And I must say that we liked the hotel so much that we would have stayed for a longer period, but it was free only for three days, and then packed to capacity and this is not in the peak season!
In this article, I will tell you about the Tuna Bay Island Resort itself, which is located on the large island of Perhentian (Perhentian Besar), the features of the hotel and the beach near it. I want to note that basically all the beaches on the Perhentian Islands do not have their own name, but they are simply called by the name of the hotel, which is located nearby.

Tuna Bay Island Resort: territory
The territory of the hotel is small, like most hotels in the Perhentians: in front of the sea, behind the mountain and the jungle. The hotel has its own small pier where boats moor. There is a restaurant on the beach, it is also a reception, and to the right is a row of houses: a sea view bungalow on the first line and perpendicular to them are houses that go inland. Total 55 bungalows of different categories:

In principle, there is nothing else on the territory of the hotel except houses, a restaurant and tropical vegetation 🙂

Hotel rooms
We lived in a standard room.
Despite the fact that the room category was not sea view, we were lucky with the house – it was the first in a row from the sea and from our veranda we could not only see a piece of the sea, but also hear it 🙂
From our house you can see a piece of the sea 🙂 And at night well heard the sound of the surf
All rooms with a large veranda, two chairs on the veranda, a table and a clothes dryer.
The room has a large and very comfortable bed, bedside tables, a wardrobe with clothes hangers, a mirror, a table. The room even has a safe. But there is no refrigerator, kettle, hair dryer. Of course, every room has air conditioning 🙂
Large bathroom with shower, several towels, including beach towels, which were changed every day. They also provided two bottles of water every day.
The room is very clean and without any living creatures, which is very rare for hotels on such small islands.

Tuna Bay Island Resort beach
Tuna Bay Island Resort beach is simply gorgeous, probably the best beach on the Perhentians along with the PIR hotel beach .
The beach has white-white fine sand, a normal entrance to the water, next to the sea there is a good and still living coral reef and a lot of fish. At low tide, of course, it’s a bit small, but you can swim 🙂
Not far from the coast, a floating platform is installed in the sea, on which it is so pleasant to sunbathe and watch the fish swimming by 🙂
It should be noted that people go to the Perhentian Islands primarily for the chic underwater world – for snorkeling and diving. For me, this is one of the best places in Asia, where good snorkeling is right next to the shore (there was also excellent snorkeling in the Philippines in El Nido and Indonesia, but there the underwater world is NOT near the shore, but you have to go somewhere by boat) .
There are sunbeds and umbrellas on the beach of the hotel (not all hotels in Perhentians have sunbeds)!
In general, in my opinion, the hotel’s beach is ideal for relaxing holidays.
There are sun loungers and umbrellas on the hotel’s beach I specifically chose a hotel with sun loungers on the beach – I don’t like sunbathing on the rug .

Where there is a dark spot in the photo – this is a coral reef In the sea near the beach there is a floating platform on which it is so pleasant to sunbathe and watch the fish Well, I’m sitting there somewhere 🙂
Food, cafe
The hotel restaurant (also known as the reception) is located on the seashore, where breakfast is served (breakfast is included in the room rate). It should be noted that the breakfast is very good by island standards: a rather extensive buffet, only there is little meat 🙁
Tomorrow at the hotel is from 7:15 to 10:00. The restaurant is open from 11:00 to 21:45. The prices in the restaurant are slightly higher than other places on the island where we ate later, but all the dishes are very tasty.
There are alcoholic drinks! (not all cafes on Perhentians sell alcohol, because this is a Muslim island!).

It’s convenient that you can pay for everything before leaving the hotel (they accept cards without a commission!), and after lunch/dinner just tell the house number and sign the bill.

Surroundings of the hotel
In front of the sea, behind the mountains and jungle 🙂 If you go to the right of the hotel, there will be the Suhaila Palace Hotel (it stands right on the sea, there is no beach), this hotel has a small shop with water-snakes -beach amenities, and then hotels Coconut and Cozy Chalet.
By the way, Coconut has a good restaurant right above the sea, we had dinner there a couple of times – delicious 🙂 the prices are lower than in the Tuna Bay Island Resort restaurant, there is no alcohol (not even beer!) But we came with our martini bought in Duty Free in Langkawi, ordered fruit shakes and drank homemade cocktails 🙂
We pass the beach of these hotels, and then the path becomes problematic. It seems that there is a path to the neighboring bay, but I didn’t find it…

But if you go to the left of our hotel, then you will find gorgeous deserted beaches in the bays ahead of you. We pass the Abdul’s Chalet hotel opposite which is also a good reef, we go further along some incomprehensible monumental stairs, pass by the campsite and get to an almost deserted beach near Shark Point.
I must say that we personally did not see sharks there, although we swam more than once, but the tourists we met told us that it was in this place that they saw not only reef sharks, but also turtles.

Before choosing the hotel Tuna Bay Island Resort, and indeed the Perhentian Islands, I advise you to pay attention to some features of the rest in this place:
- The hotel almost does not catch WiFi, more precisely to put it this way – the network is at the reception, but the sites are almost not loaded. The situation is the same in most of the island’s hotels

- At 10 pm everything closes, everyone goes to bed and there is complete silence! So if you are looking for fun and a good beach holiday with snorkeling, then you are not on this island, but, for example, on Koh Lipe or Phi Phi in Thailand
- Please take off your shoes before entering the restaurant / reception. As it turned out, judging by the reviews on the Internet, for some this is a problem … But I still remember Thailand like this, where before entering all the shops, cafes, hotels on the islands you had to take off your shoes …
- Expensive alcohol (in many restaurants on the island they don’t sell it at all)
- On weekends (usually from Friday to Sunday), locals come to the hotel and neighboring hotels to relax
- Rest in Tuna Bay Island Resort quiet, calm, family
- During the low season (approximately from the end of October to February) the hotel closes

Tuna Bay Island Resort and the beach near it is the best place to relax in terms of price-quality ratio in the Perhentian Islands.
