A Guide to the Beaches near Fajardo Puerto Rico

The Caribbean is home to some of the most beautiful beaches in the world and whether you’re looking for water activities or just relaxing you’ve come to the right place. There are several beaches near Fajardo Puerto Rico that are perfect for either. Find your favorite beach with our guide below.

Seven Seas Beach 

The Seven Seas Beach is only about five minutes away from The Fajardo Inn Resort. It’s an excellent place for snorkeling: the shallow waters at Seven Seas are swarming with tropical fish, coral, and an abundance of other marine life. 

Offshore reefs help keep the waves down and strong trade winds make it an ideal spot for sailing and windsurfing. Water sports facilities are nearby, along with a string of uninhabited islets that provide a secluded piece of tropical paradise and more fantastic snorkeling.

Playa Colorá

Roughly a 15 to 20-minute walk from the Seven Seas Beach, visitors will discover one of the most unique beaches in the area, Playa Colorá. Sort of a hidden beach, not many people venture here due to the hike it takes to access the beach. Beautiful features include tan sand, large black volcanic rocks, and in true Caribbean fashion, clear blue waters. Swimming is not recommended here as the rip tides and currents are very strong. Playa Escondida

Another “hidden” beach near Fajardo Puerto Rico is Play Escondida. You can reach this beach from both Seven Seas and Playa Colorá, both paths will guide you through mangroves or during low tide you can stick to the shoreline.

If you continue along your path, you’ll end at El Convento Beach, where the governor’s official beach house resides. Endangered sea turtles like to nest in the area so please be respectful of their space. Otherwise, enjoy the white sandy beaches and aquamarine water!

La Monserrate Public Beach

La Monserrate Public Beach is best known around the world as Luquillo Beach.   An emblematic beach for The Caribbean, its photograph has appeared in hundreds of publications as one of the most important tourist attractions in Puerto Rico. 

Located on the northeast coast, within the town of Luquillo, (Route 3, Km 35.4, Luquillo) it’s about 15 minutes away from Fajardo Inn. Aside from excellent bathing waters and sand, visitors from all over the island and tourists from other countries enjoy its well-kept camping facilities. Seven Seas Beach in Fajardo, Puerto Rico

Seven Seas Beach, one of Puerto Rico’s most beautiful and pristine beaches

About 30 miles east of San Juan, in a little town called Fajardo, there’s a beautiful beach called “Seven Seas”.  And it’s not just any beach.  It’s actually a “blue flag” beach (see our first post about Puerto Rico’s Blue Flag Beaches) and it’s one of the nicest beaches in the eastern part of the Island.

Puerto Rico is a tropical island and an archipelago.  So the fact is that it’s surrounded by water.  But that doesn’t mean that every beach in Puerto Rico has been created equal.  Actually, Puerto Rico’s most wonderful beaches are on its north and western coasts, as well as in the island municipalities of Vieques and Culebra.

Seven Seas is a wonderful beach.  The water is crystal clear, the sand is a light tan color and the surf is almost inexistent.  This makes it one of the best beaches in the Caribbean —and in the world— for snorkeling or just kicking back and relaxing.

It also has all the amenities that come with a blue flag beach, like: ample parking, showers, restrooms, lifeguards, safety buoys, concession stands, gazebos recycling bins, blue flag signage and written material.

Right next to Seven Seas there’s a camping area where you can park your Winnebago and spend as long as you like in this island paradise.

Now, here’s a words of advise.  On the easternmost end of the beach the bottom can get a little rocky.  And where there are rocks there are sea urchins.  So watch your step.

And speaking of “to the east of Seven Seas”, about a quarter mile down road 987, on your left hand side, is the Cabezas de San Juan Nature Reserve, a 438 acre park dedicated to the care and preservation of many of Puerto Rico’s natural treasures (see our separate article about Las Cabezas de San Juan).

If you planning a day trip to the Fajardo area the perfect combination might be a morning at Las Cabezas de San Juan and an afternoon at Seven Seas Beach.  If you like this idea call ahead for reservations at Las Cabezas de San Juan.

Like all beaches in Puerto Rico admission to Seven Seas is free, but you will need to pay for parking, lockers and showers.
