Puerto Rico

Puerto Rico is a small island state, the distinguishing feature of which is that, having its own Constitution, it has not received full independence. Puerto Rico, whose territory occupies about 9 thousand km 2, “sheltered” at the junction of the Lesser and Greater Antilles, of which it is located. The Atlantic Ocean washes the state from the north, and the Caribbean Sea from the south. The island on which the country is located bears the same name. In addition, several nearby islands adjoin the state territory of Puerto Rico. Its coastline stretches for 501 km.

A great variety of bird species, including endemics, live in the wilds of this forest. The climatic features of this area contribute to the growth of cacti. The dry forest of Guanica is completely different from the humid tropical forest of El Yunque, located in the east of the northern coast of the island. The reason for the local dry climate is the Central Mountain Range, which separates Guanica from the northeastern part of the island, where about 2500 mm of precipitation falls annually, while in Guanica it is less than 750 mm, and in some places even less than 150 mm.

Although the US dollar is the official currency of Puerto Rico, sometimes you will see price tags in stores that show prices in “pesos”, the Puerto Rican dollar. Worth seeing are the miniature snow-white houses with bright framing that form narrow pedestrian streets surrounded by blooming bougainvilleas. The locals even call this village the Venice of the Canaries, because the canals and bridges give it a certain resemblance to the famous Italian city.

The resort of Puerto de Mogane has good restaurants and souvenir shops, visiting which will give you pleasant emotions. Namely, in the souvenir shops of Puerto de Mogana you can buy art products of Canarian artisans.
