“Project” Kislitsy. Can Ukraine become the 51st US state? | In the world | Politics

The visit of Volodymyr Zelensky to the USA caused mixed feelings among the hosts. A significant part of Republican parliamentarians, for example, despite the insistent requests of the outgoing speaker Nancy Pelosi , just ignored the President of Ukraine.

“45 billion is not enough. Not enough? How much is enough then?

Despite the so-called “anti-Russian consensus” in American society, a significant part of US citizens believe that Ukraine is too expensive, and the behavior of its politicians is rather provocative.

Rep. Arizona Republican Andy Biggs remarked, not without irritation: “Zelensky says $45 billion in US aid is not enough. Not enough? How much is enough then? Enough of all this already.” nine0005

The Ukrainian side, in turn, is trying in every possible way to emphasize that the Armed Forces of Ukraine are now defending the national interests of the United States. Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the UN Serhiy Kyslytsya went further than others by posting an image of the US flag in “yellow-black tones” on a social network. “They will be together for as long as it takes,” the diplomat commented on his “know-how”.

Not all Americans liked it. Someone even saw a mockery of the national symbols of the United States. Then Kislitsa replaced the stars on this flag with tridents. nine0005

The official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zakharova ironically commented on this in her Telegram channel: “Ukraine’s permanent representative to the UN has published. .. a new flag of Ukraine. What we talked about for many years, but we were not believed, happened. Congratulations!”

“Is Ukraine now the 51st state of the USA?”

It must be said that in the United States itself they are asking the question – has Ukraine inadvertently become part of America?

In November, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Green on NTD television said: “We are financing the budget of Ukraine – $11.8 billion is sent in the form of budget support. The question is: is Ukraine now the 51st state of the USA? And what position does Zelensky hold in our government?” nine0005

Zelensky’s visit to the United States forced Green to return to this topic: “Of course, the shadow president should come to Congress and explain why he needs billions of dollars in American taxpayers for the 51st US state, which recently became Ukraine. This is absurd. Put America first.”

There are currently 50 states in the USA. Hawaii was the last state officially incorporated into the federation on August 21, 1959.

On June 26, 2020, the US House of Representatives voted to grant statehood to the metropolitan District of Columbia. Back in 2017, residents of Puerto Rico voted in a referendum to join the United States as a state. nine0005

Territory of Influence

But, in addition to the directly territorial interpretation, the term “51st state” in American politics is used in relation to states experiencing strong political, economic or cultural influence of the United States. At different times, Great Britain, Israel, Australia were called that, but now, it seems, Ukraine in this capacity has pulled ahead far ahead.

This, of course, did not begin in 2022. In April 2014, then US Vice President Joe Biden , having arrived on a visit to Kyiv, at the negotiations he took a place at the head of the table, which was usually intended for the Ukrainian president.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov then noted this: “Joe Biden met with the Ukrainian leadership, in fact, in the format of the head of state at an internal meeting, he sat at the head of the table, and Ukrainian representatives were located on the sides of him.

In 2014, this was something unusual, but over time, such relationships have become the norm. The same Biden openly stated that at one time he had obtained from Kyiv the removal of Prosecutor General Shokin, who did not suit him: “I said that you do not receive a billion dollars, and I am leaving in six hours, if your Prosecutor General is not fired by that time, you will not get money. And that son of a bitch got fired.”
nine0005

Bankrupt sector on the drum

But the realities of that time are flowers compared to what is happening now. Even the very arrival of Zelensky in the United States has become a symbol of Kyiv’s dependence – he was brought on a US Air Force plane. So, in their time, the president of South Vietnam and the head of Afghanistan arrived in America. And he and the other American projects did not end in anything good.

Militarily, the West has spent tens of billions of dollars on Ukraine, and without external support, the Armed Forces of Ukraine will lose their combat effectiveness in a matter of weeks. nine0005

But it’s not just about fighting. The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine approved the budget for 2023 with a deficit of $38 billion. Moreover, many experts believe that such an assessment is too optimistic.

In other words, we are even talking about bankruptcy, which took place a long time ago. Without constant infusions of the West, the Ukrainian state will cease to exist immediately due to the impossibility of fulfilling at least some obligations to its citizens.

That is, the formula “Ukraine is a kept woman of the United States” is not an insult, but only a statement of fact.
nine0005

“They can overeat on Thanksgiving Day”

By the way, back in 2012, some activists on the Ukrainian segment of the Internet proposed holding a referendum on joining Ukraine to the United States as a state. And in 2015, The Washington Post published a letter from an American reader who proposed a solution to the problem of Ukraine by joining it: “Ukrainians will definitely seize such a chance. Still would! They will be able to overeat on Thanksgiving Day, they, like all US citizens, will be monitored by the NSA, their territory will host the nuclear weapons desired by Kyiv. Yes, and the United States will only benefit – they will receive their own European resort state, placing in it the required number of military bases right at the borders of Russia. nine0005

It seems that both Kislits and Zelensky, and indeed the entire Ukrainian political beau monde, would really be satisfied with the inclusion of Ukraine in the United States.

But supporting Ukraine as an instrument in the fight against Russia is one thing, but being responsible for it is another. This is about the same difference as between using sex services and marrying a prostitute – such a comparison, one must think, is understandable and close to Ukrainian politicians.

So Ukraine is not in danger of becoming either the 51st or the 52nd state of the USA, despite all the posts with flags – Joe Biden did not promise to marry Zelensky.
