Puerto rico honeymoon packages: Puerto Rico Honeymoon Packages, Resorts & DIY Planning Tips

Puerto Rico Honeymoon Packages, Resorts & DIY Planning Tips

The perfect honeymoon destination has great food, fun activities, romantic locations, perfect weather and a good vibe. A Honeymoon destination has to be exciting, exotic, and beautiful, a place where memories can be made and looked back on with fondness for an entire lifetime.

Puerto Rico is just that kind of destination, an island and jungle paradise that still holds all the luxuries of big city travel. Puerto Rico boasts world-renowned beaches, five-star hotels and restaurants, rainforests, historical landmarks, luxury resorts and spas, and so many other fantastic reasons for making this the place you need to visit to make your honeymoon memories.

Recent Puerto Rico Honeymoon Packages

Puerto Rico is a U.S. territory, which means that English is a primary language and U.S. dollars are the country’s currency, these familiarities of home can make traveling to a new country a little less scary. If you want to communicate in another primary language of Puerto Rico, you can brush up on your Spanish and dive into the fantastic culture of the island.

When to visit Puerto Rico

Once you’ve decided to visit Puerto Rico, you’ll want to choose the perfect time of year. Ideally, a honeymoon comes right after your wedding, but it can make sense to wait if you’re looking for the most magical time to visit the island.

The best time of year depends on what is important to you personally. Winter in Puerto Rico contains easily the best weather, ranging from high 60’s to low 80’s at the peak of the day’s heat. This is also the best surf season, so if you and your new spouse like to ride the waves, you may seriously want to consider a winter trip. I was able to find some insanely cheap flights in February and booked on a whim one year. But the great weather and start of surf season is also the reason that winter is a heavy tourist season for the island, it’s not the most ideal in terms of crowds and longer waits at the best restaurants and other popular locations.

Spring gets warmer weather but fewer tourists, crowds are less concentrated, reservations are easier to make, and it’s not yet hot enough to be uncomfortable. Spring is also the least rainy time of the year which makes for great beach days in the sunshine.

Summer brings rain and the beginning of hurricane season, flights to Puerto Rico will be cheaper at this time of year but you’ll also meet the hottest times of year on the island and you may have to schedule plans around the rain. If you plan a vacation during this time, I highly recommend getting a few travel insurance quotes in case you are unable to make your trip due to a hurricane.

Fall in Puerto Rico is cooler than summer by far and tourists are at the lowest percentage during this time of year. September and October usually offer the most affordable airfare and hotel stays of the year; the discount travel accommodations, pleasant weather, and lack of tourist crowds can make Fall the most ideal time of year to visit Puerto Rico.

Staying in San Juan

No matter what time of year you decide on, you’ll want to bring plenty of swimsuits and sunscreen to enjoy the gorgeous beaches that Puerto Rico offers.

One such beach, called Condado Beach, can be found in San Juan along the north-eastern coast of the island. Condado Beach is known by locals as a tourist beach, and for good reason, it has some of the best resorts and a true island vibe. Condado Beach is a place any visitor will want to put on their list of must-see locations while in Puerto Rico. The city of San Juan also offers some seriously interesting attractions and beautiful scenery, along with amazing options for hotels and resorts.

If you’re looking for a place to stay in San Juan that is cozy, romantic, and that embraces the incredible history of the island, you might check out Hotel El Convento; the hotel resides in a former convent whose history dates back to the 17th century. The Hotel El Convento has been renovated into a luxury hotel with a romantic ambiance and a rich, Spanish Colonial style; with offerings such as vacation packages, delicious dinners at their private restaurant, and couple’s massage deals, this is an ideal hotel choice for newlyweds.

San Juan holds a variety of historical buildings and cathedrals, you can easily spend a whole day leisurely walking the streets of Old San Juan with your loved one and marveling at the natural splendor of the city. While you’re enjoying the beauty and history of Old San Juan, you can stop midday at a trendy and intimate little café by the name of Casa Cortes Chocobar. The theme of the café is, you guessed it, chocolate! Nothing says dreamy like sharing a chocolatey treat with your sweetheart in a bright, charming café just off the cobbled street of a quaint, island city.

Vieques

Your vacation couldn’t be complete without a trip to the smaller islands off the coast of the main island. Vieques is a small, picturesque island off the eastern coast of Puerto Rico’s mainland. In addition to gorgeous beaches, Vieques is the perfect place to enjoy the multitude of more adventurous outdoor activities that are available in Puerto Rico. Whatever your adventure style might be, Vieques has variety; jet-skiing, deep-sea fishing, snorkeling, kayaking, and mountain hiking are just a few of the activities you can get into on the island.

