When you think of the bar scene Puerto Rico, you might assume it’s all thatched-roof beachfront bars slinging umbrella-topped mojitos and piña coladas. And while there are plenty of sand-in-your-toes spots to choose from, the island’s drinking scene is a lot more diverse than that, so ditch those images of Margaritaville dancing in your head. Bartenders, like the chefs who have turned the island into a bonafide dining destination, are embracing interesting and local ingredients. From elegant speakeasies serving inventive craft cocktails to beer beers with rotating local brews, there’s a bar in Puerto Rico to suit every taste, mood and price point.

La Penúltima perfectly balances hip, industrial-chic vibes with a cozy neighborhood atmosphere. It’s one of those rare bars that feels artsy and cool without being the slightest bit pretentious. Cocktails are simple and well-crafted—no foams or unnecessary flourishes here. We like the daiquiri and the Isla Borinquen Fizz, a creamy and effervescent blend of rum, gin, coconut, pineapple, and soda. There are also a handful of good local beers. All of it brings locals out in droves.

Saint Voodoo’s brings a touch of New Orleans funk to the tiny island of Vieques with its colorful, tiki-inspired vibes. The ownership’s changed since the hurricane (it was formerly the beloved Al’s Mar Azul) but it still has the same relaxed, dive-bar feel and reliably epic sunset views from the upstairs deck. Leathery older regulars will tell you that these guys do the best Painkiller on the island, and they’re not wrong; the simple tiki cocktail, a blend of rum, coconut cream, and orange juice, is perfect in this setting. The piña coladas are great, too. This isn’t a hip, sceney cocktail bar, and that’s precisely why we like it.

It gets crowded and buzzy on weekends but otherwise pretty mellow: exactly the kind of place you can kick back for a few hours. Taberna was the first beer garden to open in Puerto Rico, and it boasts one of the most extensive lists on the island: more than 200 craft beers. Rincón Beer Company is casual, bright, and lively, with lots of cool local art hanging on the walls, a hastily scribbled chalkboard menu, and casually dressed guests tossing back drinks and playing board games. This is a brewery so if you’re here, you’re drinking beer, and they have 16 on tap, the most from a microbrewery on the island, as well as a selection of bottles. On the weekends the space gets pretty rowdy when there’s live music and brunch.

A barbershop by day, mixologist haven by night, this charming and lighthearted local joint can be best described as moustache themed, featuring various barber chairs from different periods and craft cocktails with hairstyle-related names. It is a welcoming and friendly bar with its drinks menu listed on a large chalkboard. Try the homemade ginger beer without a miss.

Taberna was the first beer garden to open in Puerto Rico, and it boasts one of the most extensive menus on the island with more than 200 craft beers. Strong cocktails, soft reggae music, and terrific ocean views – everything that one can desire for. Kai rests on Playa Jobos in surfing hotspot Isabela in the northwest. The bar stores ten kinds of international beer primarily, and about the same number of cocktails are on the menu plus the six different kinds of margaritas. Note: The cocktails taste tropical and sweet, but they are powerful. A few rum punches may just knock you out, but you cannot go wrong with a cold rum punch, a plate of mofongo, and the spectacular vistas over the beach.

Encircled beautifully by swaying palms and decorated with delicate fairy lights, La Copa Llena feels like a rom-com setting. Though the restaurant is known for its tapas-style appetizers, the cocktails alone are worth the trip to Rincón. There is a thoughtful selection of light craft cocktails, like the Spicy Parchatini, a vodka Martini with a splash of chilli-filled passionfruit juice. They also offer easy-sipping concoctions like the Rincón Shandy, made with Medalla beer, gin, lime, and orange. Additionally, there are beers from the Boquerón Brewing Company and a lovely wine list featuring some nice whites from Spain and Chile.

The decisive match is always special. It often comes to the fore not so much skill as attitude and psychology. And when a ticket to the World Cup is at stake, all past merits fade into the background. Of course, the Russian team has much more merit than Puerto Rico. And it was our team that was considered the favorite of the match. The point was small: to go to the site and prove that you are really stronger than your rivals.
The head coach of the Russians, Alexander Kovalev, compared with yesterday’s meeting against Belgium, made only one change in the starting lineup: instead of Nina Glonti, Olga Frolkina appeared. Which seemed logical. The forward of Dynamo Kursk the day before became the most productive in our team, scoring 10 points and making 3 long-range shots out of 4. Glonti proved at EuroBasket 2021 that, leaving the bench, she can bring a lot of benefits with her hits. nine0010
This move worked 100 percent. Already in the first attack, Frolkina reminded that she was an excellent sniper, hitting the ring from behind the arc. True, there was no immediate continuation. In the starting three minutes, the Russian team did not score anything else, although in defense they missed only one effective attack of their rivals. And then Raisa Musina and Elizaveta Komarova got down to business. Our captain dominated the opening quarter with 8 rebounds, the same as all Puerto Rican players combined! It was she who moved the matter forward, and after that Komarov scored 5 points in a row. The pause was good for the Latin American team. It’s good that its players did not perform free kicks in the best way. But they played much more actively under our ring. After 8 minutes, the Russian team led only “+5” (14:9), but then Glonti appeared on the court just in time. And she confirmed the correct choice of our coach with two long-range hits – 22:11 by the first break.
The double difference in the score almost played a cruel joke on the Russian team. In the debut of the second period, Komarova brought the gap to +13, but the Puerto Ricans responded with their first well-aimed three-pointer, which gave them additional strength. The second successful attempt led to the first time-out of the Russians (27:19at the 13th minute), but he did not help either. Losses and appeared holes in the defense sharply revived the intrigue that had died out: by the middle of the quarter, only 4 points remained from a large advantage – 27:23.

Uselessly! Unfortunately, the Puerto Ricans played out in the attack Musina, who had already managed to complete a double-double.
