Welcome to golfsanjuan, if you are looking for a holiday home to rent in southern spain, you have come to the right place!

    Welcome
to San Juan de los Terreros, Costa de Almeria, Spain
    The
easternmost village of Andalucia and part of the larger
agglomaration of Pulpi. San Juan is considered by many to
be the ‘show town’ of the local council (Ayuntamiento de
Pulpi) A lot of money has been spent over the last 5 years
on a wonderfull promenade which now spans from Playa rabiosa
down to the Calypso hotel. Dotted along the promenade are
childrens play areas and Chiringuoitos which tempt you in
with delicious seafood dishes, tapas or a glass or two of
wine, whilst overlooking the blue waters of the mediterranean.

The local town hall of Pulpi
has one of the strictest planning policies in the region
so there has been nothing built above 3 stories for many
years, this not only makes the place even more attractive
for people from the UK looking to buy or rent but also holds
the town in high esteem with the majority of property owners
who are Spanish nationals from Madrid, Sevilla and other
    cities and towns.

    The
Castle was constructed in the 1764 in the style of a coastal
fort on a headland 150 metres high that stretches out into
the sea, and has been declared to be of Cultural Interest.
The Castle is accessible via a steep narrow road, but is
worth the walk, as from here on a clear day you have splendid
views up the coast as far as Cabo Cope and down the coast
to the Castle of Roldán in Carboneras. Just out to
sea lie two islands; Isla Negra and Isla de Terreros, both
of which have been declared as natural parkland and therefore
    protected.

    The sharp, jagged peaks of
the mountains behind the resort frame the skyline as the
sun goes down. In Pilar de Jaravía at the base of
the Sierra del Aguilón mountains you can see the
ruins of old iron and silver mines and just across the way
    from this a lovely 18
hole golf course, Mundo Aguilon. Further into the mountains
there are old iron and silver mines, and a stiff uphill
walk is worthwhile in order to see the old workings and
ruined villages where the miners lived. The lovely old railway
station of Jaravia is a quaint relic of times gone by but
provides an important rail link to Murcia.

    If
beach holidays are your thing we have some of the best beaches
in Almeria both in San Juan and also close by with lovely
sand, easy parking and safe bathing for all family members.
Snorkeling is always rewarded and there are plenty of fish
to be caught from the rocks.

    Although much quieter in the
winter months, many people from northern Europe own property
here and it is not unusual to see them enjoying the lovely
beach and the warm shallow waters right into November.

    San
Juan de los Terreros, is only 8 kilometres from the busy fishing
port of Aguilas and just 12 kilometres from Pulpi, the capital
of the municipality to which San Juan de los Terreros belongs.
Almeria city is a mere 1 hours drive, whilst Mojacar which
has been popular with the British since the 60’s is only 40km
away along the lovely winding coast road. This road also takes
you through the busier resorts of Garrucha and Vera.
    Almeria
offers the best climate in the whole of Spain, warm and
dry throughout the year, with little rain and a large number
of hours of sun a year. Temperatures reaching no lower than
an average of 15º C in the winter and averages between
    25º C and possible 29º C in the summer. A perfect
    all year round climate.

Sure, ridiculously expensive, but you know that until you show up. The course layout is impressive and the staff is very helpful and friendly. Would like to come back with my friends, but it’s too isolated for such a trip. It will be interesting to see if real estate development comes to fruition – I hope it’s a shame if this amazing course isn’t put to good use.

Private facility only for members and guests staying in Amanera with access

    Feb. 2019 • Traveling alone

I wrote to the golf club and got the answer that it is a private establishment where only members and guests staying at Amanera have access. So I couldn’t play which is sad as the course seems to be very good and closest (10 mins by car) to my hotel. The other closest course is 1 hour by car.

What was once an excellent golf course is now closed to the public. I travel there at least once a month and I still have to see that someone is playing golf. The only way to get to the rough is to buy an overpriced house at their hotel. Just pathetic.

Location hotel, because the toilet fire brothers wait from New York want this place to themselves… it’s too expensive… not worth it to get there and ready for the Amanpuri resort group to take it… what a total and complete waste of a beautiful land path. the only people who play in this hotel come by helicopter

Miss this course at any cost

    dec. 2015 • Family Vacation

I replayed this course in 2011 and thought it was one of the most beautiful places I have ever been, except of course it was in a terrible state and no one took care of it . I played this course the other day expecting conditions to improve after a major upgrade due to Amanpuri resorts resorts. The conditions were still terrible and they ruined the back nine by getting rid of the top 2 holes. Plus the staff were not friendly. There was no one on the field, so it seems to be wide open. But because we weren’t members or staying at the resort, they didn’t let us play. I had to pay a $600 snack under the table to let us play. Also they still have a serious problem with fire ants. They are everywhere and when they climb you, it is very painful.

    Nov. 2015 • Solo travel

My golf buddy and I have been playing this golf course from ca. 2003 – 2013. The course worsened each year, but the location around the ocean was breathtaking. The staff and caddy became friends and were very pleasant. Now that the Amanpuri resort group has taken over they have a re done golf course and it must be amazing. But there’s one thing they don’t get, and that’s the Dominican Republic. The prices they advertised are just ridiculous. Cheaper to live in a pebble beach or Doral. Besides, east of Rio San Juan, THERE IS NOTHING there! It is not in B/F elsewhere. Great course, perhaps a good hotel, should cost limited guests and this will affect the quality of service and food. Nice try but I would like to play elsware golf on the island.