Enjoy time indoors or lounging poolside at one of the jaw-dropping resort locations on Vieques, like the renowned W Retreat & Spa. The resort has luxury rooms with ocean views, restaurants, massage services, and you can even sign up for their honeymoon registry and let your wedding guests help pay for your trip as a wedding gift.

To have an ultimate Caribbean experience, book Fabulous Ocean Front Escape for your romantic getaway and run away on a wild tropical adventure.

Culebra

Also off the east coast, is another small island called Culebra. The island of Culebra is one of the larger islands but still a little quieter than some of its counterpart islands, which makes it a glorious destination for newlyweds looking to spend some quiet and quality time with one another. Culebra offers many of the same amenities as Vieques but you’re more likely to find quieter, more private beaches here.

Getting to Culebra can be a challenge if you do not plan for it.  You can fly there on a flight that will be less than $200 RT, but the more affordable way is to take the ferry.  The ferry has its own issues, long lines. To avoid the lines that can take hours to get through, I highly recommend booking an excursion with Culebra Island Adventures.  Not only will they take you kayaking, snorkeling and to the best beach on Culebra, but they will guarantee you a spot on the ferry without waiting in lines to get your ticket.

El Yunque Area

Aside from scenic beaches and splendid coastal cities, Puerto Rico is also home to some of the world’s last remaining rainforests. There is something wildly romantic about exploring the rainforest jungles of El Yunque. Unique from other rainforests, the El Yunque National Forest is easy to access and safe for visitors to travel through. The stunning rainforest will mesmerize you from the moment you set foot into its luscious paradise; waterfalls, tropical birds, and trees that seem to skim the clouds are just a few of the captivating sights to see in El Yunque. Rain does fall gently throughout the day, but it’s soft enough that a small umbrella will keep you dry when it begins and the rain ends quickly enough that you won’t spend more than a few minutes at a time with your umbrella open. In warmer months, you might choose to keep your umbrellas closed altogether and enjoy the refreshing mist of rain.

If you’re feeling more adventurous on your rainforest explorations, you can choose to join a guided tour group for a rainforest excursion that includes zip lining through the rainforest canopies.

Close to El Yunque in Fajardo is another natural wonder called Laguna Grande. Laguna Grande is one of three bioluminescent bays in Puerto Rico, it’s the second largest in the country but is often considered the most beautiful of the three. Take in this spectacular sight on a nighttime sail with your special someone; in the cozy dark of the night, Laguna Grande twinkles simultaneously from its starry skies above and from its glowing waters below. Extraordinary microorganisms that live in the waters of Laguna Grande are caused to glow and light up the water when boats row through them and stir the waters into ripples. Seeking out an official tour guide is recommended as there are rules in place to conserve Laguna Grande’s natural habitat; official charters will ensure that appropriate rules are followed while boating in Laguna Grande to keep the lovely habitat safe while you enjoy its ethereal, glittering waters.

Travelling To Puerto Rico

To start off, a lot of people have asked me if you need a valid passport to enter Puerto Rico from the United States. Flying to Puerto Rico is just like flying domestically inside the United States. US citizens will not need a passport to enter unless you are using Puerto Rico as a port of entry from a different country. If you are indeed coming from a country other than the continental United States, you will have to check the requirements of entry for your country of origin.
If you’re coming from a country outside the USA make sure that your visa is sorted and approved before your Perto Rico honeymoon is due to commence. We always organise our visas through Visa HQ. They’re a reputable company that arranges visas for the vast majority of nationalities. No matter your nationality or travel location, Visa HQ will sort you out!

Since the island of Puerto Rico is considered a US territory, they use the US $/dollar as their currency. Which is perfect if you are in the United States but if not, you will have to convert your money over to the US dollar. It’s always a good idea to carry cash on you in Puerto Rico. There are quite a few places that don’t accept credit/debit cards over there. Travel Insurance

You’d rather not think about all of the things that might go wrong on your romantic getaways in Puerto Rico, but these things can and do happen. We like to think of travel insurance as a safety net, as it’s saved our butts big time on more than one occasion. We had our bags stolen, with passports, cameras and a decent chunk of money, and thanks to travel insurance we were able to replace these valuable items.
I fell ill on our honeymoon and had to spend a week in the hospital, which racked up a huge debt. Without travel insurance, we would have been in thousands of dollars of debt. It’s not worth the risk to travel without insurance! Keep your mind of ease on your weekend getaways in Puerto Rico by travelling smarter and safer with World Nomads travel insurance. These guys are the best in the business with affordable coverage for you and your lover on your Puerto Rico vacation.
