mail Hotel.
A cruise down the Nile River
Egypt’s Nile River is so mythical, even Cole Porter crooned about it in his love songs. To cruise it in style, opt for a six-day itinerary with Nour el Nil on a traditional flat-bottomed dahabiya sailboat. As you journey from Esna to Aswan, you and your sweetheart will float past reed-covered banks, the dunes of the Sahara, and ancient monuments like the Gebel El Silsila Temple that other large ships can’t reach.

Napa Valley, California
Trending Stories
Wine tastings, hot-air balloon rides, pilgrimage-worthy dining, chic boutique hotels. No place does romance quite like Napa Valley. And while you could easily spend weeks discovering the region’s wineries and restaurants, there are a few spots that couples shouldn’t miss. At Sullivan Rutherford Estate, enjoy a private Cab Sauv tasting and tour of the sculpted gardens before settling in for a nine-course tasting menu at Thomas Keller’s lauded French Laundry. Or swing by Gott’s Roadside to pick up a milkshake and old-fashioned burger before catching the sunset at Skyline Wilderness Park. The recently reborn Poetry Inn is probably the region’s most swoon-worthy stay, with just five rooms boasting vineyard views, sweeping private terraces, and soaking tubs.
The Lake District, England
The English Lake District has long attracted outdoor enthusiasts who come to scale the U.K.’s highest peaks But in recent decades, the verdant region in northwest England has emerged as a gastronomic hotspot. It all started in 2002 when British chef Simon Rogan—one of the pioneers of the farm-to-table movement—opened his now-famous L’Enclume in the quaint village of Cartmel. The three-starred Michelin restaurant is known for putting inventive spins on classic dishes using organic produce from Rogan’s 12-acre farm. Since then, plenty of other high-end restaurants have set up shop, like the acclaimed British-Asian Blackbull in Sedbergh and the Old Stamp House in Ambleside. Now the region has become somewhat of a food pilgrimage, popular among couples craving haute cuisine and gastronomic-centered hotels like Linthwaite House and Our Rooms by L’Enclume.
Emilia Romagna, Italy
Every corner of Italy has something to offer from a culinary perspective. But only the northern Italian region of Emilia-Romagna can lay claim to 44 DOP food products including Parmigiano Reggiano, tortellini, and ragù bolognese. Begin your eatathon in the region’s capital, Bologna. With only one Michelin-starred restaurant in the entire city (yes, really), couples will have to do their own research, strolling the city’s grand porticos in search of the best osteria and trattorias. From Bologna, the options are limitless: visit family-run vinegar producers in Modena; try Culatello, the most prestigious of all cured meats, in Parma; and develop a taste for Lambrusco in Reggio Emilia. And for a no-expenses-spared date night out, there’s only one place to know about: Massimo Bottura’s renowned Osteria Francescana in Modena.
Singapore
As a melting pot of Chinese, Malay, and Indian cultures, Singapore is one of the world’s great food cities—and a real feast for travelers hungry for food and culture. And sure, there are temples of fine dining galore (we’re looking at you, Odette), but some of the city’s best bites come from unassuming local vendors at the city’s legendary hawker centers. At the Chinatown Complex Food Centre, sample everything from fragrant laksa soup and Chinese steamed buns to piping-hot clay pot rice. For date night, make reservations at the renowned Atlas Bar, a vaulted space with Art Deco flair and the world’s largest gin collection. Even the city’s Jewel Changi Airport is a culinary wonderland with 100+ eateries, allowing couples to make the most of their every meal in the food-obsessed city.

For a vacation memory that’ll age like fine wine, splurge on the tasting menu at Chefs Warehouse at Beau Constantia.

Paris
It’s no secret that the French capital is a cultural powerhouse. But it’s not always easy to escape the crowds and enjoy the cultural treasures for yourself—or is it? According to the uber-stylish Parisian hoteliers Anouk and Louis Solanet of Orso hotel group, there are plenty of lesser-known gems even in popular neighborhoods like Montmartre (you just need to know where to look). One of the couple’s favorite spots is the Musée de la vie Romantique, a literary museum situated at the base of Montmartre and set within the former house of Dutch painter Ary Scheffer. “We love to sit in silence in the hidden garden, which smells of roses and lilacs,” says Anouk. Afterwards, they recommend grabbing a drink at Hotel Rochechouart’s rooftop, which offers dead-on views of the Sacré Coeur. On the Left Bank, the couple loves strolling through the Jardin du Luxembourg and on to Rue Notre-Dame-des-Champs, one of the streets that inspired Woody Allen’s Midnight in Paris, and finally to the Giacometti Foundation—“A jewel of Parisian museum,” says Louis—which is dedicated to the life and work of the famous Swiss sculptor Alberto Giacometti.