I played this course many years ago; Great location, price not in very good condition. I hoped to play again asked about the status of the course several times. Look at the pictures of things – the fairways show that the grass/turf was laid in the dark…. I think I will be traveling elsewhere. I asked Rice Jones about the field, and close – could never get an answer. We asked about the residential developer field, villas to start at 3.4M. Are you joking; this is DR Ay, was there until november 2014 but that was the best option. Steve

“Nice golf course in South Orange County”

    July 2017

This maintenance golf course is in excellent condition, interesting and refined. It’s worth the effort to change to SJC for that kind of golf experience. I came here with a group of ladies who play golf a lot and we love the course. We heard the restaurant was good so we stopped for some shopping instead of eat on the way home. I have to say that their Steak Salad was great, I shared it with a friend as the portions are pretty big.

GOLF , Food and Beverages but dog poop close to the houses so drive straight like a pro 2021

At a glance this golf course looks beautiful BUT once you play the course you will see that the houses that buffer the course have gates where they can get out to the greens or to let their dogs out and there is a lot of feces to deal with and the employees that groom the course do not come close to cleaning the areas close to the houses SO if you are not a really good golfer you will either hit a ball into their yards and break a window or get dog and coyote feces in the cleats of your golf shoes. Also even though I was willing to pay the fees and rent a cart and equiptment the person that answered the phone said unless you are an athlete and or have had lessons you would not be able to play as you would hold up the other people playing . Saturdays are busy but Sunday is where the weekend warriors come to play along with there foul language because they are not very good and cannot hit the ball straight. The food at the clubhouse is good especially the hamburgers and the pizza and the lady bartender is very nice and helpful during the day and the bartenders at night are sometimes really busy especially on Friday night .

    Nice course and restaurant

    Sept. 2020

The 19th hole was my favorite spot of the day! Actually this course is a really fun and sometimes challenging course to play! The Greens are well maintained and all the staff are super friendly. The views are gorgeous as well. The only thing I’m not too keen on is having the driving range across a busy street. Other than that place is spectacular.

The grill serves really great food and drinks and service is very good too!

    Very Nice Course

    March 2020

While spending a week in nearby Newport Beach, we had the opportunity to play the San Juan Hills Golf Club. The course was in very nice condition and was a challenge especially without any course knowlege. Expect moderate terrain changes and a few dog legs that makes the course interesting and forces the golfer to think about his shots. I’d definately play it again.

Good local place to have a round of golf. There is a good practice range across the street, and afterwards, a cozy restaurant. The place is on the smaller size, which we like, and it has good appetizers and entrees for after golf, and sometimes we are surprised with some good live music as well. Friday evenings are fun, and in the summer you can enjoy sitting outside with a drink.

Las Vegas, Nevada There are some nice views as you wind around the hills. The greens are nice with a lot of tricky breaks. The employees were pleasant and helpful.

The pace of play was slow. The overall conditioning was patchy. The driving range was bad. Matts were old and there were no tees for drivers.

I would play here again but it wouldn’t be my first choice.

    Sept. 2018 • For two

I have breakfast here at least once per week and believe that the clubhouse bar/restaurant is an underrated spot in South OC.

The bar/restaurant at San Juan Hills GC is better than most places in this area. Food is really good and I recommend the following:

    chorizo breakfast tacos
    breakfast burrito

    Greek salad
    wings
    burger

The bartenders (especially Jeff) are fantastically attentive. The waitresses (especially Bri) always remember you and are aWESOME.

The TVs are always on and a great place to watch sports of all kinds. I hesitate to write this because I worry that people who don’t golf will show up and steal my favorite seats.

San Juan Hills GC is a solid restaurant and I highly recommend.

Check to ensure your tee time…

    May 2018 • With friends

I’ll start off by saying this is a very nice public course, and I have played in no less than ten times. The course is always in good shape and while the driving range isn’t adjacent to the clubhouse, it is a very nice facility. The 19th Hole is one of the better ones around…a beautiful facility! All that said…

I play a weekly round of golf with the same group of guys, and we travel to different courses around Orange and Riverside Counties. Each week, a different player is responsible for arranging the location and tee times. A few days ago, we were scheduled to play San Juan. As is our custom, we notify the starter two days prior to the scheduled game with our exact number of golfers and if need be, cancel a tee time as soon as possible (so the course can sell that starting time). This past week, our player who was responsible for that week’s game notified the course we would be cancelling one of the three tee times. The starter said no problem, we will see you Thursday with your two tee times. A day later, another golfer was third able to make it so we requested the tee time if it were still available (we would have three threesomes, rather than two foursomes). The starter informed us that we had no tee times at all…not that all three were cancelled, but that we never had them in the first place! They weren’t able to accommodate us at all so we weren’t able to play. I understand that can happen…once, perhaps. Approximately six months ago, a similar scenario occurred when it was my turn to arrange the weekly game. I didn’t call to cancel at all, rather, I called to confirm it. The starter advised me that they had no tee times for us at all! He explained they had a changeover in a computer system and that was the reason for the snafu. They were able to move some things around and get all twelve of us on the course. Approximately a year previous, the exact thing had happened with our group. The EXACT same thing. I get that things like this can occur, but three times? That’s not a coincidence, that’s either a personnel or computer issue. Furthermore, while most people there are VERY friendly and accommodating, there is one guy in the pro shop…not a vey friendly or helpful guy!

Needless to say, our group will probably not be frequenting this facility any time soon. And that’s a shame, because it is a nice place to play.
