Playa buye: Discovering Playa Buyé

Buyé Beach

playa-de-buye

Buyé Beach, Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico (southern end)

There’s a beach in Cabo Rojo that most tourists hardly visit. But you will definitely want to check out. Especially if you like beaches that are tranquil, crystal clear and have fluffy tan sand. That, in a nutshell, is Buyé Beach.

Buyé is one of those beaches that isn’t featured in magazines or travel guides. It’s more of a local secret. That’s why many people just pass by it without even knowing that they did.

In fact, even when you get there, you’ll feel that you are lost. You’ll arrive at a small parking space with no beach to be seen. That’s because of all the urban sprawl that has spread along the coastline. But look carefully. There’s a small gate at the right end of the parking area that leads to a narrow sidewalk. Follow that sidewalk about 100 meters due west and you’ll arrive at one of the nicest beaches in the area.

Buyé is located about three miles north of Boquerón Beach, on road PR-307. It’s a natural beach, so there is little parking, no showers, restrooms, lifeguards, safety buoys, concession stands, gazebos, recycling bins, signage or written material. It’s also very popular among the locals, so expect large crowds during weekends and holidays.

Buyé is also a pretty long beach (a little over a half a mile). That makes it an excellent place to go for a long tranquil walk, enjoy a sunset or the view of Desecheo Island in the distance.

There is a cordoned area where the water is crystal clear and the bottom is pure sand. This is the area favored by locals. However, here’s a little secret, if you walk north along the coastline you’ll arrive at a place where it would seem like you can’t go on. Look closely to your right, behind what used to be a fence, and you’ll see a small trail. Follow that trail for about a minute and you’ll arrive at a second stretch of beach that’s looks like it was taken out of the movie “Blue Lagoon”. It’s pure heaven!!!

Oh, and one last thing: the surf here is practically inexistent. It’s almost like swimming in a giant swimming pool!

Beautiful beach. Peaceful – family & pet friendly. Gets busy especially depending on the time of year. Almond trees scattered for shade. Food, drinks and clean bathrooms. No high rises to block the beautiful views all around!

Nice clear water! Went Sunday and they had karaoke, not sure if that’s an everyday thing but it was cool. There are tons of spots for shade even though it was crowded as all heck. What an experience, overall it was a great day.

It’s a great place, we had a lot of fun with the kids. The temperature of the water was very nice. It’s a place to go in the early hours. It gets very crowded on the weekend.

We had a fantastic, memorable stay at the Paradise Peak. So many highlights – from the warm hospitality from Tess and Hugh, gorgeous views, plants and birds, delightful and healthy breakfast (followed by complimentary sunset drinks!), a location that felt truly unique on the island, wonderful recommendations for things to do and places to eat, great lines and comfortable seating throughout the property. Perfect as a base for exploring the island or just to check out and take it easy. We can’t wait to come back again!

Villa Jwi Lavi Boutique Hotel is located in Saint Martin, 1.4 km from Anse Marseille Beach. This property offers a shared lounge, free private parking and a terrace.
We stayed first in Grande Case to get the beach experience. Then we went to Cul-de-Sac for Jwi Lavi. Not far but different atmosphere. Beachy touristy to residential quiet. Google maps did an adequate job of getting us there. Parking right in front of the villa was plentiful. Very helpful host checked us in. Few steps up to our very large room with a beautiful landscape/sea view. Very comfortable bed and pillows. Big TV with Chromecast. Nice bathroom with good water pressure. Just a few steps down to continental breakfast. Our host was there to ensure we had everything we needed. Freshly baked bread and local jam and an excellent coffee maker. Close by is a Super U (local supermarket) where we bought European cheese and charcuteries to create a very big breakfast the next morning. After 2 full days of activities and some island hopping, it was so nice to come back to a quiet, comfortable villa with just a few rooms. It’s a small island. Nothing is really far. But it was a world away from the hustle and bustle of Grand Case and Fredericksburg.

The Orient Beach Hotel is located in East Bay, 70 meters from Orient Bay Beach. It offers an outdoor pool, free private parking, a garden and a terrace.
The beach was beautiful. We enjoyed the complimentary beach lounge chairs. However, we were told we had to move back a row or pay $20 each for a front row chair. The complimentary breakfast was okay – rolls, fruit, coffee. Our room was on the first floor so no climbing of stairs. The room was spacious and clean. Nice bathroom. Grounds were lovely. Pool was nice. Drinks from the bar were excellent. Walking distance to several restaurants.

Located between Marigot Bay and the Simpson Bay Lagoon, Centr’ Hotel is a 12-minute drive from the International Airport. Princess Juliana and 600 meters from the harbour.
Everything was absolutely perfect, the best holiday I had for a long time ago.
The hotel location is great, easy to access from the dutch side also and close to Marigot Marina. The street had always a parking place to be found after 17:00, is well paved compared to other roads in saint martin, there is a supermarket just by only crossing the street, there are restaurants nearby in the Marina Port (close to the ferry to Anguilla) there are ATM’s and the area is a safe one.
It couldn’t be better than this for saint martin french side.
I was traveling here with my husband, second time for me, first for him and we received a super nice St James Duplex, spacious, with balcony, very clean and quiet. Really it was an appartment!
This showed that the personnel cared about my request to have a nice and quiet room.
We also had a little kitchenette that made us very happy for some dinners, as the lunch was always taken on the beach:)
Rooms are really more spacious than look in the pictures!
And the personnel..I couldn’t be more grateful to Lise first of all, she was offering us each morning best breakfast ever as she was always smiling, good mood, joking and willing to make you feel great. Moreover, she is always willing to help her colleagues,as observed. she knows her job perfectly and moves sooo quick,0 mistakes!!Nothing was missing from the breakfast, never!
We also had a great dinner at the Carre Vert restaurant of the hotel which honestly has amazing plates and were served by Sophie, she also has a great spirit and a really good heart, she showed a lot of empathy for us as my husband had a little headache, offering us to take the plates into the room if necessary or by opening a nornally closed part of the interior restaurant.
