Descubre 7 de las bellezas naturales de Puerto Rico

Uno de los destinos más deseados por viajeros de muchos lugares es el archipiélago de Puerto Rico. Este territorio que forma parte oficial de los Estados Unidos de Norteamérica se encuentra al noroeste del Mar Caribe, su territorio está conformado por la Isla Mayor de puerto rico, las Antillas Mayores y una variedad de islas más pequeñas y cayos. Luego de la colonización española esta isla fue parte de la corona hasta el año 1.898 cuando luego de la Gerra hispano-estadounidense pasa a ser territorio no incorporado de USA. Los años de dominio español dejó como resultado una población de habla hispana y de fe católica.
En la Isla ya había asentamientos indígenas datados desde 3.000 a.c., la tribu Taína eran los habitantes al momento del descubrimiento español de 1.493, desde sus puertos partían barcos repletos de riquezas de todo tipo hacia España a lo que se debe el actual nombre de la isla que originalmente fue nombrada San Juan Bautista por Colón, de allí el nombre dado a su capital. En 1.508 se funda el primer poblado de la mano de Juan ponce de León nombrado por la corona como primer gobernador de la isla.

Quienes piensan en Puerto Rico quizás solo esperan encontarse con paradisíacas playas, sin embargo, este archipiélago cuenta con diferentes ecosistemas que convergen en un lugar maravilloso para visitar.

1.- Isla Culebra

Culebra es un municipio de Puerto Rico ubicada a 10 km al este de la Isla Grande. Aparte de esta pequeña isla el municipio lo conforman otros cayos cercanos. La playa más famosa de Culebra es Playa Flamenco, considerada una de las 5 playas más hermosas del mundo y es la de mejor acceso de todas, a las demás es posible que sea necesario llegar en bote o carro particular. Para disfrutar en Culebra puedes hacer tours en botes o kayaks a través de sus aguas. El buceo y el snokel son una gran actividad en esta isla y se pueden encontrar instructores y alquiler de equipos. También se puede tomar un bote y hacer pesca. En la bahía de Dakity encontrarás las condiciones perfectas para hacer windsurf. 2.- Lago Guajataca

La serenidad del lago es su mayor atractivo

Este lago está alimentado por el río del mismo nombre y es un embalse artificial creado en 1.929 con la idea de abastecer de agua a las poblaciones al noroeste de Puerto Rico. Hay un campamento a orillas del lago que ha sido el sitio oficial de los Boys Scouts de América, también están disponibles glorietas distribuidas para que los visitantes puedan disfrutar del paisaje. Su fresca temperatura que se ubica generalmente 10 grados por debajo que el resto del archipiélago, ofrece un lugar relajante y tranquilo para liberar el estrés. Entre las actividades que se pueden realizar en el embalse están la pesca, kayaking o paseos en bote.

3.- Isla Palominos

Esta pequeña isla privada de arenas blancas y aguas turquesa se encuentra al este de Puerto Rico tiene un área aproximada de 0,41 km2. Es propiedad de El Conquistador Resort un hotel de la cadena Waldorf Astoria en Puerto Rico. A la isla se llega a través del ferry propiedad del resort y los huéspedes de éste magnífico hotel tienen a su disposición una gran cantidad de actividades acuáticas como buceo y snorkel, kayak, windsurf, paseos en “bananas” y en la orilla paseos a caballo y juegos en la arena.

4.- Bosque Nacional el Yunque

Este Parque Nacional es el único ecosistema de bosque lluvioso tropical ubicado en la Sierra de Luquillo al este de Puerto Rico. Este bosque pluvial de 113,32 km2 representa un gran atractivo para los amantes de los deportes de aventura que visitan el archipiélago. El pico más elevado es El Toro con 1.076 mts y en la extensión del bosque se pueden identificar cerca de 240 especies diferentes de árboles y 20 tipos diferentes de orquídeas. Las actividades más comunes que se llevan a cabo en este hermoso territorio es caminata o hiking, para ésto, se han establecido varias rutas de dificultad variable desde fáciles hasta más retadoras y de diferentes longitudes. Dentro de los límites del bosque se encuentran 2 torres construidas en 1.930 como miradores, Torre Yokahu a 480 mts de altura y Torre monte Britton a 937mts, ambas torres miden al rededor de 21 mts y son un sitio perfecto para tener una vista panorámica de varias partes de la Isla y el Océano.

5.- Laguna Joyuda

Es uno de los dos reservorios naturales de la nación y se ubica en la costa oeste. Está conectada a través de un pequeño canal a al océano y es hogar de varios ecosistemas protejidos. Cuenta con una de las playas más conocidas de Puerto Rico que lleva el mismo nombre de la laguna y del pueblo cercano que las cobija. Este maravilloso lugar se ha convertido en un gran atractivo turístico para los visitantes quienes pueden sentarse a disfrutar del paisaje o de un delicioso paseo en kayak, la pesca es otro gran atractivo que brinda este hermoso espacio natural. Está equipada con paradores para atender cualquier necesidad.