Lausanne, Switzerland
Switzerland’s fourth-largest city is straight out of a fairytale, with a medieval Old Town and vertiginous streets that rise above the shimmering waters of Lake Geneva. It’s also one of the country’s most underrated arts hubs, thanks to the recent opening of Platforme 10, a striking new art district home to three of the city’s major art museums. For couples who prefer to see art en plein air, go on a cultural scavenger hunt to locate 82 works scattered throughout the hillside city (don’t miss Clelia Bettua’s sculptural weather vane at the Port of Ouchy). To cap off a perfect day, catch a show at the newly modernized Théâre de Vidy before retiring at the Hôtel Royal Savoy Lausanne, a grand castle-like property that wouldn’t be out of place in a Wes Anderson flick. The hotel has a sublime spa, a rooftop terrace overlooking the lake, and an unbeatable location near all the top cultural spots.
Buenos Aires
Is there a city sexier than Buenos Aires? There’s something sultry about Argentina’s capital, from its dimly-lit tango bars and balmy weather to its heady mix of South American and European influences. After catching a tango performance at the city’s best-known milonga, La Catedral, continue your cultural immersion at the Teatro Colon—one of the world’s most beautiful opera houses—where Igor Stravinsky has performed, Rudolph Nureyev has danced, and Maria Callas has sung. From there, it’s a short walk to El Ateneo Grand Splendid, a bookstore occupying a former theater and featuring century-old ceiling frescos. But to really feel the spirit of the city, couples should spend an afternoon in the colorful La Boca neighborhood, where there are vibrant murals, live music, and views of the Riachuelo River.
Venice, Italy
“Venice is pure magic,” says Amina Dearmon of Perspectives Travel. “I love being able to wander the streets, stop at an osteria for an Aperol Spritz, and watch the sunset from the Accademia Bridge.” Like so many Italian cities, Venice is like an open-air museum, brimming with art and culture at every turn. Its narrow streets and atmospheric squares are packed with heavy-hitting institutions, too, like the Peggy Guggenheim Collection, the Doge’s Palace, and the Palazzo Ca’ Pesaro. First-time visitors shouldn’t miss a side trip to Murano, the second-largest island in the Venetian lagoon, to learn about its long tradition of glassmaking at the Venice Glass Museum.
Kyoto
The former imperial capital of Japan is home to more than a dozen UNESCO World Heritage Sites and some 2,000 Buddhist temples and Shinto shrines. In any other city, the sheer volume of culture would be head-spinning. But in Kyoto, it’s a pleasure to stroll around the peaceful temple gardens, traditional teahouses, and ancient storefronts, feeling transported to an earlier time. Top landmarks include the famous orange torii gates at the Fushimi Inari shrine, the celebrated Kiyomizu Temple, and the impressive Nijo Castle. If the budget allows, spend the night at the new Aman Kyoto, a sanctuary-like retreat set on 80 acres of hilly woodland in the north of the city, a stone’s throw from the golden Kinkaku-ji Temple.

Summer has finally arrived, and many of us are going on a long-awaited vacation. For everyone who is now more acute than ever with the question “where to relax?”, We have prepared an overview of the best places to relax in Russia.
Crimea
This ancient peninsula attracts a large number of tourists at any time of the year. Still – after all, there is not only the sea! Crimea boasts a large number of historical sights, architectural monuments and simply beautiful places created by nature itself. nine0003
When to go
If you are planning an independent vacation with a tent, we recommend that you go to the Crimea in August. This month pleases vacationers with the most comfortable water temperature and minimal rainfall. However, please note that this is the “high season”, which means that the prices for accommodation are quite high and the number of tourists rolls over. Therefore, if peace is important to you, then it is better to prepare in advance and choose a secluded place to relax.
