The views and architecture are beautiful, a must see for the city. You can buy Don Q rum, but too bad they don’t offer tastings!
Nice atmosphere, great day or night view. Access roads through Ponce center a bit intimidating and none exiting parking! Need to park in the road sides.

Visit Ponce town, a beautiful one hour drive with your family, a colonial town with a lot of history.
Last time I went, they honored my student ID and got a discount! You’ll want to live here!
Visit the Manor of one of the richest family back in the time… The Serralles Family. Here you will learn more about the history of the family and enjoy an amazing view of the Ponce.
Be sure to get a photo on the courtyard with the hillside and ocean as a backdrop!
A lot of our history was forged here.
Great View

The abandoned remains of this once-thriving hotel loom over the city, waiting for an uncertain future

Abandoned El Ponce Hotel
Road to the hotel
Rising above the city of Ponce are the remains of a place that was once a center of entertainment and luxury: the Ponce Intercontinental Hotel, also known simply as El Ponce. Despite being closed over 40 years ago, the derelict and decrepit structure continues to loom over the city and has even become a national landmark of Puerto Rico of sorts.
The El Ponce Hotel, opened in 1960, was the first modern hotel in the city. American architect William B. Tabler designed it in a functional and futuristic style, with spacious rooms for improved ventilation and lighting. This was facilitated by a good location on the top of the hill of El Viguia, which offered breathtaking views of the Caribbean Sea and the city below.
The hotel has become the most popular holiday destination on the south coast of the island. Hosting everyone from famous artists to international diplomats, it has witnessed the birth of great cultural, social and political events in Puerto Rico. With its success, the city experienced a tourist boom, and El Ponce’s future looked bright.
But, unfortunately, the bright future was not destined to come true. Just 15 years after opening, the hotel closed its doors forever. The true cause remains a mystery to this day, but certain conjectures have persisted for decades. The most popular include labor disputes, high maintenance costs and hard-to-reach locations. The closure of the hotel came as a complete surprise to the residents of the city, as there were no obvious signs of any decline in its short but colorful history.
In October 1985, the building was used as a temporary shelter for survivors of a landslide that destroyed the neighboring village of Mameyes. Over the years, there have been proposals to repurpose the building, but the conversations and plans ended there. An empty building can remain there for a very long time or mysteriously disappear in the blink of an eye.
Good to know
The hotel is right behind the famous tourist attractions of Cruceta Vigia and Castillo Serralles; the road leading to it starts next to the ticket office. Keep in mind that the entrance to the hotel is prohibited, and any entry is illegal.
