Worth the hike!

Apr 2022

I would highly recommend this hike. It was about 20 minutes through the woods. Lots of exposed roots and some climbing on rocks. I would recommend sneakers, hiking shoes or water shoes. I am a novice hiker and I didn’t find it difficult, just a little tricky. You really need to pay attention to the ground so you don’t trip or hit your head on a branch.
After you get through the woods and hit the beach you can continue quite a ways down the beach. You have to head back towards the woods a bit to go further, but you head right back down towards the beach.
Once you hit the beach it’s really beautiful. Lots of rock formations to explore. I wouldn’t say you should swim, the waves looked rough and there could be powerful under currents. However, there are plenty of places to wade in shallow calm water. We saw lots of people just sitting in the water enjoying the sun and peace.
We didn’t wear our suits and wish we did. Also, bring plenty of water.
We were there in the afternoon. We passed plenty of hikers, but it did not feel crowded. I would highly recommend. Definitely not for children under maybe 9 or 10? Enjoy!

Wonderful views

Nice not too strenuous walk in the forest above the beach. Huge boulders are withstanding the power of waves, part of eroding coast.

Great hike to nice beach.

Mar 2022 • Solo

Drive to Surfers beach parking lot then follow trail. I wore flip-flops and was fine but you have to be careful. I would advise running shoes as rocks are sharp on some parts of the trail which half hour hike. There is shaded areas from the steep hillside. I didn’t bring my chair as you need both hands to maneuver in some spots so backpack is recommended. The beach is nice but the waves were strong and high water so couldn’t go into cave so I’ll probably come back in summer. Some people were swimming however there are always people drowning from undertows or rip currents so I don’t take that chance. You can watch the surfers at surfers beach too.

6/5 Rating!

In my opinion this beach is more beautiful than Flamenco Beach (and Flamenco Beach is beautiful!) It has a very good 30 minute hike to the cave where you can enjoy nature and other eye catching rock formations. At the end of the hike you have the cave that is awesome for photos and to swim in. The waves tend to be a little strong, I would recommend knowing how to swim before going in. Check the forecast as the Cave will not be accessible during high tide or bad weather.

Surfing Beach

Mar 2021

Downhill drive to Survival Beach, lots of trees and vines enhance the appeal of the road. Four wheel drive is best to handle the dirt road with huge pot holes, once you reach the parking area below to enter the beach.

Survival Beach it’s a tricky beach to get to. It’s extremely hard to get there by car, most people get there by walking, but it’s extremely worth it! I recommend not going alone and being prepared to walk and snacks. Visit wisely and do not leave rubbish!

A Walk on the Wild Side

Feb 2020

We took the trail up to Cueva Survival Beach from the end of Surfer’s Beach. Moderate hiking level. We were hiking for half an hour and still didn’t make it to the end. It was getting late and we were getting tired… so we headed back to Surfer’s Beach. Needless to say we didn’t survive the Cueva Survival Beach hike lol. If you’re thinking of checking it out, here are some tips; start early before it gets too hot, wear good shoes, have enough water and snacks. All in all we had a great time and would do it again. It’s a pretty good hike if you’re looking for some exercise and rugged scenery

Beautiful Isolated Beach

Jan 2020

My trip to Survival Beach reminds me of the adage, “there are no shortcuts to any place worth going.” This adventure is well worth the effort getting there. The narrow pathway from the parking area to the beach may be physically challenging for many visitors to navigate the natural obstacles along the way. It’s filled with deep tree roots, eroded areas, overgrowth, rocky outcrops and slippery slopes. At the end of the trail, however, rests a picturesque and an expansive beach with breathtaking views dotted with large boulders and cavernous rock overhangs. Though the surf is rough, there are several nearshore areas that are placid, shallow and safe for playing and sunbathing. Based on my experience, which included several senior citizens in my group, the hike took approximately 30-40 minutes. Actual times will be dependent on the physical ability of each individual. Keep in mind, access to the beach is a hike. It’s more demanding than a walk or stroll. My comments are not intended to discourage visitors, but to prepare them for the rigors they will encounter and to dress appropriately, including most importantly footwear. The natural beauty of the area offers many photo opportunities. If you enjoy adventure and don’t mind hiking, this destination will likely resonate with you. Remember, plan accordingly.

Survival Beach Puerto Rico – Aguadilla, Puerto Rico

Puerto Rico  ⏐  Puerto Rico Beaches  ⏐ Survival & Tabletop Beach – Aguadilla

Giant boulders, crystal clear water, soft honey gold sand, hidden caves, peacefully uncrowded.

It takes a little effort to get to these beaches, but if you’re looking to take a short hike with a great reward, head to Surfer’s Beach and follow the trail to Tabletop and Cueva Survival Beach, located right on the northwest corner of Puerto Rico in the town of Aguadilla.  Although these beaches are not safe for swimming, the landscape certainly puts them on our list of most scenic beaches in Puerto Rico… Survival is undoubtedly the gem of Aguadilla.  If you love photography, Cueva Survival & Tabletop Beach ought to be on your top ten list of places to visit while in Puerto Rico.

The hike keeps the average visitor from visiting, so most likely it will remain a very special “secret” place that only the more adventurous nature lover will get to enjoy.    As visitors continue to visit this hidden beach, we have no doubt that Survivor Beach will be placed on “best beaches” lists across the Caribbean.  Most of the traffic to this beach is during the summer months when local families and groups of local teens crave a beach adventure.   On weekdays from fall to late spring, these beaches are blissfully quiet.  When the conditions are favorable during the winter months, you’ll spot surfers riding the waves at Tabletop & Survival.

The Hike to Tabletop & Survival Beach

The hike to the beaches takes about 20 minutes, for the average person, it is an easy hike.  No sandals, a good pair of sneakers are recommended for safety.  For individuals that may have some mobility challenges, this hike is not recommended, this is a natural trail with no man-made paths or handrails.  You’ll be hiking on a narrow trail going up and downhill.  The branches along the trail can help as handrails, thick tree roots serve as steps.  You’ll want to stop along the way to take in the breathtaking scenery, parts of the trail are shaded by a thick canopy.

Romantics seeking adventure will enjoy this experience.  Once down on the beach, you can walk together and explore the sights, you’ll find little hideaways to steal a kiss and plenty of Instagram-worthy backgrounds for the perfect vacation photo memory.

As your hike ends, a natural stairway with bushes serving as drapes framing a doorway…with a sign that says…Welcome to Paradise!

…yes… wow!… and it gets better

Tabletop is a surfer’s spot, named after the rock formation on the water, once there you’ll see why.  Giant boulders are perfectly scattered on the water and along the shore … you’ll have a magazine-worthy scene just about everywhere you turn.

As you walk around, be sure to have a seat on a boulder to share the magic with your loved ones or friends.  If you take your time, you’ll find small caves and hideaway spots…

As you begin walking along the shore, it will be very tempting to jump in, be aware Tabletop is not a swimming beach, there are no lifeguards around or nearby, every activity you do at this beach, you do at your own risk.   Depending on the tide, you may have to walk over rocks, the tide is higher during the winter, at times it may not be possible or safe to walk over to Survival, please always put your safety first.

If you keep walking east, you’ll get to Cueva Survival Beach.
