Ranking of countries in the world by population – Humanitarian portal

The population is an absolute value expressed in numbers that characterizes the total population of the countries of the world in a certain period of time. One of the main demographic indicators.

World population figures are calculated by the Population Division of the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA) based on statistics and estimates from national institutions and international organizations, which are accumulated by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). UNDESA’s Population Division evaluates historical demographic trends since 1950 to present, and also produces population projections up to 2100. These estimates are based on all available sources of data on the population of the countries of the world and the main demographic components directly related to this indicator (fertility, mortality, international migration). National data sources include information from population and housing censuses in countries and regions over the past decade, information on birth and death registration, demographic and health surveys of the population, migration registers and other administrative sources of statistics. In addition to national data sources, international estimates are taken into account from the following sources: estimates of international migration flows and stocks of persons of foreign origin from the UN DESA Global Migration Database, statistics on refugees and displaced persons of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), estimated time series of infant and child mortality received from the United Nations Interagency Agency for Child Mortality Estimation (UN IGME), various series of international estimates prepared by international and regional organizations and academic research institutes. Population data from all sources are evaluated for completeness, accuracy, and consistency and adjusted as necessary.

The total population of the planet is constantly increasing, although its dynamics varies significantly in different countries (see Ranking of countries in the world by population growth rate). According to UNFPA estimates, the total population of the planet exceeded the following: 90,003

  • 1 billion in 1820.
  • 2 billion – in 1927.
  • 3 billion in 1960.
  • 4 billion in 1974.
  • 5 billion – July 1987 years old.
  • 6 billion – in October 1999.
  • 7 billion – in October 2011.
  • 8 billion – in November 2022.

According to the current forecast, if the current dynamics of growth and decline in world population does not change significantly, then the milestone of 10 billion people will be overcome around 2050. Half of global population growth between now and 2050 is expected to come from just nine countries: India, Nigeria, Pakistan, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Indonesia, Egypt and the United States of America (in descending order). At the same time, the population of African countries is likely to double, while in Europe it is likely to decrease markedly.

Data on the population in the countries of the world are published annually in a special report of the United Nations “World Population Prospects” and are used in international demographic studies. Population figures are updated annually, but UN data reports tend to be one to two years late, as they require international comparison after the release of the data by national statistical offices.

Former Ukrainian Finance Minister Natalia Jaresko has become Executive Director of the Puerto Rico Financial Management and Control Board.

EPA/MACIEJ KULCZYNSKI

Moscow, March 24 – Vesti.Ekonomika. Former Finance Minister of Ukraine Natalia Yaresko has become the Executive Director of the Puerto Rico Financial Management and Control Board.

“I am honored to accept a new position whose primary mission is to put Puerto Rico back on the path to financial stability. On March 22, 2017, I was appointed Executive Director (CEO) of the Puerto Rico Financial Management and with the Puerto Rico Control, Governance and Economic Stability Act (PROMESA),” she wrote on her Facebook page (banned in the Russian Federation).

PROMESA, a federal law passed by the US Congress and effective in June 2016, provides for the creation of a board to oversee, debt restructuring, and accelerated approval procedures for urgent infrastructure projects.

The Council’s primary task is to evaluate and approve the Puerto Rico government’s annual budget and financial stability plan, and to promote debt restructuring, Jaresko said.

“As Executive Director of the Board, I will be responsible for developing the strategy and overseeing its implementation, while engaging with all stakeholders, in particular the public and private sectors in the US and Puerto Rico, the media, the public,” she wrote. .

Jaresko has signed a four-year work contract, writes El Nuevo Dia, a Puerto Rican newspaper, citing a report by Council President José Carrión. She will be involved in maintaining the financial stability of Puerto Rico and attracting foreign investment. Yaresko’s annual salary will be $625,000, excluding compensation.

Yaresko will live and work in Ukraine for several more months, only coming to Puerto Rico from time to time. By the summer, it is expected that she will begin to work permanently on the island.

“I will continue my work to develop value-based leadership in Ukraine as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Aspen Institute Kyiv. I also remain a member of the Advisory Board of the Lviv Business School of the Ukrainian Catholic University and an honorary non-resident member of the Atlantic Council,” – said the former – Minister of Finance of Ukraine.

“Every day for the past 25 years I have given to Ukraine, working for its benefit. I will continue to fully support it,” she stressed.

Yaresko headed the Ministry of Finance of Ukraine from 2014 to 2016

Natalia Yaresko was born in 1965 in the USA, in a family of immigrants from Ukraine. In 1987, she received a bachelor of science degree from the private DePaul University (Chicago, Illinois) in accounting, in 1989 she received a master’s degree in public administration from the School of Government. Kennedy at Harvard University.

Jaresko later became an Economic Affairs Officer in the Soviet Union Division, Europe and Canada Department of the US Department of State.

In 1992 she returned to Ukraine and headed the economic department at the US Embassy in Kyiv.

In 1995 Jaresko joined the Western NIS Enterprise Fund (WNISEF), a private equity fund for small and medium-sized businesses, as a regional investment manager. In 2001, she became the head of WNISEF. In 2006, Natalia Yaresko founded the management company Horizon Capital.

Jaresko was a member of the Foreign Investment Advisory Council under President Viktor Yushchenko and the advisory committee of the Ukrainian Foreign Investment Promotion Center under the Cabinet of Ministers.

On December 2, 2014, President Petro Poroshenko signed a decree granting Jaresko citizenship of Ukraine.
