YouTube VideoEl Bosque Estatal de Guajataca es uno de los 14 bosques públicos que componen el sistema Bosque del ELA de Puerto Rico. En 1943, el terreno que comprende el bosque fue cedido al pueblo puertorriqueño mediante la transferencia de la Adm de Reconstrucción de PR . Hoy es administrado y operado por el servicio Forestal del Depto de Recursos Naturales. El bosque es uno humedo tropical. Se propicia su uso como reserva de protección para la flora y fauna, conservación de los recursos de agua y suelo, producción de madera y proporcionar un ambiente sano para la recreación pasiva al aire libre. El bosque de Guajataca está localizado en la región noroeste de PR en el municipio de Isabela. El bosque de Guajataca comprende unas 2,357 cuerdas en elevaciones que fluctúan entre los 500 a 1.000 pies al nivel del mar. Está clasificado como bosque húmedo subtropical. La precipitación pluvial promedio anual es de 75 pulgadas; la temperatura varía dese 74 grados F durante los meses de enero y febrero a 79 grados F durante el mes de julio, con un promedio anual de 76.5 F. El suelo está formado por afloraciones de piedra caliza típicas de la topografía cárstica tropical y caracterizado por grupo de colinas subcónicas con pendientes laterales o mogotes separados por depresiones redondeadas o en forma de embudo llamados sumideros. Flora: En este lugar se han identificado 2 asociaciones de vegetación: una en las laderas de los mogotes y otra en los valles o sumideros. La primera asociación comprende el 76% del área total de Bosques dominada por suelos cálcareos y porosos de desague excesivo en las laderas y cimas de las colinas los cuales crean un ambiente xerofítico. Actualmente hay plantaciones de majó. aceitillo, cojoba, teca y caoba hondureña. Fauna: Las áreas naturales del Bosque proveen habitáculos para insectos, arcnidos y centípedos. El murciélago común (Artibeus jamaicensis) es un mamífero más común del Bosque. La avifauna en esta zona es diversa y variada. Comprende cuarenta y cinco especies Las culebras de Puerto Rico 1- Carpientro Las vistas escenicas y su vegetacion tipica son de interés turístico Torre de observación-formadas por estructuras típicas que proveen el lugar adecuado para el disfrute de la familia.

La segunda comprende de 24% restante y se encuentra en las áreas protegidas entre los mogotes donde se forma los valles prevaleciendo condiciones de mayor humedad. Se han reportado un total de 186 especies de árboles de los cuales 156 son nativos, 7 son introducidos y 23 endémicos como la maga (Thespecia grandiflor), ceboruquillo (Thouinia striata) y el cedro macho (Hyronima clusioides). Cincuenta y un de las 85 familias que se encuentran en la Isla están representadas en esta zona. Las tres familiaas más grandes son: Myraceae (12 especies), Lauraceae (11 especies) y Leguminoseae(11 especies).
La boa o culebrón de P R. (Epícrates inornatus), habita y es protegida en este lugar. Está en peligro de extinción.
