Wonderful day
Great place to spend some time, has two water falls with easy access, the smallest falls has a rope swing. You can swim at either fall. Kid friendly, full bar with great local food and great service. Prices are very cheap.

El Mina is currently closed due to Covid
Unfortunately, El Mina is currently closed. I’m guessing it’s due to covid 19. The other hikes and falls were open in El yunque however. The park ranger was saying that it would open some time in 2021…. 😟

Don’t miss this natural wonder!
One of the highlights of our trip! This is not easy to find but worth the effort! I read plenty of reviews and followed the advice of others. Us google maps to get there and slow down at mile marker 5.2. There is a guy on his front porch that will direct you on where to park for $5 and then will show you the path to get down. Once into the rainforest, it is wet and slippery. The walk is short but steep and when it opens up to the waterfalls and boulders, it is absolutely beautiful! I suggest you watch people go down the slide and if you’re lucky enough to have a local explain how to go down, it helps. The rocks are slippery and the slide is scary the first time so proceed with caution. I only did it once but my kids went multiple times. There is a lot to explore above the waterfall slide as well as below. We spent about 3 hours here and enjoyed every minute!

Big falls at the top of a steep climb
Only big waterfall open in the park as of end of August 2022. Go past all the small ones and keep climbing to get to the big one at the top where few people go. The path is the right and then at the “Y” go left where you will see a rope protecting the edge. Just over that hill, is the big falls.

Amazing river experience!
This was a highlight of our week in Puerto Rico! We were among very few tourists, mostly locals. There is a man offering $5 parking at his house just two minutes downhill from the entrance to the water, but from what I could tell, the limited parking at the top was free. There was an older, local man who is clearly passionate about the area showing everyone different ways to get closer to the waterfalls, where to jump, how to get to the petroglyphs (just very carefully climb the boulders down for a while on the left side and you’ll run into them. We were here for HOURS and loved it so much.

“Great experience”
The trip started by meeting up at a central location to meet with our guides Christian and Che. (great guys, informative and pleasant). From there we followed them in our car to the forest Guajataca where we hiked for about 45 minutes. On our way we encountered a Puerto Rican Boa( not poisonous by the way). We arrived at the viento cave and descended some stairs into the cave. The cave had beautiful formations of stalactites, stalagmites and flowstones. There was even some Quartz! There were able to see a Coqui, Crab, and spider. We heard the bats but were not able to see them. After that we were treated to a wonderful Puertorican lunch before heading back for a ride to a pretty river and waterfall. Bring plenty of water and good walking shoes. Water shoes are a good idea for the river.

Adventure is out there!
Go to the spot google takes you. Park on side of rd and look for trail thru woods just past the cat house. It is a bit challenging but well worth it. You may swim in the top pool under damn, a small ‘hot tub’ area is there as well. Use caution swimming in this pool, as the current is strong and could take you over falls. Hike along makeshift trail to the bottom. It is safe to jump off rocks, but you must know what is under the water. Try swimming to the falls. Fun to do. This place is beutiful!
