Top 7 natural pools of the Canary Islands: natural spa in turquoise lagoons. Spain in Russian
The Canaries are so much more than just sand and sun. Due to the volcanic origin of the archipelago, many open natural pools with salt water have formed here – “charcos”, as the locals call them.
Each of the seven islands boasts a variety of natural pools of varying sizes and depths to suit any visitor’s taste. Located in the depths of the islands or on the coastline, they attract by their very appearance – the azure colors of crystal clear water. A big plus of these spots is that they are located in the best climatic zone, and you can visit them throughout the year. In most cases, these pools are natural “water parks”, there are also those to which a human hand has been applied. But all of them, without exception, are located in picturesque places where there is everything to relax and enjoy water procedures. nine0003
There are about sixty such relaxation corners in the Canary archipelago, most of them are located on the coasts, and although they are located near the sea, they are reliably protected from it. Each island has excellent conditions for a restorative holiday.
Lanzarote. Piscinas de Punta Mujeres – family charcos with different types of pools.
In the north-east of the island, in an area of almost two kilometers, there are several natural pools of Punta Mujeres. They are close to a fishing village with traditional white houses. The only thing that has been made by human hands here are stairs and areas for sunbathing. The rest is nature as it is! nine0003
By the way, not far from these spots are attractions such as Jameos del Agua and Cueva de Los Verdes. They are like the “icing on the cake” of the northeastern part of Lanzarote.
Fuerteventura. Aguas Verdes – excellent conditions for swimming.
The name of the island has long been synonymous with endless golden beaches. However, if you are traveling in search of other extraordinary experiences, you can easily find them on the west coast of Fuerteventura with its crashing waves. nine0003
In the vicinity of Aguas Verdes, in Betancuria, there are several natural salt water pools. On an area of about six kilometers, many charcos and bays are scattered – a great place to relax.
Gran Canaria. Piscinas de Roque Prieto – clear and calm waters.
In the northern part of the island, there are two artificial pools, ideal for peaceful swimming on the shores of rough seas. They have shallow areas and places with a depth of up to three meters. These “baths” are perfect for relaxing away from the crowds and noise. Through the crystal clear water of the Atlantic, you can see every pebble of the bottom. These salt water pools are also surrounded by an unusual landscape with dense thickets of the famous Canarian banana – sycamore. nine0003
Tenerife. Charco del Viento – pools overlooking the Teide.
Charco del Viento is one of the four natural pools of the island and one of the most beautiful because of the contrast of turquoise water, sandy beaches, rocky areas and hardened lava. Getting here is not difficult at all – there is an asphalt road nearby, there is parking.
La Gomera. Piscina Hermigua is a water paradise surrounded by columns.
Four columns surrounding this pool are truly amazing. The blocks, about thirty meters high, were left over from a loading station built in the 20th century. From here, the inhabitants of the island sent bananas and tomatoes for export.
When the sea is calm, the bay offers breathtaking views of the endless ocean and diving spots. When the waters are raging and it is forbidden to swim in the ocean, it is more than pleasant to swim in the pool protected by the rocky shore. Well, the ocean view doesn’t get any less beautiful. nine0003
La Palma. Charco Azul – Blue Flag Ecolabel Award Winner.
“Blue Lake” – Charco Azul (Charco Azul) on the island of La Palma is also protected from ocean waves and storms. The fame of this place has grown gradually since the moment when it was equipped, and in 2013 the pool was awarded the Blue Flag Ecolabel for the service provided here. In San Andrés y Sauces, one of the most beautiful cities in the north of La Palma, you will find places where the whole family can relax, enjoy the sea and the sun. The landscapes of the city contrast sharply with the lush greenery of the surrounding laurel forests. nine0003
El Hierro. Charco Azul is a whim of volcanoes worthy of the genius of Cesar Manrique.
The bright blue color of the water, surrounded by volcanic “scenery”, makes this pool one of the most extraordinary among all the charcos of the archipelago. No, of course, it was not designed by Cesar Manrique, but the magic of nature here was able to surpass the talent of the famous architect. Charco Azul on El Hierro is one of the most popular and scenic spots on the smallest of the Canary Islands. nine0003
The natural pool, protected by rocks, presents bizarre reliefs left by hot lava and sparkling azure water. The view is breathtaking when a fearless surfer glides across the surface of the water against the crashing waves … And it’s not even surprising that Azul on El Hierro is one of the most photographed places on the island!