For those who prefer a rich excursion program, and not just a beach holiday, the best option would be a trip to the Crimea in September. At this time, the tourist flow subsides, and you will fully enjoy the architectural monuments of antiquity, palaces and other attractions of the peninsula. By the way, in this case, you should not neglect the opportunity to choose an organized tour to the Crimea – at a bargain price you can choose excellent accommodation and create an interesting cultural program with a specialist. For those who are looking for a budget option, we recommend that you consider a tour to the Crimea by bus from St. Petersburg. nine0003
You should also use the services of a tour operator if you plan to travel to the Crimea during the high season. In July, there is a high probability that you simply will not be able to find a free hotel room.
What to see
Going to the Crimea, every traveler knows for sure that it is necessary first of all to visit the Swallow’s Nest, the Bakhchisarai Fountain, the Yusupov Palace and the Massandra Palace. But we would like to recommend that you read a series of articles about Crimea in our e-zine:
“A peninsula to which one cannot remain indifferent”
Journey through the mountainous Crimea
Journey through the ancient Crimea
Journey through the romantic Crimea

We hope that you will find inspiration for your trip here!
Karelia
Vacation in Karelia is a great option for a family vacation, as well as for those who want to spend a busy weekend in nature. First of all, people come here for natural beauty, fresh air, fishing and other activities. However, there are also interesting cultural sites that are definitely worth a visit. nine0003
When to go
The best time to go to Karelia is in summer. Of course, winter holidays in this republic have their charms, but the hot Karelian sun is still more attractive for a full-fledged vacation. Please note that May-June is the tick season in Karelia, so if you are planning a trip during these months, be sure to bring protective equipment and suitable clothing. The end of June – the beginning of July is perhaps the best period for a vacation in Karelia. You can admire the white nights, swim for your own pleasure and enjoy other summer entertainments. nine0003
What to see
For those who are just starting to get acquainted with Karelia, this is Ruskeala Marble Canyon, the architecture of the city of Sortavala, Ladoga skerries, numerous waterfalls, Valaam Island. If you are going to Karelia not for the first time, then you should get to Kizhi Island, which is located on Lake Onega. Here you can admire the most beautiful ensemble of the Kizhi Pogost, an architectural monument of wooden architecture. We also advise experienced travelers to pay attention to the national parks located on the territory of the republic, where you can admire the beautiful Karelian landscapes and take a break from civilization. nine0003
Rest in Karelia is wonderful because even for a small number of days spent here, you seem to completely restore your strength and fill yourself with amazing energy – it’s not for nothing that they say that there are many places of power in Karelia, where in ancient times shamans communicated with the world of the gods and spirits.
Krasnodar Territory
A trip to the Krasnodar Territory is a great option for a family holiday. Sochi, Anapa, Tuapse, Krasnodar, Adler, Gelendzhik – these resort towns are attractive for their beaches, climate and plenty of entertainment for children and adults. Health tourism is also widely developed here. All year round sanatoriums and dispensaries are ready to receive those who decide to improve their health or simply recuperate. nine0003
When to go
Due to its size and geographical location, the Krasnodar Territory is divided into three climatic zones – humid subtropics from Tuapse to Adler, dry “Mediterranean” along the coast from Tuapse to Anapa, as well as temperate continental climate throughout the rest of the territory, including the Sea of \u200b\u200bAzov. Summer here is long and consistently hot, so you can go in any month, based on your preferences. But, in fact, you can safely go to the Krasnodar Territory in winter, because this region is famous for its ski resorts. Therefore, if you are planning an unusually long New Year’s weekend, pay attention to this option. nine0003
What to see
In addition to the attractions from the guidebook, we recommend that you definitely visit the amazing Sochi Park, which is also called the Russian Disneyland. This place is really amazing and will appeal not only to children, but also to adults.
Pay attention to the largest oceanarium in Russia. It is located in Adler. If you are going to Gelendzhik, then you should visit the Golden Bay water park. The water park is open only in the summer – do not miss this moment when planning a trip. nine0003
There is also a Safari Park in Gelendzhik. In the Safari Park, animals are certainly the main ones, but still this is not a zoo, but a center for leisure and recreation. On the territory of the park there is a cable car leading to the top of the Markotkhsky ridge, the exhibition complex “From the depths of centuries and waters”, the first artificial cave in Russia.
