Slice of the real Puerto Rico

Jun 2022 • Solo

This beach is always breezy and refreshing. The morning sunrise is spectacular. After about 2pm, the sun hides behind a nearby building, which casts a shadow on a bit of the sand, great to be out of the sun. People congregate under the shadow. After a storm, rocks, coral, and shells are kicked up onto the beach. Sometimes old rounded glass is deposited on the sand, best to wear flip flops. Most days, a guy with an ice cream cart walks the sidewalk and even goes right to the waters edge to meet people in the water. You have to admire that.

Better than condado beach

Apr 2021 • Friends

I stayed in a hotel right on front of this beach, (the dreamcatcher) , walking distance to it while in an exclusive neighborhood. This beach is one of the best beaches, its clean due to waves, water temperature is perfect, but safe compared to the high current of condado which is known for deaths, you can still walk to condado. Please visit this beach while in San juan, will not disappoint

Beach for Locals

May 2021

We told our waitress at Pinky’s that we were going to Condado Beach afterwards, and she recommended we check out Ocean Park first. It is a larger stretch of beach compared to Condado and less crowded but otherwise equally comparable. The waves were rough but the beach was relaxing

Great local beach

Dec 2019

This lovely beach is a great alternative to the Condado beach, which tends to get very crowded between locals and guests from the various hotels. Most of the people at this beach are locals, which is nice. The sand is soft, the water is warm and not too strong, and there’s plenty of space for everyone, even when it’s busy. The beach also borders Parque Barbosa, a busy park with a track and a soccer field, so the entire area feels very community-oriented. If you’re here in late June, make sure to stay for La Noche de San Juan, the evening before the birthday of St. John the Baptist; on that night, people flock to the beach and enter the water at midnight – the festivities are a lot of fun.

It was okay. Not a fantasy beach. Basically, there was a little sand and relatively calms waves. The waters weren’t as clear as in the Caribbean.

Clean, quiet beach

Feb 2020 • Friends

Great clean, quiet beach near our airb&b (La Casa Blanca). There is a small chair rental and refreshment stand Thursday-Sunday. Make sure to check out La Trillorca – an awesome sandwich stand on the beach. Run by a really nice couple, they are there Thursday-Sunday. The turkey pastrami is to die for…maybe the best sandwich I’ve had in my life! Plus they make great tropical drinks.

The surf is strong but it’s great for swimming once you get out a bit. I saw parents with kids. You can take a walk toward condado If you stay along the sea wall and don’t mind getting splashed a little.

We had a ball drinking Mojitos and watching the kite surfers do their thing. Good low rise hotels and Airbnb’s nearby. Better that nearby Condado.

I really enjoyed my time where in I laid down on the sand of this beach. I also took a walk along the beach. While I enjoyed my swim, I must say that the water is choppy and rough. I also got seaweed in the pockets of my bathing suit!

Local vibes

May 2022

Ocean Park is a great local beach. The waves are a bit rougher. It is a gorgeous aquamarine color. There is a nice parking lot right in front making finding parking a breeze. You can find a stand that sells smoothies and pina Coladas and a hot dog stand on certain days of the week.

One of the best beaches bc the undertow isn’t that strong. Most of the beaches in San Juan are scary. Lots of rocks and a crazy under tow. Swim at your own risk because there are no life guards.

Relaxing beach

Jan 2020 • Friends

Beach was nice. It wasn’t annoyingly filled with tourist, but you can tell it wasn’t a lot of locals there. A lot of coral reef, but I didn’t mind. You can get empanadas, beers, and other goodies served directly to you by the locals. Beers was cold, and empanadas was authentic. There was a lot of dogs on the beach.

Rest in Tenerife.Tours to Spain.Canary Islands.

Tenerife is the most popular and largest island of the Canary archipelago.

No matter how trite it may sound, but Tenerife is really an “island of eternal spring” with a mild comfortable climate all year round. Indeed, even in winter, the air temperature is on average + 24-26, and water plus 21-23 degrees. There is no sweltering heat in summer due to the coolness of the Atlantic Ocean. The most comfortable time for a beach holiday is summer, and in winter and spring we advise you to make a bias towards sightseeing holidays. And there is plenty of entertainment here! Everything in order! nine0003

Excursion Tenerife.

The visiting card of the island is the Teide volcano and the national park of the same name. We cannot imagine a visit to Tenerife without a visit to the volcano! These are incredibly beautiful landscapes, mountain roads, amazing nature. Often, the tour includes several more objects, including historical ones, so the trip will be eventful. For experienced travelers, we recommend renting a car, it is cheaper here than on the mainland of Spain and if you book, for example, for a week, a middle-class car rental will cost you 11 euros per day. This way you can drive around the entire coast of the island and see more! nine0003

La Laguna, Tenerife’s cultural capital and the island’s oldest city, is also very popular. Don’t miss the basalt cliffs of Los Gigantes, where pleasure boats depart from; the island of La Gomera with its laurel-heather forests and Masca Gorge with fantastic views and serpentines that will lead to the ocean itself!

