It is the only major chain in Puerto Rico, following CineVista’s bankruptcy. The network has expanded to the Dominican Republic, Panama, St. Thomas, Santa Cruz, St. Maarten, St. Kitts, St. Lucia, Antigua, Aruba, Trinidad and Tobago, Guyana and Guadeloupe. [1]

History and expansion
In 2005 Caribbean Cinemas bought the second floor.
CineVista location in Plaza Las Américas after the last company closed; opening under the Caribbean Cinemas brand as the chain’s largest with 17 theaters. In 2007, CineVista also closed on the second floor of the Plaza del Norte before declaring bankruptcy and permanently going out of business; Caribbean Cinemas also decided to buy out the vacant space five years later and re-opened as Caribbean Cinemas in May 2012 with 5 theaters and one in 3D. [2] In October 2016, Caribbean Cinemas announced that the new location and first premium format, named Caribbean Cinemas VIP , will be built in the Puerto Rico Convention Center area with seven theaters and one large premium auditorium which is scheduled to open in 2019. [3] In 2019, Caribbean Cinemas celebrates its 50th anniversary since its founding in 1969. [4]
Digital 3D
In February 2009, Caribbean Cinemas introduced its first digital 3D cinema with Jonas Brothers: 3D concert experience in Plaza las Americas.
More digital 3D films have been shown in most locations over the years, and at least one theater hall has been set aside for this.
Premium Large Format
Caribbean Cinema at San Patricio Plaza in Pueblo Viejo Barrio in Guaynabo
to Las Catalinas Mall, a premium large-screen cinema format. It uses a 4K projector and a Dolby Atmos sound system, delivering 128 audio channels and over 30,000 watts of power to over 60 speakers located throughout the room for 360° sound. In the following months, four more theater halls were refurbished at Plaza las Americas, Plaza del Caribe, Plaza Guaynabo and Barceloneta. After a major refurbishment in 2016, Montehiedra added the CXC, making it the company’s fifth widescreen. [5]
IMAX and 4DX

complete reconstruction. According to the plans, the second floor was to be built for an IMAX theater, which meant that of the 14 screens it had always had since 1996, two had to be combined to meet IMAX theater standards and seat up to 400 people.
