Overview of the Rincon coast 🌊 in the Dominican Republic 🌴

The Rincon coast is located in the eastern part of the Samana Peninsula, which belongs to the Dominican Republic. The village of Las Galeras is the nearest developed settlement. It is here that you can find hotels, shops, bazaars.

Rincon Beach in the Dominican Republic is one of the ten most beautiful beaches in the world. Tourists are attracted by the snow-white coast, turquoise sea waters, picturesque nature and tall green palm trees stretching along the coastline.

More information about the climate, infrastructure and entertainment of the beach can be found on ToursDominicana.

General characteristics

Rincon

Despite the fact that the Rincon is classified as wild beaches, it is very comfortable and it is very comfortable and it is very comfortable suitable for a carefree holiday.

  • The coastline is 5 kilometers long.
  • It is surrounded by hilly peaks and dense exotic vegetation. Here you will not find rescue towers, developed tourist beach infrastructure, hotel complexes along the coast. Nature is in charge, not man.
  • Being in a secluded bay protects vacationers from big waves.
  • Spacious sparsely populated beach is covered with fine and soft light sand.
  • The water is incredibly clean and transparent, the bottom is even, the depth increases gradually.

Such conditions are very convenient for staying with children.

But in some places it is quite deep, so you should be very careful.

The western part of the coast is incredibly picturesque. Here, the small mountain river Canyo Frio flows into the sea. The water here is fresh, but swimming in it is very cold. It is on this stretch of coast that most of the excursion groups stay. Across the river is the Cape Cabron Nature Reserve.

Each section of the beach can be characterized in its own way:

  • at the junction of the river and the sea, algae is often found, which is washed ashore after a storm;
  • in the east and in the center maintain perfect cleanliness, tourists are fascinated by the surrounding landscapes;
  • in the western and central part you can find bars and cafes, rental points for sunbeds and umbrellas;
  • the east side is completely deserted – tour routes do not include a visit to this place.

Part of the territory of the peninsula is occupied by mountain heights. The highest peak reaches a height of 600 m. This location of the beach contributes to the creation of mild climatic conditions.

  • The best time to visit the island is from December to early April. At this time, the weather is favorable. It practically does not rain, the air warms up to +28 degrees during the day on average, and cools down to +19 degrees at night.
  • During the summer, it is very hot and the humidity level rises noticeably. Arriving on the coast early in the morning, you can not notice the traces of bad weather.
  • The hurricane season begins in early summer and continues through mid-autumn. The most dangerous time to be on the island is in September.

When is the best time to visit Rincon Beach?

Favorable weather conditions for a trip develop in winter and in the first half of spring.

Infrastructure

Conditions for recreation on the beach

Rincon is the most secluded and sparsely populated area on the coast of the Dominican Republic. Here you will not find the usual infrastructure that is available in many resorts of the Republic.

Until recently there were no buildings here. Now at the entrance you can see several small cafes and bars where you can eat and drink soft drinks. Sun loungers and parasols are available for rent.

The local population is mainly engaged in fishing and souvenir production. These are the goods that tourists buy. There are several good restaurants near the river. It serves dishes of national cuisines. The most common foods are:

  • seafood;
  • rice;
  • exotic fruits;
  • you should definitely try charcoal bananas.

This place will soon cease to be empty. Construction work is planned here. Territories have been allocated for hotels, luxury villas, catering establishments, retail outlets.

Where is the Rincon beach?

The beach is located on the Samana peninsula.

Beach and active entertainment

Most people go to the beach for passive recreation. Travelers swim, sunbathe, admire the local landscapes. There are several ways to brighten up your pastime:

  • Take beautiful photos of nature or arrange a real photo session. Local locations will allow you to take incredible photos for a girl or couples in love.
  • Most vacationers take their water equipment with them to swim underwater and get to know the underwater world. Calm sea and clear water contribute to this.
  • In the place where the river flows into the sea, you can rent a boat for an unforgettable trip along the river bed. You will be able to look at the dense mangrove vegetation that stretches right above the river. Such a walk will not take more than 40 minutes and will cost an average of $15.

Most people come here early in the morning and leave in the late afternoon. This time will be enough to get to know the coast.