Entertainment in Tenerife.

Loro Park and Siam Park are a must visit on the island! Loro Parque is a park of flora and fauna, originally it was a parrot park (loro is Spanish for “parrot”), now it is the main Canarian zoo. The park has animals from all over the world, as well as a penguinarium, killer whale and dolphin shows, sea lions and parrots. The entrance ticket to Loro Parque costs 38 euros for an adult and 24 euros for a child. The most convenient way to get here is from Puerto de la Cruz. nine0003

Siam Park is the main water park of the island and a huge entertainment area! The most convenient way to get to the water park is from the resorts of Costa Adeje and Las Americas, free transfers from these resorts run regularly. The entrance ticket costs the same as in Loro Park – 38 and 24 euros, respectively. A little hack! By purchasing a double ticket to both parks, the price is more pleasant – 66 euros for an adult and 46 euros for a child! Although the ticket is 2in1, you can visit these parks on different days, the most important thing is to keep the ticket until the end of the visit 🙂

Talking about entertainment, we cannot but mention the Carnival! This is a very popular holiday, which is held annually in February and is very popular. One of the brightest events not only in the Canaries, but all over the world! The second most popular in the world after the Brazilian! In 2020, the carnival will take place from February 19 to March 3. Therefore, we recommend everyone who wants to get to the holiday to start looking for housing now.

Surfing.

Of course, when we talk about Tenerife, we imagine the stormy Atlantic Ocean, and although the popular resorts have many breakwaters for a comfortable stay, Tenerife is a real paradise for surfers! Waves, wind, excellent temperature conditions attract active youth and athletes for surfing. Tenerife has a huge number of surf spots along the entire coast. You can ride both in the South and in the North, it all depends on the direction of the swells. In summer, the waves are usually smaller, but in winter, powerful swells come more often, which attract experienced surfers here at this time of the year. Nevertheless, there is always a place for beginners to ride: reef spots here are adjacent to sandy ones, where gentle waves rise, ideal for learning to surf. As elsewhere, it is better to ride in Tenerife in the morning, when there is still no wind. nine0003

Gastronomy.

The national cuisine of the Canary Islands has much in common with the cuisine of Spain in general. Canarian cuisine is famous for its meat dishes, we recommend you to try “Conejo en salmorejo” – a rabbit dish cooked in salmorejo sauce. As in the Iberian Peninsula, fish dishes are very popular in the cuisine of Tenerife, not least due to the fact that a large number of species of fish and shellfish are found in the Atlantic Ocean. As a rule, fish is served fried or grilled. The most popular varieties of fish are tuna (atun), vieja (vieja), black (cherne), abadejo (abadejo), pompano (pompano) (one of them is endemic species of fish, you can try them only in Tenerife). nine0003

A very popular Canarian dish is the small potato, boiled unpeeled in salted water and called Papas arrugadas. Potatoes can be served alone or as a side dish with chicken, fish or meat with one of the hot sauces. Special mention deserves the local Mojo sauce, which can be red – Mojo Rojo or green – Mojo Verde, depending on the ingredients added to it. It is also impossible not to mention the famous cheeses made from goat’s milk. Gourmets are advised to go to authentic cafes and taste delicious Canarian cuisine, as traditional dishes can not always be found in tourist places. nine0003

Tenerife resorts.

El Medano. This place is loved by surfers and kitesurfers for moderate waves and constant wind. The tourist infrastructure is well developed here, democratic prices. There is a large nudist beach La Tejita. One of the features of the resort is the bright orange sand. We do not recommend this resort for a family beach holiday, it is still a pleasure for experienced travelers, for young people and for those who want to catch a wave, while enjoying the absence of lines and the so-called “package tourists”. nine0003

Los Cristianos . A resort for tourists who value peace and moderation. There are no noisy parties and absolutely no nightlife. We recommend families with children and elderly tourists to relax here. But in fact, everything is not so boring! 🙂 The infrastructure is well developed here: restaurants and cafes, shops and markets. The main feature of the resort is wide beaches. The largest and most comfortable sandy beaches of Los Cristianos are Playa de Las Vistas and Playa de Los Cristianos, both of which are almost a kilometer long. The sea on Las Vitas is very clean, as evidenced by a special distinction – a blue flag. nine0003

