7 Things To Do In Puerto Rico At Night – Updated 2022
Devin
Updated
Puerto Rico has extensive nightlife, especially in cities like San Juan, where music, dancing, and food can be found on a nightly basis. Its wide range of accommodations is enjoyed by tourists as well, including green accommodations and luxury resorts. But Puerto Rico is also known for its bioluminescent bays, which offer truly unique experiences, as well as other night recreational activities you might not have known existed. So if you feel like getting out of your hotel at night, get out and find out what else there is!

Puerto Rico is home to three bioluminescent bays: Laguna Grande (in Fajardo), Mosquito Bay (in Vieques), and La Parguera (in Lajas). Mosquito Bay is the brightest bioluminescent bay, and water sports like kayaking through the glowing waters are some of the most surreal experiences you could ever have.
In Fajardo, there are kayaking tours as well, and there’s also a tour given by Las Cabezas Nature Reserve. This tour consists of a trip to El Faro, the Fajardo lighthouse, to do some epic stargazing on the lighthouse deck and learn about bioluminescence, the bioluminescent organisms in the bay, and light pollution and its effect on bioluminescence. After the presentation, a guide will take you through the mangrove swamp boardwalks, where you are given a long pole to swirl the water with. The less light there is, the more likely you’ll see a glow, trailing your pole. I recommend going on a moonless night.

There are so many places to go at night in San Juan – including bars, clubs, and restaurants. Some of the most popular nocturnal hot spots include the Nuyorican Café (312 Calle San Francisco), Colmado Bar Moreno (365 Tetuan Street), Los Pinos (655 Avenida Ponce de Leon, Miramar), and in particular La Factoria (Calle San Sebastian #148), which made it into the World’s 50 Best Bars and comes highly recommended by tourists and locals, alike. There are also some shops still open at night, and be on the lookout for places with live music – including the streets. Some restaurants, like Carli’s Bistro, and even museums, have musical events.

This neoclassical theater is the second oldest in Puerto Rico, (that’s still used, anyway) and it’s named for one of the city’s nicknames: “The Pearl of the South.” It was destroyed twice in the early 20th century, first by an earthquake and then by a fire, but rebuilt in 1941. They put on a variety of shows, from theater to music and you can check out their upcoming shows on the Ticket Center website, below.

The Plaza las Delicias, or the Plaza of Delights, in Ponce, is all lit up at night – perfect for a solo stroll, a romantic stroll, or a stroll with friends or family – basically, any kind of stroll! Take in the pretty lights, admire the monuments and the Fountain of Lions, and enjoy some ice cream on a park bench. Some places to visit are Parque de Bombas and the Ponce Cathedral, while you’re here. It’s in the center of town, so it’s the perfect place to go, after an evening out.

The organisms of the bioluminescent bays aren’t the only living things that glow in the dark! If you take a night tour of El Yunque, you’ll likely see some bioluminescent insects and mushrooms. A majority of the wildlife in El Yunque is nocturnal, so it’s a whole different experience at night. The rainforest closes at 6:00 pm, so you have to join one of the tour groups for a night hike. Along the way, you’ll likely learn about some of the plants and wildlife, like the coquí frogs, take in the night-views, and maybe even take a dip in Rio Mammies, a river swimming hole. These tours are only offered on certain days, at certain times, so be sure to check out their websites.

Vieques may be a small island, but it has a lot of history, and if you want to do the bioluminescent bay tour, you’ll likely have to stay overnight, so it has a pretty substantial night life. There’s nothing like a good bar and live music, after a day of adventure. There are several great options for this in Vieques, but Fodor’s claims the most popular bar on the island is Duffy’s Esperanza, known for its coveted location, food specials, and live music.

Pull an all-nighter
With all the things to do at night in Puerto Rico, you may be up all night long. No matter what part of the country you’re in, you can bet there’ll be a place to hang out. After all, there are plenty of resorts and luxury Airbnbs to accommodate you at the end. Puerto Rico is a great example of a wonderful night in the Caribbean.