6.- Playa Jobos y el Pozo de Jacinto

En el noroeste de Puerto Rico, en Isabela, encontramos Playa jobos. Las olas de esta playa la hacen un lugar perfecto para los amantes del surf e incluso en sus aguas se han llevado a cabo competencias de esta especialidas y aunque su oleaje como podemos presumir, es bastante fuerte, encontramos también una sección mucho más calma y perfecta para darnos un baño sin riegos. En esta playa encontramos un lugar que alberga una de las leyendas más conocidas de la isla, el Pozo de Jacinto. Esta formación natural cavada por el mar en la roca; la leyenda cuenta que vivía en Isabela Jacinto, un granjero que tenía una vaca preferida en el rebaño a la que llevaba amarrada a su cintura, un día la vaca se acercó mucho al borde el pozo y cayó en él arrastrando con ella a Jacinto. Dice la leyenda que si te acercas al pozo y gritas “Jacinto dame la vaca” la marea sube y ruge rabiosa como si Jacinto dijera “mi vaca no”. Quién sabe? Si visitas el pozo atrévete a gritar y nos cuentas qué pasó!

7.- Río Tanamá

Las formaciones naturales del Río Tanamá y sus deliciosas y tranquilas aguas

Este maravilloso cuerpo de agua se encuentra dentro de una zona silvestre del mismo nombre ubicado en el municipio de Utuado. En el bosque también se hacen actividades de ruta y senderismo pero es en el río en donde encontramos la mayor diversión. En las cuevas rocosas que cubren la corriente del río se hacen espectaculares paseos y se puede disfrutar de “cave-tubing”, esta experiencia te permite recorrer la ruta del río subterráneo en balsa después de haber hecho un recorrido de escalada. Otra destacada actividad es hacer rapell en el Arco de la Vida, una de las formaciones rocosas más famosas del río. Además podrás disfrutar de un chapuzón en las tranquilas aguas de las piscinas naturales.

Bosque El Yunque

Dependiendo del recorrido que elijas, aprenderás sobre la historia y la biología del área, incluidas las más de 240 especies de plantas, como orquídeas arbóreas, helechos gigantes y flores silvestres, y animales que prosperan en el hábitat, especialmente la rana coquí nativa. Navega en kayak y experimenta la bahía bioluminiscente en la Reserva Natural de Laguna Grande en Fajardo.

Bahía bioluminiscente: Laguna Grande 

Explora una de las experiencias naturales nocturnas más maravillosas en kayak a través de la bahía bioluminiscente en la Reserva Natural de Laguna Grande en Fajardo, ubicada en el lado este de la Isla, a una hora en auto de San Juan. 

Navega a través de los densos canales del bosque de manglares bajo las estrellas en un kayak de fondo transparente para dos personas y aprende sobre el ecosistema frágil y único donde el plancton marino microscópico pyrodinium bahamense puede producir luz fluorescente cuando se agita. Aunque podrás jugar con el agua y observar la interacción con el organismo, en un esfuerzo por proteger su hábitat, no se permite nadar en la bahía. Te recogerán y dejarán en tu hotel para una excursión de aproximadamente cinco horas. Hay otras dos bahías bioluminiscentes ubicadas alrededor de Puerto Rico que también vale la pena visitar.

La Parguera 

Si te encantan las aventuras acuáticas, la villa pesquera de La Parguera es la opción perfecta para ti. Durante la visita guiada de seis a ocho horas (dependiendo del paquete que elijas), realizarás un paseo de 25 minutos a través de los manglares, aprenderás sobre el ecosistema natural, te pondrás el snorkel y pasarás 45 minutos nadando. El transporte está incluido y se te proporcionará equipo de snorkel y una cena ligera.

Statue of Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro: how to get there

The statue of Christ the Redeemer is a famous statue that is located on Mount Corcovado in the city Rio de Janeiro. It is considered a symbol of the city and the whole country. Every year more than one and a half million visiting tourists come to the foot of the statue of Christ the Redeemer. A railroad was drawn to the top of the pedestal. It is considered the very first in Brazil and was erected long before the statue. Her role was very big. Materials for the construction of the top of the monument were transported along it. Tourists also get to the statue on the highway that passes through the reserve.

It took architects and sculptors almost nine years to build Christ the Redeemer (1922 -1931). The sketch of the monument was designed by the artist Carlos Oswald. His proposal to make Christ with outstretched arms led to the fact that from a distance the figure looks like an incredibly large cross. All details of the sculpture were made in France and transported to Brazil. A staircase leads to the foot of the statue, which has 220 steps. The small chapel was placed in the thickness of the marble plinth.

The monument was solemnly opened and consecrated on October 12, 1931. The statue was re-consecrated at 1965 year. For 75 years, the statue was repaired twice. In 2000, the night lighting system was upgraded. You can go up to the observation deck with the help of escalators, which were delivered in 2003. Since 2007, Christ the Redeemer has had the status of a wonder of the world.

Unfortunately, the statue was the victim of vandalism in 2010. It had inscriptions in black, which were promptly erased.

Opening hours: the statue of Christ the Redeemer is open for visiting from 8:00 to 18:00 (in summer – until 19:00).

How to get to the statue of Christ the Redeemer

By minibus

Get to the metro station Largo do Machado, there is a parking lot of minibuses nearby, which go directly to the statue.

Pros : passengers from minibuses are allowed to go up the mountain without a queue; the ticket includes the round trip (cost approximately 13 USD).

By electric train

The electric train station is located near the Cosme Velho stop (buses No. 180, 405, 422, 49 run here7, 498, 569, 570, 580, 583, 584). From the bus stop go up and then turn left. A small electric train departs from here and takes you directly to the statue.
