Los Reyes

Estos nueve municipios tendrán entregas de regalos y fiestas de Reyes

La celebración del Día de los Tres Santos Reyes es una tradición de origen cristiano, que en Puerto Rico data, al menos, desde hace más de un siglo y en la que se conmemora la adoración que hicieron Melchor, Gaspar y Baltasar a la natividad de Jesucristo.

En Puerto Rico, varios municipios conmemoran y celebran esta festividad. Les presentamos a continuación las actividades familiares anunciadas para esta semana.

Juana Díaz

• La 39 Caravana Nacional de los Reyes Magos de Juana Díaz dará inicio a las 10:00 a.m. del viernes, 6 de enero con el tradicional desfile desde la Casa Museo de los Santos Reyes hasta la plaza pública Román Baldorioty de Castro de ese municipio. Luego, se realizará la proclamación de profecías y la celebración eucarística presidida por el Obispo de la diócesis de Ponce, Rubén González Medina. El programa de actividades incluye la participación de 140 artesanos y una presentación artística, que incluye a Herminio de Jesús y el grupo Plenéalo.

Guayama

• Mañana miércoles, 4 de enero, las comunidades de Guayama celebrarán su segundo día de la Fiesta de Reyes. El recorrido finalizará en la plaza pública con un espectáculo del payaso Remi, a las 4:00 p. m. Habrá también casa de brincos, algodón, palomitas de maíz y un sorteo de regalos, contó el alcalde O’brain Vázquez Molina.

Toa Alta

• El municipio de Toa Alta hará entrega de juguetes mañana 4 de enero, entre 10:00 a.m. a 12:00 p.m., a modo de servicarro en una actividad organizada en el estacionamiento del Coliseo Lauro Dávila. “Los niños escogerán el juguete de su predilección entre educativos, deportivos y de entretenimiento”, anticipó el alcalde Clemente “Chito” Agosto.

Vega Alta

• La actividad de Reyes se llevará a cabo detrás del Centro de Gobierno Municipal entre 9:00 a.m. y 3:00 p.m. y contará con oportunidad de fotos con los Tres Reyes Magos para las primeras 200 familias que lleguen. Se obsequiarán bultos para el regreso a clases. Habrá desfile de princesas por la Escuela de Bellas Artes municipal, personajes infantiles, casas de brinco, algodón, pizza y popcorn para los primeros 300 niños, contó la alcaldesa María M. Vega Pagán.

Caguas

• La Promesa a los Tres Santos Reyes se celebrará el próximo miércoles, 4 de enero de 2023 a partir de las 6:30 p.m. frente a las escalinatas de la Catedral Dulce Nombre de Jesús. Para el festejo se levanta un altar con flores y se hacen cantos de promesa mediante aguinaldos (decimillas) en agradecimiento o petición a los Magos de Oriente con la esperanza de que se realice un milagro. Los asistentes escriben sus peticiones en un papel donde expresan sus promesas y estas son colocadas en el altar. Para esta edición la participación artística estará a cargo de los Reyes del Turabo, Chabela Rodríguez, Guersom Báez, niñas y niños trovadores de Caguas y la agrupación Ecolaurel.

San Juan

• La Oficina del Gobernador celebrará el evento ‘Reyando pal’ Choli’ que se llevará a cabo el jueves, 5 de enero de 2023, víspera del Día de Reyes, con un espectáculo artístico libre de costo para todas las familias en Puerto Rico, anunció el gobernador Pedro Pierluisi. Para participar del evento, que será desde las 11:00 a.m. hasta las 5:00 p.m., se deberán conseguir boletos en Ticketera. Las puertas del Coliseo abrirán a la 1:30 de la tarde para las presentaciones de DJ King Arthur y Atención Atención, informó el primer ejecutivo en comunicado de prensa.

Canóvanas

• En Canóvanas, la fiesta de Reyes y entrega de regalos se llevará a cabo este domingo, 8 de enero de 9:00 a.m. a las 2:00 p.m. en la Plaza de Recreo Prof. Juan Arroyo Salamán, anunció la alcaldesa Lornna Soto Villanueva. Como parte del programa artístico, participarán Shabum, el Circo Acirc, el Show de Remi, Nino y su Mundo Musical y el Show de Puerto Rico Gana.

Barranquitas

• La organización Salud Integral de la Montaña, Inc. celebra, este 4 de enero, la llegada de los Tres Reyes Magos y la entrega de regalos en sus centros en Barranquitas, Naranjito, Corozal, Orocovis, Toa Alta, Comerío y Bayamón, anunciaron mediante comunicado de prensa.

Naranjito

• El próximo miércoles, 4 de enero de 2023, la plaza pública del municipio de Naranjito se convertirá en “un espacio divertido y ameno para celebrar su Fiesta de Reyes con las familias naranjiteñas y visitantes”, se indicó un comunicado de prensa. La actividad se llevará a cabo entre 10:00 a.m. y 2:00 p.m. y contará con una entrega de regalos por los Tres Reyes Magos, Mini Circo, show con personajes de la película Encanto y juegos interactivos “para el deleite de los que asistan. Además, habrá refrigerios, diferentes casas de brincos y muchas otras atracciones entretenidas”.

