Playa tamarindo culebra: Playa Tamarindo | Discover Puerto Rico
Tamarindo Beach
Culebra has a number of beautiful beaches to enjoy. Between the airport and Flamenco beach, you will find the road to Tamarindo Beach, another one of Culebra’s gems. As part of the Cayo Luis Peña Nature Reserve, its ecological value is extraordinary. For lovers of snorkeling and scuba diving alike, Tamarindo is great to let loose and get to know the marine life Culebra offers. You can find the way to Tamarindo on road 251, in front of the Flamenco Lagoon. You will see the entrance to the left, just after the first tree that divides the road. The road is paved and comfortable. If you have no car, you can ask a public car to drop you off by the entrance road and walk about 10 to 15 minutes to reach the beach. You can also visit by boat, as long as you follow the Nature Reserve rules, including the use anchor buoys instead of anchoring in the sand and not fishing in or near the waters of Tamarindo.
The first thing I invite you to do once you get to Tamarindo is take a moment to enjoy the view. With Cayo Luis Peña in front and its orientation towards the West, it gives everyone who visits magical sunsets. It has shaded areas and picnic tables for a perfect day at the beach with family and friends.
Tamarindo’s beach is a mixture of white sand and coral stone that extends for more than a mile. Its coastline is very peculiar. When you first walk into the water, you will step on only stone and coral then, about 4 feet in; you will find sand at a depth of approximately 6 feet. For this reason, we recommend this beach to people who are confident in their swimming skills. Those who aren’t should bring a flotation device. Because of its peculiar shore, snorkeling is a common pastime in Tamarindo. You don’t need to risk open waters to enjoy dozens of underwater species. In one visit, you could spot a multitude of fish with a vast array of colors, stingrays and even sea turtles.
Another activity you can enjoy in Tamarindo is kayaking since there are no strong currents or big waves. A lot of visitors take guided tours from the beach. As part of the tour, they do alittle bit of snorkeling, enjoying Tamarindo fully.
Tamarindo is a relatively desolate beach so I recommend you don’t go alone, especially if you plan to do some snorkeling. Although located west of Culebra and protected from strong currents by Cayo Luis Peña, I never recommend snorkeling alone. Furthermore, like all other beaches in Culebra (except for Flamenco), Tamarindo has no amenities such as bathrooms, parking, kiosks, etc. Therefore, I suggest you bring food and snacks for a day at the beach. Always remember to take your trash with you when you go.
We invite you to visit and explore Tamarindo’s beauty above and below the water. You will not regret it!

Tamarindo Beach provides a wonderful and rewarding snorkeling and ocean kayaking experience in Culebra, Puerto Rico. The clear, generally calm waters, and available tours from local businesses make this beach great for groups of any size or any experience level.
Navigating to Tamarindo Beach is a simple left off 251 before you get to Flamenco Beach and has a small parking area with a kayak ramp. Usually you can find one or two local businesses offering kayak, mask, fins, and vest rentals here. A publico, or private taxi/van, can give you a ride here for a few dollars if you are not renting a vehicle.
Snorkelers can enter the water just to the left of the kayak ramp near a picnic table on the beach. Swim left and out to quickly find all sorts of wildlife. Tamarindo has been known to have plenty of fish, urchins, seagrass, some coral, sea turtles, and stingrays.
Shallow areas of the beach away from the kayak and snorkeling entrance are rocky can be home to sea urchins, so this beach doesn’t make for a great play area. The shore itself is also very small, so don’t expect much room to lay out on a crowded day. This beach is suited to kayaking or snorkeling, and the water is generally clear and calm – making it friendly for beginners. Folks who are not gifted swimmers can still enjoy themselves and comfortably take part in all the action if they wear a life-vest.

Explore Culebra Island
At Flamenco Beach, which is always ranked among the top 5 beaches in the world, the water is incredibly blue, and the sand is white and soft. The contrast of colors with the green island behind it is indescribably beautiful. Flamenco is usually pretty busy with people because it’s so popular, and there are a couple places to eat close by.Just to southwest of Flamenco, you can take a road out to…

Explore Juan Diego Falls
Juan Diego Falls are a pair of waterfalls that can be accessed by an incredibly short and ignored trail when passing through El Yunque. When driving up the mountain (heading southwest on 191) the trail entrance can be found behind a road barrier on the right hand side of the road at approximately KM 9.8. This is at a corner between Yokahú Tower and Big Tree Trail’s parking areas. There are ma…
Snorkel at Sapphire Beach
Sapphire beach is a white sandy beach on the north east side of St. Thomas. Sea grape trees surround the beach and provide lots of shade. There are many ducks that frequent this beach.
This is a great beach for snorkeling as there are shallow reefs on the right side of the beach. You can also windsurf, jet ski, and parasail in the marina nearby.

We only booked here for one night since it was close to the airport and really regret we couldn’t stay longer. Nico and Lisa were wonderful hosts and we can’t thank them enough for their hospitality. Room was great – very clean, comfortable and nicely decorated; bathroom was big. The breakfast was a very nice touch – banana bread was so yummy! We absolutely loved their community pool – the views were incredible and it’s a perfect spot to see the sunset which was absolutely stunning! We highly recommend this place.

Location was great. Easy access to a great, uncrowded beach. Nearby restaurant Ginger simply the best restaurant in Costa Rica after multiple trips. Easy access to airport, national parks, other beaches. Clientele principally local. Playa Hermosa not a party place like trashy Coco next store but safe, quiet and perfect for COVID getaway.
