The Pacific Fleet Orchestra took part in the First Far East Mariinsky Festival

6 August 2016, 05:22

VLADIVOSTOK, 6 August. /Corr. TASS Marina Shatilova/. The Orchestra of the Pacific Fleet (TPF) became a participant in the first Far Eastern International Festival “Mariinsky” in Vladivostok. The orchestra gave a charity concert for fleet veterans, residents and guests of the city, and in a few days will become a participant in the closing ceremony of the festival, performing on the summer stage of the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theater. The artistic director of the orchestra, Major Andrey Popov, told a TASS correspondent about this. nine0003

“Today we gave a charity concert. As for the program, since the festival is dedicated to the 125th anniversary of the birth of Sergei Prokofiev, we decided to make up the majority of the program from the works of this truly outstanding composer. Soloists of the Primorsky Stage performed vocal numbers accompanied by the orchestra Mariinsky Theatre, as well as the wonderful pianist Natalya Karnovich,” Popov said, adding that the orchestra will give a second concert on August 10 before the closing ceremony of the festival. nine0003

The Pacific Fleet Orchestra became the only “outside” participant of the festival.

Navy Day was celebrated in Vladivostok with Russian classical music from the Mariinsky Theater

“Given the high level of the festival, our orchestra was honored to take part in this event. The musicians treat the preparation of our concert performances with all responsibility. We hope that this will be the beginning of a great creative collaboration between the Fleet Orchestra and the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre,” the artistic director emphasized. nine0003

The Pacific Fleet has been mentioned more than once at the Mariinsky Festival these days. He provided an unusual venue for a concert by the theater’s symphony orchestra conducted by Valery Gergiev. On July 31, on the Day of the Russian Navy, on the deck of the flagship of the Pacific Fleet, the missile cruiser “Varyag”, which was in parade formation in honor of the holiday of military sailors in the Amur Bay, a 40-minute concert of the Mariinsky Symphony Orchestra took place. Works by Glinka, Tchaikovsky, Lyadov, Dunaevsky were performed.

The concert was broadcast on the big screen on the Sportivnaya embankment in Vladivostok from the side of the warship.

One of the oldest orchestras in the Far East

The Pacific Fleet Orchestra is one of the oldest in the Far East. It traces its history back to April 1860, when a “brass military choir” was created by order of the naval department, with a staff of 50 people. In 1872, the Orchestra of the Eastern Ocean Ports was transferred from Nikolaevsk-on-Amur to Vladivostok. Since then, the entire subsequent life of the musical association is connected with the seaside capital. nine0003

In the early years, the orchestra consisted of sailors and lower ranks. In 1889, a school of musicians was established under the Siberian naval crew – one of the first music schools in the Far East. Its graduates had to serve in the orchestra for six years.

Nowadays, the Pacific Fleet Orchestra has become well known for its performances in the Republic of Korea, China, Japan, the USA and other countries of the Pacific and Indian Oceans.

Mariinsky Festival

The first Mariinsky Far East International Festival opened in Vladivostok on 30 July. During the 12 festival days, residents and guests of the Primorsky Territory will see more than 27 performances, among which are the most famous ballet and opera performances of the Mariinsky Theatre. The soloists of the Mariinsky Theater and performers from Japan, China, Taiwan, South Korea, Mongolia, Germany, Greece, Great Britain, the USA, Puerto Rico came to the festival in Vladivostok. Among the guests are world-famous Puerto Rican soprano Anna Maria Martinez, who sang the title role in Giacomo Puccini’s Madama Butterfly, leading soloists of the Mariinsky Theater Mikhail Vekua, Larisa Dyadkova, Yulia Matochkina and others. nine0003

The ballet poster of the festival is decorated with such names as Diana Vishneva, Uliana Lopatkina, Ekaterina Kondaurova, Oksana Skorik. Hannah O’Neill (Japan), the first soloist of the Paris Opera Ballet Company, winner of the Benois de la danse – 2016 award, will perform the title role in the ballet “Giselle” today. Her partner will be the first soloist of the Mariinsky Theater Xander Parish (Great Britain).

Group “Miramar” (Puerto Rico) — concert March 5, 2020 in Samara

    Add to favorites

    This is a past concert.

On March 5, the Samara Philharmonic will host a concert by Miramar (Puerto Rico). With the help of traditional instruments – piano, guitar, bass, percussion, as well as a string quartet, Miramar artists perfectly capture the essence of the Golden Age of the Cuban bolero, bringing their own unique vision to this genre. For centuries, the bolero was considered a vivid expression of sensuality and passion. Bolero is a romantic music predominantly from Latin America and the Caribbean. And Cuba has the right to be considered the birthplace of the bolero, from where the genre quickly spread, crossed borders and became popular in Mexico. In the 30-60s of the last century, the Mexican composer Agustin Lara wrote many popular boleros, which the classic Mexican trios such as Los Tres Ases and Los Panchos glorified throughout Latin America. Puerto Rico was no exception, where the bolero began to spread from 1930s. Romantic texts that bring the bolero closer to serenades have made this genre a favorite for all walks of life. With the advent of music radio stations, the popularity of the bolero has increased even more. Gradually, even his “signature” sound was formed. Initially, the compositions were performed on three guitars. In the 30s, small orquestas tropicales arose and, finally, large symphony orchestras became interested in the genre. In the second half of the 60s, the popularity of this genre subsided a little. The public was more and more interested in the mixture of genres, which was then called salsa, and then merengue and bachata came into fashion. However, at the end of the 20th – beginning of the 21st century, the bolero experienced a new round of popularity, having received the colors of a romantic ballad. New interpretations of the bolero were often mingled with popular salsa, disco, rock and jazz rhythms. On their first album, Miramar paid homage to Sylvia Rexach, founder of Puerto Rico’s first all-female band.