Carnival in Las Palmas
The exact dates of this celebration vary from year to year, but the main carnival celebrations always last from three weeks to a month. One of the interesting events is La Noche de la Sabana, a festive evening in which people having fun put on only one sheet. Then a competition is held here, during which the Queen of the Carnival is chosen. Elections take place in a grand ceremony. The queen of the carnival among children is also chosen. As for Philips, I have already mentioned that Lopez Royo advised us then, or rather, recommended to ignore this contract and start recording at the Barclay company, saying that we would not have any problems. My contract with Barclay, instead of signing with Philips, is an empty ploy that prevented me from paying attention in time to how insignificant Dorotheo’s advice was. nine0008

Going back to the years we’re talking about, I had a valid contract with Ispavox. Among other conditions, the contract contained two such that, to make it easier to understand, let’s call it this way: “quantity” and “time”. The first condition concerned the number of discs that I had to record, collaborating exclusively with Ispavox. The second condition, just as important as the previous one, determined the time during which I was attached again to Ispavox as the only company that recorded me. At the time that what I’m talking about happened, the first of these two conditions, that is, “quantity”, was fulfilled in full, because I recorded much more discs than the contract stipulated. However, for the fulfillment of the second condition, there were still several months of my belonging to Ispavox. And no one else! Whether I recorded or not, as an artist I continued to belong to Ispavox, and during that time, under no circumstances could I collaborate with any other record label. nine0008

Before signing with EMI, we had a meeting. A very long meeting in the Bermudez office on the Gran Via. It was attended by Paco Bermudez, Paco Gordillo, Dorotheo López Royo and myself. It was López Royo who most of all insisted that we accept the new offer and forget about Ispavox. Almost the same thing he advised us to do some time ago regarding my contract with Philips. But I didn’t understand it then. Probably because my contract with Eddie Barclay did not show the full evidence of how frivolous Dorotheo’s advice was. Let’s get back to the meeting. López Royo said that, although the time before the end of the contract had not yet expired, it was still no less obvious that I had recorded many more discs than the corresponding quantity condition stipulated. Bermudez was not far behind in his desire to accept EMP’s offer and forget about Ispavox. Even Paco Gordillo seemed to agree. Although this last one (I thought I knew him the best of the three) didn’t seem very sure. He was, as it were, between two fires. And that alone should have made me anxious. nine0008

A person, especially if he is young, when faced with a legislative system in which he is simply lost, hears what he wants to hear. In the topic of legislation, I counted on Lopez Royo, and he was obliged to give me the right advice. Bermudez, too, although to a lesser extent, had a fair amount of experience dealing with these articles and contracts. How could I suspect that my own lawyer was playing a double game with me? If it weren’t for José Luis Ducasse, I would have found out about everything in the courtroom before this story ended, and I would have been completely defenseless. A person, young or old, always tends to do what he thinks is best for himself, what attracts him economically or in terms of promotion. And in this last one, the songs sung to me, my former lawyer, sounded to me like heavenly music. A normal person, which I suppose I am, usually weighs the pros and cons and listens to those who, in theory, want only the best for him. Theoretically it is. The end result is that everyone, one by one, succumbs to this idea of ​​López Royo to the point where I start to think that if my train with the EMI offer leaves, I will be almost an idiot. This new EMI offering wasn’t just good, it was fabulous. nine0008

It would be almost unmistakable to say that I was really set up at that meeting. However, I must confess that all the time I had some faint feeling that, after all, we were wrong in something, that everything smelled of something bad. My instinct told me that somewhere there was a trap. But even here we are faced with the factor of youth and lack of experience, I was not able to resist all this with due strength. That’s what Dorotheo was counting on when he told me stories about how we wouldn’t have any problems with Ispavox. At that ill-fated meeting, I allowed myself to give in, but something in me, I repeat, told me that all this would come back to me. nine0008

Unfortunately, and in view of the fact that the people on whom I so relied did not doubt the correctness of their actions, time proved me right. It happened when I recorded the disc “Digan lo que digan” at a new recording studio. EMI was in a rush to release my new CD as soon as possible. They wanted to capitalize on the huge surge in popularity of my songs at the time and my name, which was partly due to the fact that my name was already known everywhere, both in the national market and abroad. Whatever the case, I didn’t fulfill my contract with Ispavox by recording the disc on another label, even though the time-limit clause that still tied me to my old record label was still far from over. nine0008

Ispavox sued me.

