Zip code usa: New York ZIP Codes List, Map, and Demographics

Most expensive ZIP codes in the U.S.

For the third straight year, Atherton, California, is the most expensive ZIP code in the U.S. to own a home.

Homes in the exclusive Bay Area town sold for a median price of $9 million in 2022, increasing 0.56% from 2021, according to an analysis by online realtor RealtyHop. The first-place ranking goes back three years to when the annual rankings were first tracked.

Near Stanford University, and home of tech executives and venture capitalists, Atherton has resisted development of multifamily properties, which has kept homes large and exclusive.

In second place is Sagaponack, New York, an enclave of a few hundred residents in the Hamptons, followed by the posh Bel Air neighborhood in Los Angeles. Third place is perhaps the most famous ZIP code in the U.S.: 90210 — namesake of the ’90s teen melodrama “Beverly Hills, 90210.”

Below are the 10 most expensive ZIP codes in the country, ranked by median home sale prices:

1.

Atherton, California (94027)

Median home sale price in 2022: $9,000,000

2. Sagaponack, New York (11962)

3. Beverly Hills, California (90210)

4. Boston (02199)

5. Fisher Island, Florida (33109)

6. Water Mill, New York (11976)

7. Montecito, California (93108)

Median home sale price in 2022: $4,995,000

8. Ross, California (94957)

Median home sale price in 2022: $4,699,500

9. Newport Beach, California (92662)

Median home sale price in 2022: $4,674,750

10. Bridgehampton, New York (11932)

Median home sale price in 2022: $4,395,000

New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco are some of the richest cities in the world, so it’s not surprising that ZIP codes in or near these cities dominate the rankings.

The median home price for the 100 most expensive ZIP codes was $2,749,500 in 2022, an increase of 11.03% from last year, the study says.

To compile the rankings, RealtyHop looked at prices for all types of homes in all ZIP codes in the country, between Jan. 1, 2022, and Oct. 19, 2022. Listings with invalid ZIP codes, including single-building ZIP codes, were excluded.

What is a Zip Code?

ZIP code is a postal code system used in the United States of America by its Postal system known as the UPPS. ZIP basically means Zone Improvement Plan. The concept of ZIP code was introduced to ensure that all the mails get delivered quickly and efficiently. ZIP code primarily consists of a five digit number like 55416. These five numbers are extended after putting a hyphen by 4 numbers, which is also called as ZIP +4. For example 55416-4214.

The first digit of the ZIP code corresponds to the specific group of US states it belongs to. The second and the third digit correspond to a specific region of the group state it belongs to. Fourth and the fifth digit correspond to the delivery address group pertaining to that specific region.

As a result of trades on August 11, the main US stock indices S&P 500, Dow Jones and NASDAQ simultaneously reached historical maximums. The last time something like this happened was 1999

Three major US stock indices at once – S&P 500, Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) and NASDAQ – closed on August 11, 2016 at a historical maximum, which has not happened for more than a decade and a half. According to Dow Jones, the last time this happened was on December 31, 1999.

The value of the S&P 500 stock index in the course of trading rose to 2188.45 points, which is the highest opening in the history of the index, the publication of which began on March 1957 years from 44.06 points. Trading closed at 2185.79 points (+0.47% to the previous close), which also became a record.

When calculating the S&P 500 index, which is often called the “barometer of the American economy”, the stock quotes of the 500 largest public and most significant US companies traded on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) and NASDAQ and representing various sectors of the country’s economy are taken into account.

The DJIA index (calculated based on stock quotes of the 30 largest US companies traded on the NYSE and NASDAQ) grew by 0.64% by the end of the day – trading closed at a record high of 18613.52 points. The high-tech NASDAQ index rose by 0.46% over the day (to 5228.4 points), also setting a new record.

The growth of stock indices occurred against the backdrop of rising world oil prices. On August 11, 2016, Brent oil on the ICE exchange rose by about 5%, trading in it for the first time in three weeks closed above $46 per barrel.

Growth in oil prices led to the fact that the S&P energy index rose by 1.3% in yesterday’s trading, showing the best dynamics among the ten major sectoral indices. At the same time, one of the drivers of growth was the shares of the oil company Chevron, which rose in price by 1.26% over the day.

Investor optimism was also boosted by data on a decrease in the number of unemployed in the US and better-than-expected performance of major retailers Macy’s and Kohl’s. Macy’s shares rose 17.09% yesterday after it was revealed that like-for-like sales at Macy’s stores declined less than expected. Kohl’s securities rose by 16.17% amid positive reporting.

The main US stock indexes were also pushed up by the growth in the value of shares of Nike (+2.9%), the pharmaceutical company Merck (+1.58%) and the manufacturer of Post-It notebooks and adhesive tape Scotch 3M (+1.22%).