Kaliningrad
The westernmost city of our country deserves to be visited at least once. But to spend a summer vacation here is really wonderful. See the Maritime Museum, wander through the typical European streets, visit the Curonian Spit… This is just a small part of what you can do while traveling to Kaliningrad. nine0003
When to go
The climate in Kaliningrad is mild and comfortable – at any time of the year your trip will not be overshadowed by bad weather conditions. However, there are some nuances that are associated with the goals of your holiday.
If you are planning a sightseeing holiday, it is best to go in spring or autumn. There are few tourists at this time of the year, and hotel prices are much lower. If you want to definitely swim in the sea, then focus on June-July. But in August, the temperature of air and water begins to gradually decrease. For those who plan to visit the Curonian Spit, it is important to remember that the best time to visit is from May to October. nine0003
What to see
Any sightseeing tour to Kaliningrad will surprise even the most sophisticated tourist with a large number of attractions and architectural monuments. The Museum of the World Ocean, the Amber Museum, the Art Gallery, the Cathedral, the Church of the Holy Family – you can list them for a very long time.
It is worth paying attention to other cities of the Kaliningrad region. In Sovetsk (Tilsit) you can see the ruins of the Tilsit castle, the bridge of Queen Louise, the house of Müller-Stahl and Frank’s villa. In Chernyakhovsk, the Insterburg Castle, the Catholic Church of St. Bruno, several settlements, and the Bismarck Tower have been preserved. In the village of Yantarny you will see the museum complex “Amber Castle”. The famous Tapiau Castle, whose construction dates back to the 14th century, has been preserved in Gvardeysk. nine0003
Baikal
Lake Baikal is a reserve of planetary significance. It contains the largest supply of fresh water – not just pure and transparent, but also practically distilled. And despite the fact that a trip to Lake Baikal is not easy to implement, it is worth the effort and financial investment.
When to go
If your goal is a summer vacation with swimming, fishing and other summer joys, then go to Baikal from the beginning of July to the end of August. In June, in the middle part of Lake Baikal it is still quite cold at night, and the water even in shallow bays does not have time to warm up. In the northern part of the lake, floating ice floes can still be observed in June. nine0003
Baikal is very interesting in spring from mid-March to mid-April, when frost subsides and travel on the Baikal ice becomes less extreme, and in autumn – from mid-September to mid-October, when the crowds of tourists disappear from the shores, and the vegetation on the shores acquires a bright autumn coloring. The shores of Lake Baikal at this time are simply a paradise for photographers and lovers of being alone with nature.
What to see
Of course, first of all, this is Lake Baikal and its natural beauties. But what else is worth visiting for a tourist who decides on such a trip? nine0033 Baidinskiye caves, which can be reached from Olkhon Island. There are several grottoes and halls in the caves that can be visited without special equipment.
Dream Cave with huge stalactites and stalagmites is the most famous and beautiful cave of Baikal. It is located 7 km from the village of Sakhyurta in the Tazheran steppes. It contains the Throne and Music Halls, where ice formations can make melodic sounds.
Ivolginsky datsan – the residence of the head of the Buddhists of Russia and one of the main Buddhist centers in Siberia and the Far East. The temple complex is located in the foothills of Khamar-Daban at 29km from Ulan-Ude.
Mount Barkhan-Uula is one of the 5 main Buryat shrines of Baikal, the place where, according to Buryat mythology, the owner of the Barguzin valley lives. Every year, those who have received the permission of the lama in the Kurumkan datsan make pilgrimage climbs to it. Barkhan-Uula won first place in the republican competition “7 Wonders of Nature of Buryatia”.
Discover Russia, which is still unexplored territory for many tourists. But the beauty of our country is truly unique and worthy of admiration. Travel and tell about your travels, and we wish you a great vacation and vivid impressions! nine0003
Best places to stay in Russia
“Top best places to stay in Russia” is a very popular request, which is supported by questions on the same subject – they often come to our editorial office. The topic is voluminous, so the TVIL.RU vacation rental service will tell you where the best places to stay in Russia are. Crimea, Krasnodar Territory, North Caucasus, Altai, Leningrad Region, Lake Baikal, Kaliningrad Region, Tatarstan and the cities of the Golden Ring – for those who are looking for white sand, diving with a mask, surfing the waves, climbing mountains, going on excursions by cities. nine0003
The best vacation spots in Russia
Crimea
Crimea is one of the best vacation spots in Russia.