Getting there

Boat on Samana

Rincon beach can be reached in several ways:

  1. On foot. If you go from Las Galeras along the coast, you will have to overcome 5 kilometers. This option is suitable for hikers. The journey will take a little over an hour. The path is laid along the bay, along the way you can admire the opening landscapes.
  2. By rented car, ATV or taxi. Transportation services are provided in any locality in the Dominican Republic. For those who live in Las Galeras, you will have to spend about half an hour on the road. If departing from the city of Samana, then you need to spend 10-15 minutes longer. Travelers staying in Las Terrenas should be prepared to spend about an hour and a half. Independent travelers who go by rented car need to go to the main road and follow the road signs.
  3. On a boat. There are organized sea routes that will take everyone to the beach in the morning. The first tourist group arrives at 9:00 am. In the opposite direction, the boats leave by 4 pm. There are several options to choose from: you can pay for one place or rent a whole boat. In the latter case, the rent will be much more expensive.
  4. As part of an excursion group. Local travel agencies offer vacationers a variety of trips to Dominican attractions, including Rincon Beach. Most often, a visit to the beach is included in the excursion program around the Samana Peninsula. Tourists stay on the island for 1-2 hours. If this option is more attractive, then you should use the services of local guides.
  5. On a horse. A very unusual, but interesting way. In Las Galeras you can rent a horse. The cost and terms of rent may differ for each case, so they are negotiated individually. If you feel confident in the saddle and want to get additional emotions, then you can safely choose this method.

If you’ve been to Rincón Beach, you can share your experience on ToursDominicana.

Rincon Beach on the Samana Peninsula (Dominican Republic) – “Rincon Beach (Samana, Dominican Republic) is designed for meditation and relaxation. How to get there, how much does a pina colada in pineapple cost and why it is not profitable to go without a tour.”

In three trips to the Dominican Republic (this is the fourth) we have never heard of Rincon Beach, which is located on the Samana Peninsula. Somehow, information about the most secluded beach bypassed us. Whales have changed everything! Yes, yes, I wrote everything correctly. It’s the whales! My husband and I decided to go on a whale watching tour and started browsing websites to book a trip. Of all, they chose the most popular company (according to the recommendations of friends and reviews on the Internet) “Dominican.pro”. The choice fell on the excursion “Amanana Rincon with whale watching”. Unfortunately, we did not particularly see the whales (only a small piece of the side and back), but I still consider the tour very successful. One Rincon beach was already worth the money. And in addition to it, we were also shown the bright town of Santa Barbara, the Rio Frio River and the “Devil’s Mouth” (some tour operators call it the “Hell’s Mouth”). I will write about these attractions in other reviews.

★★★ Road to the beach. ★★★

And now let’s go back to the Rincon beach. It is a very calm, secluded place. The locals did not rest with us. There were only tourists. Getting here is a little tricky. We were brought here on a tour by truck. The road is very uneven and you ride like a washboard. Other tourists and staff get here in rented or their own cars. We chatted with a German elderly couple and they drove to the beach in a rented car from a hotel in Santa Barbara. The journey takes approximately 30 minutes. Car parking is located outside the beach. Only staff and tourists with excursions can drive up to the beach itself.

Also, you can walk to the beach if your hotel is located in the province of Las Galeras. There is one hotel from which to go about 5-6 km to the beach.

★★★ What to do?! ★★★

To begin with, we were engaged in the absorption of a delicious lunch, which was included in the tour. For the rest, 10 minutes from the beach they sell coconuts, water, coffee and something else. It is difficult to call it a store, but about 10-15 local residents sit there and there is a small wooden building of this stall (more like a village toilet). On the beach itself there is a wooden bar where they sell pina coladas in pineapple for $8. We didn’t, but others liked it. By the way, if you buy it through a guide before dinner, the cost will be $6. And if you pay in Dominican pesos, it will also be about 5-6 dollars.

Now about inventory. Umbrellas are not provided here, so be sure to apply sun cream. It bakes very hard. In an hour, my back turned crimson, even despite the 50 SPF cream. Shadow is not here either. Free sun loungers are provided for excursions. For the rest, they are paid: $ 2 per sun lounger. Please note that there is quite a scam with sun loungers. If you stopped and left, let’s say for a walk, then when you come back you will have to pay the money again. And no one cares that 5 minutes ago you were lying here. Teens take money. You will not pay – adults will come to understand. And these teenagers are constantly changing. You can pay with one, you go for a walk, and you come and there they are already collecting new tribute.

Do not leave your belongings unattended! Vendors also walk along the beach with rolls, hats, fake cigars and shells.

As you can see, it’s not very profitable to go here by yourself. You won’t lie on the beach for a long time + it will be quite expensive to get here and rent a sun lounger. Do not lie on a towel there, as the tribute collectors will quickly come to deal with you and eventually drive you away (it was like that with us).

But now for the good stuff.

Rincon beach is amazing nature! I want to take a picture on every piece of land and at every palm tree. There are no waves, the ocean is calm, but a little cool. The length of the beach is about 5 km.
