Classic Spanish style square with an unusual feature

Dec 2022

This is a rectangular main central square seen in almost every town in Latin America.
It’s the meeting point of locals and families with bars and restaurants around it.
Central point of the square occupies the Cathedral like everywhere else, but here the main star is the red/black Ponce fire station leaning on the Cathedral’s back side.
Many benches to sit around to cool in the tree shade and a nice fountain.

Christmas in the Park

Dec 2022

Most of the buildings around the square have been repaired, rehabbed, etc. and do not show signs of hurricanes(s) and an earthquake. What were historic bank buildings, and are now used for other offices, looked great. In fact the whole centro looks better than it did when I’ve seen it in the past.

Quite a few people walking, but nowhere near the numbers we expected, having spent many Christmases in various cities in Mexico.

Largely abandoned downtown

Jan 2022 • Couples

Businesses seem to have mostly abandoned what may have once been a thriving downtown. Of the merchants that remain, 75% were closed or closing at 3:30 on a Saturday afternoon. There were a few restaurants and coffee shops open. Don’t go out of your way to visit.

PONCE, BEAUTIFUL CITY

Jul 2021 • Family

Ponce is one of the most beautiful cities in Puerto Rico. You can see there El Parque de Bombas, one of the Icons of the city, the Ponce Cathedral, Plaza las Delicias is Beautiful and other great places. La Guncha is a nice place to visit, but since Huracan Maria the area of the Paseo Tablado does not exist.

Lion Fountain is a Highlight

Apr 2021

Ponce’s Plaza Las Delicias is one of those places where you can spend just a short amount of time if you want to quickly see its attractions such as the Parque de Bombas and the Lion Fountain or you could spend a little more time sitting under the trees’ shade. It was especially enjoyable to sit on the bench and talking to friends and family members after dark while watching the colored lights illuminating the Lion Fountain’s water.

Personal property

Apr 2021

It needs a “Face-lift”. Few homeless and mentally ill roaming around this area. Police presence has improved, however, they are stationed in front of the Parque de Bomba (Fire station). They do not walk around as they should for the safety of tourist and guests at different hotels. Finally, Prostitution has been eradicated and drug dealings as well.

Pleasant enough place to visit

Jan 2020

I wouldn’t go out of my way to visit, but if you’re nearby why not stop by. The Firefighting museum is there and the street vendors have some yummy options. Cute row of toysellers on one side of the park.

WHOA SHOCKED IN THE WORST WAY!!! We chose this hotel because it was as much as the ****** resorts (get the resort) and heart of Ponce. We arrived at 4am and informed them prior, during booking, our flight lands early but were not informed of fee. It was fine but courtesy information should be given prior. The elevator is further and hidden when it should be accessible for handicap. The pool is pretty small and right next to the parking lot, no view. When we entered the room the smell of water mold smacks you in the face. The room was so tiny and out of date, I knew right away we were not staying. We couldn’t shower off the airplane funk, as the standing shower floor was stained brown. The bathroom is extremely small as well which made sense why they only had the small standing shower, no tub. The AC was unmanageable and extremely loud like a motor running on no oil. My husband and daughter were exhausted, so we decided to sleep a couple hours before leaving. Sleep was impossible!!! Reminder we came at 4AM. Where the balcony (no sort of pretty view to the heart of Ponce) is you have the back of a building and parking lot with a alley it seems. 5AM a truck was having trouble backing up into something and it was extremely loud. Close to 545AM someone was honking like a maniac in the parking lot of the hotel that echos (which is the view when you open your room door so you hear everything). A little after 615AM workers began construction (which you are not given courtesy information prior after booking) and they were loud. Not only is the work being down loud but the workers are talking and laughing so loud there conversation sound as if they were in our room. We said we couldn’t sleep so there was no point to stay longer. After 7AM we check out and they charged us over $250 for no more than 3 1/2 hours being there. I didn’t have energy to argue because of no sleep. There is no Kidzone like you see in the picture, that is from a little corner of the cafe there and nomore game. We grabbed breakfast at 5hat cafe $17 for waffles and eggs with juice. I truly do not understand the great ratings as the room itself was more like one of those hourly cheap hotels. The colors of the building and certain little areas definitely cause deceiving pictures. We booked Hilton Golf & ****** Resort and wish we did that first. Holiday Inn Resort is the same price or $100 or $200 more just stay somewhere else and much nicer. Don’t do it to yourself if you want to sleep and enjoy Ponce.