Playa de Las Americas is the most visited resort in Tenerife with the most developed tourist infrastructure! Las Americas is especially proud of its well-maintained, comfortable and clean beaches, equipped with breakwaters that reliably protect the shore from the raging ocean and create a special comfort for those who like to swim and sunbathe. On Avenida De Las Américas, better known as the Golden Mile, you will see boutiques and elegant shopping centers, including Parque Santiago III or Safari, which are always crowded. It is not in vain that the Las Americas resort has gained a reputation as an oasis of nightlife, because even after sunset, a cheerful life is seething here with dances and songs, noisy companies of young people and the elderly who are not averse to tasting all its delights. Playa de Las Americas is an absolutely amazing place that can give every visitor exactly the experience they expect. nine0003

Costa Adeje . Located in the south near the resort of Playa de Las Americas, near the famous water park Siam Park. This is a prestigious resort with a more relaxed life than neighboring Las Americas. The highlight of the resort are wide beaches equipped with breakwaters. Recommended for a romantic getaway and for families with children. You can sunbathe on the light sand and splash around in warm clear water with a turquoise tint on one of the equipped beaches. The blue-flagged Playa del Duque and Fanabe/Torviscas have gained particular popularity. Many beaches of Costa Adeje were covered with white sand from the Sahara, their color gradually changes from white to yellow, from yellow to gray, but there is a beach with black volcanic sand Playas de Troya

Playa Paraiso . A small resort town in the southwest of Tenerife. The resort area of Playa Paraiso consists of 4 multi-storey buildings located near the coast. Two of them are occupied by the Hard Rock 5 * hotel, the rest are Club Paraiso and Paraiso del Sur residential buildings. There are only five hotels in the resort, the rest is the private sector, consisting of villas and apartments. This piece of paradise has everything you need for recreation and entertainment, there are several night bars, many cafes and restaurants for tourists. nine0003

Puerto de Santiago, Playa de Arena and Los Gigantes – three small resort towns that, merged together, form a three-kilometer tourist area on the west coast of Tenerife. It is quiet here, provincially cute, not crowded with respect to the southern resorts, there is no feeling of an anthill even at the height of the season. However, the infrastructure is quite well developed. Lots of shops and restaurants. That’s what’s tight, so it’s with entertainment. People come here to relax calmly, measuredly, without fuss and water parks. This is a good option for those who are looking for a relaxing holiday on the coast outside the big resorts, while you can rent a car and drive around the island 🙂

Puerto de la Cruz . This is the north of the island of Tenerife, a great option at any time of the year, but not a beach holiday. This is a city of contrasts with a well-developed infrastructure; Canarians live here. It is suitable for contemplation, leisurely walks along the streets and lush green parks. Here, tourists are not the masters of life, but only guests who have briefly plunged into the hectic life of the Spanish city. As we already wrote, this is not a beach holiday, but then where will tourists swim? For this, an alternative to the ocean is provided – the Lago Martianez pool complex with sea water heated in winter. Unlike the municipal beaches in Spain, the entrance is paid here: 5 euros for an adult and 2.5 euros for a child, but the price already includes the rental of a sun lounger. A large lake with islands for sunbathing and a fountain and several smaller lakes are surrounded by gardens with local flora and are combined into one recreation complex for children and adults. It is located right on a rock in the open air. This is the work of the famous Canarian architect Cesar Manrique, who managed to succinctly fit all the man-made beauty into the rocky coast. Here you will also find a casino, a restaurant and several bars. In the evening, the fountain is beautifully illuminated, so you can linger in the bath until dark and admire the lights. nine0003

Santa Cruz de Tenerife . The capital of Tenenife is not a tourist resort at all and it cannot boast of an abundance of hotels with beautiful pools, because most tourists prefer the southern part of the island with a milder climate to relax. A huge port operates here, where cruise liners come, in this regard, we do not recommend considering the resort as a beach holiday. The city is suitable for shopping and sightseeing: the Church of St. Francis of Assisi, the Church of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Masonic Temple, several museums, beautiful squares and parks, and the Auditorio de Tenerife concert hall. However, once a year the capital is filled with crowds of tourists, because Carnival starts in February! Most of the coast of Santa Cruz is occupied by the port and there is absolutely nowhere to swim. Therefore, Playa de las Teresitas (Spanish: Playa de las Teresitas), located a few kilometers from the capital in the town of San Andres, is considered urban. A dam has been built along the beach, so there are practically no waves there and the water warms up faster. And sand was brought here from the Sahara in the last century. nine0003

As you can see, the Spanish island of Tenerife is open to absolutely everyone and always! Regular flights from Kyiv to Tenerife at the moment (season winter 2019-2020) are available only with transfers, direct charters are planned from spring 2020. It is possible to mix holidays in Tenerife with a trip to Spain, such as Barcelona. We welcome your questions and inquiries regarding Spain. Thank you for your interest in our article!