The peninsula is well suited for a beach holiday. Crimean beaches are not only sandy and pebbly, but also rocky. The latter are perhaps the most inconvenient, but this does not prevent many tourists from relaxing there. It is the beaches covered with white sand and the warm sea that attract so many tourists – in the resorts of the Krasnodar Territory, this, unfortunately, cannot be found, although there is only one sea. For sandy beaches, you need to go to the following locations:
Evpatoria,
Storm,
Novofedorovka,
Dairy,
Cozy,
Coastal,
Sevastopol,
Kachu,
Uchkuevka,
Sandy,
Feodosia,
- nine0138 Kerch.
Surely, there are tourists who like to relax on pebble beaches. We recommend them to rest on the southern coast of Crimea. These are narrow strips of the coast, which are covered with pebbles of various sizes. The best pebble beaches are located in the following locations:
- Yalta,
- Gurzuf,
- Alushta,
- Rybachy,
- Malorechensky,
- Simeize,
- Partenite.
If you like snorkeling, diving and admiring the underwater world, then you need to go to the rocky beaches of Crimea. Suitable for this place:
- Cape Tarkhankut,
- Chernomorskoe,
- Olenevka,
- Foros,
- Alupka,
- Laspi.
The Crimean peninsula is a great place not only for relaxing there in the summer, by the sea. Interesting sights, such as cave cities, unusual mountains, which you will not see anywhere else in Russia, attract thousands of tourists. Including those who are interested in one-day trips, trekking, rock climbing. Near Alushta, for example, there is the medieval Funa fortress, the famous Dzhur-Dzhur waterfall, the “Ghost Valley”. nine0003
The nature of the Crimea is unusual and different from the prevailing in Russia. The first thing you notice is rocky hills overgrown with rare herbs. There are many trees in the gorges, because there is more moisture and land that is suitable for plants. The forests are not dense, like in the Caucasus, they are well blown. All this, as well as the unusual view of the mountains, which seem to have just risen from the bottom of the sea, make the journey through Crimea unique.
The second most popular type of outdoor activity is jeeping and excursions that are conducted in this way. Surfing, windsurfing are also popular in Crimea, most of all spots near Sevastopol are yacht trips, diving, horseback riding, bike rides. In addition, there are several ski slopes near Yalta – Kichkine, Kilometer 26, Kilometer 27. nine0003
Krasnodar Territory
Krasnodar Territory cannot be left out of our list of “The Best Places to Vacation in Russia”, because all the rest in the south still revolves around these resorts.
The best places in the region for a beach holiday on the Black Sea coast of Russia:
Gelendzhik,
Anapa,
Sochi,
Nebug,
Lazarevskoe,
Yeysk.
You can relax in the region and on the coast of the Sea of Azov. Most popular places:
Kuchugury,
village Golubitskaya,
Dolzhanskaya.
Despite a significant segment of beach recreation, outdoor activities are very popular in the region, and this is facilitated, first of all, by the proximity to the Caucasus Range. The most popular type of recreation is hiking. Fans of one-day and multi-day trips with accommodation in tents are popular with natural attractions located in Goryachiy Klyuch, the Guam Gorge, in the Bolshoy Tkhach Reserve, in the Caucasian Biosphere Reserve, on the Lagonaki Highlands. In these places, in addition to nature reserves, trips with a stop for several days in recreation centers are also popular. Of the remarkable places, let’s name Mezmay, where there is incredible nature – just remember the observation platforms “Pyramid” and “Eagle Shelf” – good infrastructure with grocery stores, comfortable recreation centers and acceptable roads. nine0003
Fans of classical and free rock climbing will find places for this extreme entertainment in the Krasnye and Planchesky rocks of the Seversky district, Eagle rocks near Sochi, where, according to legend, Prometheus was chained. For extreme lovers we also recommend the foothills of Turkey, Turkey, Two Brothers, the slopes of Fisht, Oshten, Pshekha-Su and, of course, Elbrus.