If it were not for the resolute and revealed to me the appearance of José Luis Ducas, the judge who was supposed to bring me to court, but who was imbued with my honesty; and, why not, God himself, who always leads me by the hand, we would not write these Memoirs now. It was God’s will that a young intern, a lawyer with whom I had had very little or almost no direct contact, worked in that Dorotheo law office. Here is his name: José Luis Ducasse. According to José Luis himself, having learned about the machinations of Lopez Royo and seeing me so young, so absent-minded and so little understanding of legislative matters, out of sympathy for me, being an impeccably honest man, he decided to intervene and prevent this injustice that was being committed against me, taking advantage of my inexperience. At the present moment, that is, now, when I tell you all this, José Luis Ducasse continues to be my lawyer. He has been since then. He took over the reins of my defense in his own hands at the trial that drew near. To do this, one had to be an extremely honest person, and José Luis, undertaking to play this game, staked everything on one card. On one card, which, in general, did not promise to be winning. He was about to get married, and it would have been much easier for him to become blind, dumb and deaf, and thus be peacefully in López Royo’s office. However, he chose something else – one that put him in confrontation with his boss and, consequently, led to the loss of a permanent job. Luckily for me, José Luis is a straight man, and he decided he shouldn’t have been in that comedy. And he could not allow, knowing about the tales that his then boss told me, that the storytellers took up. nine0008

From the very beginning, when he undertook to defend me, he, José Luis Ducasse, was extremely frank with me. He said that before us is a fait accompli. That this business can cost me, without exaggeration, the inability to record for many years. He told me without any ceremony or comforting words that it would be very, very difficult for us to win that trial. Worse, it looked more like we were going to lose it. He was so frank with me and presented everything to me in such a black color that I immediately went straight to the church of Jesus Medinaceli. nine0008

The first thing José Luis did was to work out a strategy for my behavior in court, what it should be like in this case, how I should present myself before the judge. I could protect myself if I spoke the truth and did not seek any excuses, and, moreover, would not deny the facts that were imputed to me, and would always admit them. One would think that this kind of defense was not a defense at all and nothing like that. It could be, but it’s not necessary. Because that, that was the thing that wouldn’t end me forever. And especially that I have to be very modest. To keep everything very modest. No noise, and most importantly – no scenes. nine0008

To begin with, José Luis advised me to appear before the court in the most modest manner possible. And I did it in such a way that nothing in my behavior, in clothes, in the manner of speaking would ever create the impression that I felt like a famous person and boasted that I was an artist, a celebrity. Jose Luis literally said the following: “At that time in Spain you were the most famous artist, and you had to do the impossible so that the judge would not think for a minute that you, because of your fame, considered yourself invulnerable.” I followed José Luis’s instructions very precisely. I did not allow the presence of photographers near me, neither at the entrance to the courthouse, nor in the corridors during my visit, nor in the court itself, nor at the exit. I did not make a single statement other than that I gave evidence to the judge. To be honest, for this I had to resort to many, many things. Because the trial is an event, and no one was going to refuse reporting or photography, not to mention some of my words. There were none. My words and my statements were addressed only to the judge. nine0008

Thus, when the judge, showing me the cover of the EMI disc, asked me if I recognized that photo as mine, I not only told him that yes, I admit it, but also went even further and confessed: “Your Honor, I not only admit that this is my photograph, but I also posed for it, knowing very well what it is for. I admitted that I went to Paris specifically to pose for this photo. In my opinion, José Luis Ducasse also believes that this was exactly the case, at that interrogation, perfectly preserved in the documents, the judge, despite all these quite reasonable doubts, noted that I was mistaken because of my own gullibility and that I admitted his guilt. The judge also found out who the real culprits were. But there was nothing to be done. In my case, I was the only one to blame. And point. Here are the judge’s questions and my answers:

Judge: Senor Martos Sanchez, did you pose and take this photo in Paris knowing that it would be the cover of the disc? For the court, I was an ordinary person with my first and last name written on the birth certificate. And there was no RN or any other artistic names that would have significance. As José Luis explained to me, I was an ordinary defendant, or rather, I was a defendant whose name was Rafael Martos Sanchez. That’s what the judge called me.

Judge: And can the court find out why you did it?

That was the main content of my testimony. It was a phenomenal dispersal of the entire judiciary from all sides, after which the judge asked Dukassa and me to go to his office.

The judge told me that I made a great impression on him (I also noticed this, although at first he was not disposed towards me), that my sincerity seemed to him exemplary, and he perfectly understood that someone took advantage of my youth and ignorance of the laws to pull me into the story. He added that despite everything said before, I had not fulfilled one of the main conditions of the contract and that, therefore, although his sympathies were on my side, the law was on the side of Ispavox. So, the verdict was against us, although the judge left open the possibility of a reconciliation between the two parties and said that if we could reach an agreement, he would admit it. nine0008

First, Espavox demanded 80 million pesetas from me as compensation for the damages (80 million pesetas at the time! I didn’t have any, of course) and 15 years of a contract without the right to record on any other record company. For me, this meant tying myself to Ispavox for life, with all the ensuing consequences.

In spite of this, I went to Buenos Aires, where my other big tour of Latin America began. Enough has already been said about how I traveled with these decrees preventing me from leaving, as with the sword of Damocles hanging over my head and my pocket, and always with a mandatory and excessive fee if I had to travel from one country to another. . nine0008

One fine day, while in Santiago de Chile, I stood alone before myself and decided to put an end to this problem once and for all. And in nothing to yield, because there was nothing to yield. At first they deceived me, and only then I made a mistake, but I paid in full for this mistake of mine. And received nothing in return.