Cute little market
We enjoyed this market. It was much smaller than I expected. Just a few fruit stands and a couple of other shops. Lots of restaurants around the market. There is a bar at each of the 4 corners of this market-they seemed very popular.

Amazing coffee!! Too!
787-562-8483 please call if you have a party of 4 or more and would like to visit during the week! On weekends they are open 12-5pm also I suggest you call ahead of time if you’re planing on coming! I don’t drink alcohol myself, but their coffee is very yummy! They have tables outside and the park right in front has lovely shade! If you are lucky, like myself you can eat a parking nearby. .. otherwise park at the entrance of Old San Juan and do the nice walk over here or take a ride with one of the mini golf carts! Enjoy! It has the very nice old church and hotel El Convento right across the street!

Chill dive bar
We didn’t get drinks with dinner so that we could try another place specifically for drinks on our first night in OSJ (PR in general). We decided on El Batey instead of a nearby super popular cocktail bar. It just sounded like our pace.
It has a nice, moody ambience with the dim lighting and writing all over the walls. There is a room with a pool table and a group of friends were having a good time playing.
We had the room with tables all to ourselves for quite some time. A good size group came in a little before we were about to leave. The next evening we walked by and it was much more packed. I guess the 9 o’clock hour was good timing for us.
The drinks we had were good, a cocktail and a can of guava beer. (See pics)
(Not sure why the description in this listing mentions room for 499 of your friends. Definitely not enough room for that.)

Unique Drinks in a Fun Atmosphere
We love finding fun bars with unique drinks and we hit the jackpot here. From the outside one might walk right by, but once you enter you won’t regret it. The decor being one of a old time barbershop where even the chandelier has old shaving brushes hanging from it. Dim lighting contributes to the feeling of old time speakeasies. Each pf our drinks, chosen from a chalkboard wall menu, were delicious and served in upscale old time glasses. The best part was our service, the young lady who helped us was phenomenal in her friendliness and knowledge. Don’t miss out on this experience on Loiza! To top it off, the prices were the most reasonable we have come across.

Awesome beers and great food. Isn’t it great when you can go to a reliable spot in your neighborhoods? That’s what this spot is all about. An awesome gay adventure to El Yunque
Our excursion with Antonio and Puerto Rico Gay Tours was the highlight of our week. What set it apart from the start was the level of detailed information provided about what to bring (and not bring), how we were traveling, when, where , etc. On the day of the outing, we traveled to a secluded spot and hiked a short hike over rocks and boulders to a waterfall. Being with a group of other gay people was amazing because the environment was super supportive.
Jumping into the waterfall pool and then climbing up into the waterfall was so much fun! Antonio was fun, knowledgeable, and attentive. He made sure we were safe.

Nice bar
The staff is very friendly, the atmosphere is quite good. A nice bar in the Condado area, great place to have fun. The prices are not cheap but they are OK for the Condado area. Cheaper than the Hotels obviously but out of Condado you can find way cheaper drinks.
Other than being painted green this is *not* an Irish bar 🙂 at all. It doesn’t have a large selection of beers, or draft beers. The music you will listen to is Hip Hop.
Its pretty fun and a nice bar but don’t expect an “Irish experience”. Still a good place to hang out in Condado.

The rich diversity of Puerto Rico can be appreciated by visiting San Juan . Once in this city, you will find yourself in the epicenter of the beauty of this area. From one side of the Atlantic Ocean you can see the Spanish fortress of El Morro, it is a symbol of the history of more than one century. Right in front of you are the beaches, from the sands of which modern hotels “grow”, and on the other side, the glass towers of the banking district of Hato Rey await you.
Cold green mountains lie not far from you, they beckon and enchant you, as if they promise to shelter you in small towns. Walking along the narrow streets of the city, guests of the city will be able to appreciate incredibly advantageous offers in shops. Unprecedented discounts on jewelry, such can only be in San Juan. And art lovers are waiting for numerous galleries and museums here.