People in the Krasnodar Territory love skiing and boarding. The Lago-Naki ski resorts, ski slopes on Mount Lysaya, and snow-covered slopes in Mezmay contribute to the popularity of such recreation. It is impossible not to mention both Krasnaya Polyana and Rosa Khutor, next to Sochi. nine0003
North Caucasus
If for some reason you are not satisfied with the ski resorts of the Krasnodar Territory, you can always go to neighboring republics in Russia – Kabardino-Balkaria, Karachay-Cherkessia, North Ossetia, Chechnya and Ingushetia.
Skiers and snowboarders go there to visit places such as Cheget, Elbrus, ride the slopes in Dombai, Arkhyz, Tsey, the Veduchi ski resort in Chechnya and Armkhi in Ingushetia.
In North Caucasus due to the fact that there are quite a lot of large and located at a decent distance from each other attractions, day trips by car are popular. Only, unlike similar ones in the Moscow region and the central part of Russia, where they usually travel from city to city, in the North Caucasus they travel from one interesting place to another. And there are plenty of them in this region: the Bermamyt plateau, the dead city in Dargavs, tower complexes in Vovnushki, Egikal, Tergim, the Khadzhokh gorge, the melting caves of the Alibek glacier, the Sulak canyon, the Saltinsky waterfall. Rock climbers in the republics of the North Caucasus also have a place to turn around. nine0003
In Kabardino-Balkaria try to conquer Adyl-Su, Bezengi, Adyr-Su, unusual for its relief, which is especially loved by boulderers. The boulders of Lechinkaya are not mountains, but among the tourists in Russia there are many lovers of bouldering – climbing huge stones without insurance. To engage in this extreme activity, you do not need equipment, it is enough to have dense tourist rugs. The load on the fingers, feet and other muscle groups during bouldering is somewhat different, which, with a low entry threshold, has made this type of extreme recreation very popular in Russia. nine0003
In Karachay-Cherkessia tourists go to climb the rocks to the Uzunkola granite trails.
In Stavropol Territory they are attracted by Mount Ostraya, Saltpeter rocks, delightful, like a scenery for a movie, Berezovsky Gorge. In Kislovodsk, where there are a lot of climbing routes, the weather has to conquer almost all year round. Only in July and August, when the heat becomes unbearable, there is a break.
It is impossible not to mention the medical and sanatorium rest – the main specialization of the North Caucasus. The center of such a holiday in Russia is the Caucasian Mineralnye Vody. There are over a hundred springs with mineral water, and the healing mud of Lake Tambukan is of great value. nine0003
The Caucasian Mineralnye Vody has a mild climate, an important role in which is played by the fact that air flows descending from the mountains and steppe winds mix, equalize each other, create balance. Another advantage of this resort in Russia is that each balneological resort has its own specialization. In Zheleznovodsk there are springs from which hot calcium water comes. The mineral composition of water from springs in Pyatigorsk is diverse, it is used to treat the musculoskeletal system and gynecological diseases. Kislovodsk is a Russian resort specializing in cardiological diseases. nine0003

Gorny Altai
Gorny Altai is primarily a hiking holiday. Due to the harsh climate in the republic, rare Russian tourists go to the Golden Mountains with tents.
The most popular option is to stay at a recreation center, which grows every year, and from there make day trips and trips. The nature of the Altai Mountains is incredible, and we at TVIL.RU really look forward to when the service and infrastructure in recreation centers become acceptable everywhere due to the growth in the flow of tourists. The fact is that you will not find such mountains, coupled with incredible steppes anywhere else on the planet, they are really unique. This also applies to local attractions in Russia, for example Mars-1 and Mars-2 near Kyzyl-Chin. nine0141
In the Altai Mountains, one can find everywhere a landscape layout so beloved all over the world, which, for example, that part of the Caucasus Range, which is located in Russia, cannot boast of: majestic snow-capped mountains, whose slopes look like fjords, and cozy valleys overgrown with alpine meadows and in some places on the slopes with rare coniferous forests. The further south you go, the more often you encounter steppes. Moreover, in Altai they are as if only the edge of the world is farther away. There is a special atmosphere, many tourists write in their reviews that you feel like you are on a planet uninhabited by people. nine0003
The Katun River is the same pride of the republic as the Golden Mountains. It is violent, with numerous rapids and rifts. Therefore, such an extreme form of recreation as rafting is very popular. Every year, holidays dedicated to him are held in the republic: “Ak-Talay-Margaan – the challenge of white water”, “Chuya-Rally”, the competition “King of Asia”.
