Salinas-Monterey Overview

Located in the central coast region of California, Monterey county encompasses the fertile, agriculturally important Salinas Valley. The valley, framed by mountain ranges on the east and west, runs the length of the county and is the site of most of the agricultural activities in the county. The north end of the Salinas Valley opens to the Pacific Ocean, source of the marine influence that cools the valley and makes possible the wide range of crops found here. With a total value of over $1.9 billion, Monterey county is the fourth highest agricultural producing county in California. The total land devoted to agriculture is approximately 1.4 million acres, and irrigated land is around 220,000 acres.

Monterey county agriculture is notable for its broad diversity of crops, many of which are grown year-round. Approximately 50 commodities in the county have a gross value of more than $1 million each. In addition, dozens of other products that gross less than this amount are important agricultural commodities of the country’s. The highest percentage of acres is devoted to cool-season vegetables, such as artichoke, broccoli, cauliflower, celery, Asian vegetables, lettuce, and spinach. In the county’s southern half, farmers grow warm-season vegetables, including carrot, pepper, potato, and tomato. Finally, Monterey county is home to a sizable wine grape industry and approximately one-third of the state’s annual strawberry yield.

Back

Las Salinas is a real Dominican outback, located in the southwest of the country. The place is a peninsula with a unique beach strip consisting of black sand, dunes and the bay of Las Calderas, in which the Dominican naval base is located. Salinas is rarely visited by organized tourist groups, although it is believed that it is here that two of the most beautiful beaches in the southern region of the country are located.

There are various stories and legends about this beautiful and mysterious place, for example, they say that mermaids have been seen here more than once.

The way to Las Salinas lies through the capital of the Dominican Republic – Santo Domingo.

Between the town and the beach of Salinas, there is another important tourist attraction in this part of the island – the salt mines, the area where sea salt is produced. This is a shallow bay with sea water, divided into many mini-pools in which the evaporation process takes place. The water here has an original, fabulously pink hue. Here you can collect some salt crystals as a keepsake.

Then you will pass through the town of Bani, known as the capital of the mango, to the next point of the journey – Las Dunas, a desert with unusual dark sand. The dunes are located on the peninsula of Las Calderas, occupying most of it. The desert area extends for a distance of 15 km from east to west, and 3 km from north to south. Here you can admire the desert and the Caribbean Sea from the observation tower, as well as walk to the picturesque dunes and go to the black sand beach.

Then you will go by boat to the coast in the Caribbean where you will see pink flamingos in their natural habitat and you will be able to take an incredible amount of colorful pictures of these beautiful tiles!

nine0004

The next stop will be a visit to the “wild” beach of such an unusual peninsula, which is a kind of natural pool in the Caribbean.

After a delicious traditional Dominican lunch and drinks, we will head back.

On the way back you will visit the Dominican capital, where the first city of the New World will appear in the evening light of lights.