My group and I just had the worst experience with this place. The afternoon staff were rude, disrespectful, withheld info about our accommodations, and actively targeted us with differentiated rule enforcement. I get that there’s a lot of anti-tourist sentiment in PR right now because some mainlanders have been complete jerks. And because of that, I spoke with group about being respectful, following all COVID-related rules, and being good guests. We’d been on the island for 6 days before checking into Caribe Hotel with absolutely no problems whatsoever, until we got here. When we arrived before check-in, they allowed us to store our luggage in a meeting room. However, when we went back later post-check in my group was yelled at for going into the room (with the staff member there) because “we can’t have this many people in the room”. This was after my group was yelled at while quietly waiting against a wall in the lobby while I was getting the room keys, being told, “We cannot have this many people in here! You have to leave!”. On our second night there, we came back into the hotel from dinner and the same staff person yelled at the group for forgetting to do the temp check and hand sanitizing. Again, we had no problem doing it – but the staff person’s tone and volume were as if we had intentionally forgotten to do it. Here’s the thing, though – I personally observed many people not wearing masks in the lobby, doing the temp check and sanitizing, and none of them were yelled at like we were. The kicker was the fact that at no point during our stay, until I called on the second night, was I informed that we were provided free breakfast as part of our stay. I even heard the same staff woman tell others that they did, but she never said anything to me. I checked my reservation, and there’s no mention of it, so I figured that we didn’t get it with our rooms. But we did, and we were never informed. That’s breakfast for 20 people that I didn’t have to buy for them elsewhere. The pool water was dirty and cloudy. The rooms looked like they hadn’t been updated since the 60’s. The location was out in the middle of nowhere. The one star is for the morning staff, who were kind and helpful. I would highly recommend NOT staying here.

It is a beautiful hotel with very friendly and helpful staff. The food was delicious and we received great service. We loved the pool area, it was beautiful and well maintained. The beach area, was not so nice. It was kind of rough and I thought dangerous. I was expecting something like the San Juan Hilton beach. Other than that, everything else in the hotel was excellent.

Attractions by region

North America

North America is one of the two continents of America, named in
honor of the Italian explorer Amerigo Vespucci, with a square
surface area 24,221,490 km² (9,351,969 sq mi). It’s in the north

Europe

Europe covers an area of 10,180,000 km² (3,930,000
square miles), stretching from Asia to the Atlantic and from the Mediterranean
seas to the Arctic. European countries annually receive more than 480
million foreign visitors, which is more than half
global market, and 7 of the 10 most visited countries are
European countries.

It’s easy to see why: well-preserved
cultural heritage, open borders and efficient infrastructure
make visiting Europe easy and rarely do you have to travel
more than a few hours before you can dive into a new
culture and immerse yourself in another phrasebook. Although it is the smallest
continent in the world in terms of land area, there are profound differences between
cultures and ways of life in his countries.

Asia

Asia is too vast and varied to be
regarded as a single digestible tourist “destination”.
It is difficult even to determine the boundaries of this continent – from the mountains around the Black
seas in the west to the snowfields of Siberia in the north, in Asia there are more people and
cities than outside.

The highest point in the world, mountain
Everest, located in Asia along the border of Tibet and Nepal at an altitude of 8848
m (29,028 feet) above sea level. Everest is mostly accessible
through Kathmandu. Its lowest point is the Dead Sea, located at
meeting points of Israel, the Palestinian territories and Jordan, the surface
which is located 400 meters (1312 feet) below sea level. The most
Asia’s longest river is the Yangtze, which flows through China for 6,300 km (3
915 miles) from the high Tibetan plateau to Shanghai. His biggest
lake – the Caspian Sea with an area of 386,400 km² (149,200 sq mi),
which is surrounded by several countries of Central Asia.

Africa

There are 55 sovereign countries in Africa – more than on any continent – and
it is the second largest continent both in terms of land area and
population. Africa is washed by the Mediterranean Sea in the north, the Atlantic
ocean to the west, the Red Sea to the northeast, and the Indian Ocean
in the southeast. Africa is a huge continent stretching over
than 8,000 km (5,000 miles) from north to south and 7,500 km (4,800 miles) from
east to west (not counting the islands), and includes many
peoples, skin colors, religions and cultures. Africa has the most
longest river in the world is the 6,650 km (4,100 mi) Nile River flowing from
Burundi to Egypt, and the Congo River in the DRC is the second largest river with
in terms of runoff, as well as the deepest one with a depth of more than 230 m ( 750
feet) in some places. Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania is the tallest
free-standing mountain in the world with a height of 5 890 m (19,340 ft). Lake
Assal in Djibouti is the second lowest point on Earth, the saltiest
a lake outside of Antarctica and one of the hottest places on Earth.

South America

Situated between the Caribbean Sea, the South Pacific and
South Atlantic, South America is the wildest
from both the Americas and the continent in superlatives.

Most
the world’s largest rainforest and the largest river (Amazon), the most
high mountain range outside of Asia (Andes), outlying islands
(Galapagos, Easter Island and Fernando de Noronha), paradise
beaches (for example, in the northeastern region of Brazil), wide deserts.