Paragliding, cave diving, mountain biking, rock climbing are gaining popularity. You can ski and board on the Seminsky Pass, in Belokurikha. nine0003
There are prospects for the development of therapeutic recreation in Altai. These are hot springs, and more than anywhere else in the republic, they are represented in Belokurikha. This is a balneological resort in Russia, on the territory of which there are 28 sanatoriums. In Belokurikha, endocrine, nervous, genitourinary, bone, muscular, and immune systems are treated. There are also ski slopes, which we wrote about above.
Dzhumalinsky springs could be added to extreme recreation, because in comparison with the balneological resort in Belokurikha, they look, to put it mildly, ascetic. They are in the Ukok rest zone. Water from hot springs flows through pipes into 3 stone fonts. Nearby there are a couple of houses for caretakers and several houses with bunks and potbelly stoves for tourists. For bourgeois women, tourists bring firewood, because there is simply no firewood on the spot – around the tundra, frozen by the winds, at the foot of the mountains. Tourists sleep in sleeping bags. Often there are situations when all the houses are already occupied. Then tourists spend the night in tents. We understand that you have a reasonable question: “Why do people go there?”. The water from Dzhumalinsky springs contains radon. They follow him to cure diseases of the nervous system, heart and other organs. nine0003
In Karelia, the most popular form of recreation is sightseeing. The most popular places are historical and architectural complexes in Kizhi and Valaam. Another interesting place is Ruskeala, where tourists come in large numbers.
Popular activities include rafting, mountain biking and hiking in the Karelian forests and mountains. The mountains in Karelia look interesting, you definitely haven’t seen them anywhere in Russia. There are many lakes in the region, so tourists spend a lot of time boating and fishing. nine0003
Leningrad region
In the Leningrad region you can relax in different ways, there are a large number of historical sights, natural objects. Therefore, the dominant type of recreation in the Leningrad region is excursion. Suffice it to recall what a dimensionless flow of tourists tends to Peterhof, Oranienbaum, Gatchina, royal and noble estates.
There are many lakes and rivers with sandy beaches in the region, so Petersburgers actively sunbathe and swim on them in the summer: on the beach in Sosnovy Bor, on the shore of the Kurgalsky Peninsula, on the beach near Bolshaya Izhora, on the shores of Lake Ladoga and Onega. Naturally, a quiet holiday is also popular – on the shore with a fishing rod. nine0003
In winter, starting from December, you can have fun and relax, not only walking around St. Petersburg. You can go boarding and skiing in the Leningrad Region at the ski resorts Igora, Zolotaya Dolina, Tuutari Park, Red Lake, Pukhtolova Gora, Azure Lakes.
Baikal (Irkutsk region and Buryatia)
Since it is now allowed to catch omul, wealthy tourists-fishermen go to Baikal just for it. They say that the most delicious omul is the one that is just caught and immediately cooked. nine0003
The fauna of Baikal attracts not only with different types of fish. Seals are endemic to the lake and are considered a symbol of Irkutsk. Animals can be seen resting on the shore and islands, or you can visit the nerpinarium, which is based in Listvyanka.
