Bahía bioluminiscente de Mosquito en Puerto Rico recupera su luz
La Bahía Mosquito, una de las cinco bioluminiscentes en el mundo, ha vuelto a ver la luz, tras meses de práctica oscuridad, brillando más que nunca en 16 años.
Situada en la isla de Vieques, en el este de Puerto Rico, la Bahía Mosquito estuvo a cero de luminosidad entre la segunda semana de diciembre de 2017 a marzo de 2018. Ahora, brilla como hacía años no lo hacía.
La zona ha registrado un restablecimiento drástico en su bioluminiscencia en los pasados cinco meses, al recoger en junio los científicos 2,5 millones de dinoflagelados -pequeños organismos parte del plactón marino que provocan el fenómeno de luz natural- por galón (600.
000 por litro).
La bahía Mosquito llegó a estar prácticamente con cero bioluminiscencia once semanas desde el paso del huracán María en 2017, con la breve excepción de la primera semana de diciembre que contó con algo de brillo. La luz es en realidad una reacción de defensa natural en esos organismos cuando son agitados, lo que provoca como respuesta la liberación de energía en forma de luz.
Según dijo hoy a Efe la bióloga a cargo del sistema de muestreo de este cuerpo de agua, Airamzul Cabral, la cifra millonaria es la mayor cantidad de dinoflagelados que se recogen en más de 16 años.
Cabral indicó que tuvieron que pasar 9 meses después de las devastaciones que provocaron los huracanes Irma y María en septiembre del año pasado para saber que la recolecta de dinoflagelados había aumentado a la citada cantidad millonaria.
La perito dijo que la cantidad de dinoflagelados en el puerto “estaba estable, hasta que llegó María”, cuando semanas después del paso del ciclón recogió entre 100.

Cabral afirmó que ahora “la bahía Mosquito brilla constantemente”.
“Hace tiempo no la veíamos brillar de esa manera.
Mi esperanza de que volviera a brillar eran bien grande. Aunque se tardara, iba a volver a brillar, pero no brillando tanto como ahora”, recalcó.
En cuestión de brillantez, Cabral dijo que en una escala de 0 a 9, está en un ocho con luna llena.
Cabral Guadalupe afirmó además que la brillantez de la Bahía Mosquito se debe a que en su costa no cuenta con casas flotantes que ubican o con las embarcaciones que se pasean por La Parguera, en Lajas, al sur de la isla, donde también hay otra bahía bioluminiscente.

Very much. The restaurants were great. I liked how big this resort is, the territory also has a convenient transport interchange. The staff is very friendly and hospitable.

We went to the Dominican Republic for the first time from 01/06/22 to 01/17/22. We went by direct charter flight from Yekaterinburg – 14 hours of flight. We flew with PegasFly, I do not recommend using the services of this company, only in case of emergency (there will be no comfort on the plane, good food too), because the flight was difficult.
