Puerto Rico
The island has an almost rectangular shape and very small size (180 by 65 km). Puerto Rico’s closest neighbors are the Dominican Republic to the west and the Virgin Islands, British to the northeast, American to the southeast.
Capital – San Juan
Air travel
The most convenient way to get to Puerto Rico is by flying with a connection in one of the US cities.
The flight from New York to San Juan takes about 3.5 hours.
Visa
To visit Puerto Rico, citizens of the Russian Federation must apply for a visa in advance at the US Consulate.
Climate
Puerto Rico’s maritime tropical climate is characterized by a mild and subtle change of seasons.
The average air temperature in summer is +29 degrees, in winter +23 degrees. In mountainous regions the weather is always cooler.
The wet period is from May to mid-October and is accompanied by hot weather and strong winds. At this time, the likelihood of hurricanes and typhoons increases.
Money
National currency – US Dollar (USD, US$)
But the Puerto Ricans themselves call the local currency “peso”. Prices are very similar to American ones. Puerto Rico is considered one of the cheapest countries in the Caribbean. Here, the cost of one night’s stay in the best luxury hotel will cost you no more than $250.
Credit cards are accepted everywhere. Also, in almost all major cities there are ATMs where you can withdraw the required amount at any time.
As a tip in Puerto Rico, it is customary to leave 10-15% of the check amount in restaurants and about 5% in street small cafes.
Beaches
Puerto Rican beaches will appeal to those who like to soak up the sun on the white sand and those who love outdoor activities. Coastal waters abound with interesting places for diving and sport fishing.
Attractions
Viejo San Juan can truly be considered an open-air historical museum. After all, it was here that the first buildings of the capital of Puerto Rico appeared. The entire Old Town is “littered” with colorful buildings of the Spanish discoverers of the New World from the 16th-17th centuries. During your tour of Puerto Rico, you should definitely visit this city and stroll along its cobbled narrow streets along the facades of ancient buildings, whose balconies with wrought-iron gratings are entwined with flowers and greenery.
Very close, just 8 kilometers from the capital, is the world’s largest rum factory Bacardi. You will have the opportunity to visit the museum of this famous family, watch the process of making rum, taste and buy your favorite varieties of local products.
Ponce is Puerto Rico’s second largest city and deserves the title of “Pearl of the South”.
It was founded in 1692 by the Spanish conquistadors and consists entirely of incredibly beautiful churches, squares and mansions with cozy courtyards and fountains. You can also see here the oldest fire station on the planet.
The Cabo Rojo peninsula is famous for its inspiring scenery from the observation deck at the Faro de Cabo Rojo lighthouse. The colorful limestone cape Cabo Rojo is surrounded by the blue waters of the Caribbean Sea, salt lakes with piles of salt, dense mangroves and other shrubs and trees bizarre from the constant wind.