A tourist gets acquainted with Baikal through excursions, and Buryatia can show him a lot. After a mandatory trip to Olkhon and a trip on the Circum-Baikal Railway, visit the Ivolginsky Datsan, an important Russian Buddhist temple, which houses the body of Lama Itigelov. Take a look at the ethnocomplex “Nomad”, where you can live in a yurt, and visit Buryat shamans. nine0003
Kaliningrad region
Despite the fact that the Kaliningrad region is a northern land, tourists come there to relax on the beaches and plunge into the Baltic Sea when it is too hot in the Crimea and in the resorts of the Krasnodar Territory in summer. The most popular destinations are on the Curonian Spit, where there are sandy glades, unusual for Russia, between the dunes. Zelenogradsk has several sandy beaches, the beaches of the Yantarny village, in which the amber mining plant is located, as well as beaches in Pionersky, Svetlogorsk, Donskoy, Baltiysk, are also in demand. nine0003
The second most popular way to relax in the Kaliningrad region is to visit with excursions and independently old buildings made in the neo-Gothic style, which remained from Prussia. Of those that we recommend for a mandatory visit, the Königsberg Cathedral, the King’s Gate, the Juditten Church, which began to be built back in 1288 by the knights of the Teutonic Order, the hospital of St. George, the Tipolt Orphanage. The island of Kant, where the grave of the great philosopher is located, also deserves attention. Also visit the Friedland Gate – one of the last buildings that the Teutonic Order built in 1862, the Rosenau Church, which houses the Church of the Intercession of the Most Holy Theotokos, the House of the Superintendent of the High Bridge on the Pregol River, the Brandenburg Gate – look at them not only from the outside, look inside, now there is a museum of marzipan. nine0003
If you like walking alone or with friends, without hard timing, go to Zelenogradsk. This cozy town with rare vertical buildings. Due to the fact that the buildings are mostly 1-, 2- and 3-story, it looks like a holiday village. And historical buildings in Art Nouveau and Neo-Gothic styles give it charm and gloss.
Zelenogradsk has its own unobtrusive, mischievous atmosphere. When you find yourself in it for the first time, it seems as if the action of some novels by Daria Dontsova and children’s detectives by Anna Ustinova takes place here. It will be enough for you to see traffic lights with images not of people, but of cats, in order to understand what we are talking about. By the way, Zelenogradsk has a special relationship with cats. There are many small sculptures and statues depicting these animals in the city, graffiti, mosaic panels on footpaths. Zelenogradsk makes full use of people’s love for cats to attract tourists. nine0003
If you like the intimacy and unhurriedness of Zelenogradsk, go to Svetlogorsk – you won’t regret it. This town is located 30 kilometers from Kaliningrad and is ideal for leisurely independent walks. The feature of Svetlogorsk is that it is built up with mansions with half-timbered features typical of the German architectural tradition. It is pleasant to walk along it in spring and autumn, when the flow of tourists decreases. And we also like how in the Kaliningrad region they mark the trees that grow along the roads with white stripes and reflective yellow tapes – it’s so German. nine0003

The Golden Ring is in the top of the best vacation spots in Russia
The Golden Ring of Russia is an ancient Russian city with a large number of historical and architectural sights. Therefore, sightseeing holidays flourish there. As part of tours, travelers visit
- Sergiev Posad,
- Pereslavl-Zalessky,
- Rostov Veliky,
- Yaroslavl,
- Kostroma,
- Ivanovo,
- Suzdal,
- Vladimir.
First of all, we advise you to visit the numerous churches and cathedrals. For example, in Vladimir, in the Dmitrovsky and Assumption Cathedrals, be sure to admire the frescoes of Andrei Rublev. And tourists also tend to these cities to see how merchants lived in Rus’ in the old days – merchant houses have been preserved in the cities, museums are open in many.
As part of an independent trip, tourists tend to the cities of the Golden Ring in order to temporarily plunge into the unhurried atmosphere of small towns, for example, Plyos. There is not such an intense rhythm of life, people are not in a hurry. You begin to perceive time differently. nine0003
Tatarstan
Tatarstan is a region of Russia rich in historical, architectural and cultural monuments. Therefore, the most popular vacation is sightseeing. In Kazan, tourists like to visit the Kazan Kremlin, the Annunciation Cathedral, the Kazan family center, the Millennium Park, the Kul-Sharif mosque, the Syuyumbike tower, the Palace of Farmers, which is incredible in its external design, and others.
In the vicinity of Kazan and further in the republic, the island-town of Sviyazhsk attracts the most attention, on which there are many historical buildings, primarily churches, the Raifa Bogoroditsky Monastery, and Bolgar. The latter is worth mentioning separately. In addition to the fact that there are ancient mosques and churches – witnesses of historical events, there is the incredible beauty of the White Mosque, which everyone compares with the Taj Mahal. nine0003
You can ski and board, relax in Tatarstan at the Kazan ski resort, which is located near the village of Savino, in the Fedotovo complex, in Kukmor. In addition to them, there are also ski resorts “Jan”, “Baltasi”, “Derbyshi” of a very high quality, if assessed by country.
