Transport

Public transport operates in Tbilisi: metro, buses, minibuses, funicular, cable car, taxi.

Tbilisi Metro

Metro in Tbilisi is an affordable and comfortable way to get around the city, it consists of 2 branches and 22 stations. The Akhmeteli-Varketili line passes through the city center and the railway station. In the same place, at the station, you can make a transfer to another branch.

Station names are voiced and written in 2 languages: English and Georgian.

The fare is 50 tetri ($0.2).

The fare is paid with a Metromoney plastic card, which is sold at the metro ticket office for 2 lari ($0.8). Having replenished, it is used to pay for travel in the subway, bus, minibus, cable car.

Metro hours: 6:00-0:00.

When buying a Metromoney plastic card, a check is issued. If you have a check, you can return the card and get back your 2 GEL, as well as the balance of money from the account.

When using the card to pay for the fare, the city has a system of benefits: within 1.5 hours after paying for the metro or bus fare, a second trip by metro will be free. Which is very convenient if you have to get with a transfer.

A large article with a metro map in Russian is available at link .

Buses

There are 150 bus routes in Tbilisi. On the website: ttc.com.ge you can get acquainted with the stops and route numbers.

The fare is 50 tetri ($0.2). Payment is made at the entrance using an automated cash register and a plastic card or coins, as a result of payment, the passenger receives a ticket. The cash register is designed to receive the exact amount, there is no change.

There is also a 1.5-hour grace period on bus or metro routes.

Buses have a conductor who makes sure that everyone pays the fare, ticket inspectors also check tickets – during the route or at the exit of the bus.

Most bus stops are equipped with an electronic display that displays information about air temperature, time, and the next bus routes. Information on the scoreboard is provided in Georgian and English.

Minibuses

There are a large number of minibuses in Tbilisi, they are easy to identify – these are yellow Ford Transit, designed for 16 seats. The fare in them is 80 tetri ($0.32). The fare is paid, usually at the exit, in cash – settlement with the driver or using a plastic card. When paying with a plastic card, there is a preferential travel system – the second trip during the day will cost 65 tetri ($ 0.26). There are no tickets on the bus. Stops on demand.

Taxi

Several companies and private taxis operate in Tbilisi. There are practically no counters, so the prices are negotiable. The average price range is 0.6 – 1 lari per 1 km ($ 0.24-0.4), waiting – 8-10 lari ($ 3.2-4). Recently, the market for ordering a taxi through applications has developed well. The cheapest and most popular: Maxim, Yandex and Taxify. Prices for all three are very cheap and almost the same. However, it is most convenient to use Yandex-taxi. They have a map in Russian and it is possible to choose the end or starting point on it.
For example, Maxim has a map in Georgian, and if you enter an address in Russian, he does not always find it. Taxify periodically forgets your number and requires you to go through the verification process again. This usually happens after visiting another city (for example, after a tour). And does not show the full cost of the trip. Having ordered a taxi from the center to the airport, he showed me only 10 GEL. I was very happy with such a low price, but I had to pay 18 GEL on the spot. Exactly as much as Yandex-taxi immediately showed.

The average cost of moving around the city center is 2-3 GEL. To the airport 18-20 GEL.
The street is full of private traders. As soon as you stand by the road, a queue of cars will immediately line up in front of you. However, the prices of private owners are twice as expensive. Some especially arrogant ones can bend prices 10 times more expensive, realizing that there are tourists in front of them.

Buy a SIM card with internet right in the arrivals hall and use the apps safely during your whole trip.

Maxim and Yandex Taxi also work in Batumi and Kutaisi.

Cableway

Routes: Rike Park – Narikala Fortress and Chavchavadze Ave – Turtle Lake.

Fare -1 lari ($ 0.4).

Funicular

With the help of the funicular you can climb Mtatsminda mountain , where the amusement park is located and from where a marvelous view of the city opens.

Fare – 2 GEL. The fare is paid using a special card.

Car rental

In Tbilisi, you can rent a car at the airport and in the city itself. However, during the season this can be difficult. Therefore, we recommend ordering a car online from trusted companies. How to choose them read here: Rent a car in Georgia .

Most parking lots in the city are paid – 2-3 lari ($ 0.8-1.2).

Traffic jams often occur on the main streets during rush hour.

The approximate price of 1 liter of petrol is 1.83 lari ($0. 73).

Airport

Tbilisi Airport is located on the outskirts of the city, 3 km from the highway to Sagarejo. It is located in a 2-storey building: 24 check-in desks, a waiting room, several cafes, currency exchange points.

Inquiry: +995 32 310 421

The airport is equipped with paid parking for 355 cars. Cost from 3 GEL.

You can get from the airport to the city by bus number 37 (from 7:00 to 23:00, fare – 50 tetri ($ 0.2)), by taxi (approximate cost – 35-50 lari – ($ 14-20 )) or by train Airport-Tbilisi (8:45 and 18:05, the fare is 55 tetri ($ 0.22)).
