Glamping is made more inclusive and effortless than ever at AutoCamp Joshua Tree, 38 miles outside of Palm Springs and a three-hour drive from Los Angeles. The design and layout of this multitasking camp — which can accommodate family groups and corporate retreats as readily as couples — puts guests front and center amidst the natural wonders and phenomena of the Coachella desert, even while providing creature comforts found at better hotels and practical features like well-appointed kitchenettes with basic cookware, towels and linens, and a fire pit with a grill.

See the World Through a Different Lens as you Connect with Native Peoples

I sat in spellbound reverence, fixed to my rickety wooden chair in a Peruvian Amazon rain forest village. A local shaman welcomed our small group from the riverboat Zephyr to teach us about medicinal plants from the jungle. Then, blowing tobacco smoke from his cupped hands, he framed my body with a smoke shield as he blew it around my face and over my shoulders, all the while chanting his blessing from the forest.

Pico de La Concha route from the center of Marbella

La Concha is a majestic mountain located near the center of Marbella and part of the Natural Sierra de las Nieves National Park (Parque Natural Sierra de las Nieves). The huge mountain range is perfectly visible from many points of Marbella.

The most famous and desirable point of Mount La Concha, which offers stunning panoramic views of the whole of Marbella, Estepona and Gibraltar, is its peak – Pico de la Concha (Pico de la Concha). Pico de la Concha is 1,215 meters above sea level.

Pico de la Concha – the top of the La Concha mountain with steep slopes, it is there that a small observation deck is located, which attracts all lovers of hiking.

Climbing the La Concha peak – a hiking route that runs along mountain paths, ridges and rocky slopes. The ascent can be made at any time of the year. However, we do not recommend climbing the La Concha peak in the rain and after the rain, the mountain paths become slippery, and the route is more dangerous.

La Concha peak can be reached by two routes :

1. Northern route. Passing along the northern slope of the mountain range. This route originates from Istana, which is located 40 minutes from the center of Marbella. Of the two routes, this is the easiest and shortest. Its length is 5.6 kilometers one way.

2. Southern route. Passing along the southern slope of the mountain range. This route originates near the center of Marbella, so it can be reached on foot from Marbella. This route is more difficult, there are a couple of dangerous sections passing through sheer cliffs, where there is only an abyss under you, and in order to stay on your feet, you will have to hold on to safety chains.

In this article, we will tell you about the second – southern hiking route to Pico de la Concha from the center of Marbella.

As already mentioned, the route is difficult, or rather, its second half is difficult and sometimes dangerous, while the first one passes through a mountainous forest belt, where there are wide paths and dense vegetation. The first half of the route can be suitable for walking with children.

Comfortable closed shoes with hard non-slip soles are required for the route. Pants, there are a lot of undersized thorny plants along the way. Jacket and free hands (backpack behind). You need clean drinking water with you, something to eat, you can grab wet wipes, you will probably get your hands dirty, a camera and preferably a phone with a navigator.

The route from the historic center of Marbella is approximately 12.5 kilometers one way. Of which, about 9.3 passes directly through the mountains.

From the historic center of Marbella, approximately 3.2 kilometers before the start of the route. We follow through the bus station, then along Padre Paco Ostos street (Calle Padre Paco Ostos) to the second car ring, then along Conjunto Residencial el Trapiche street (Conjunto Residencial el Trapiche) going all the way up towards Montua, past residential buildings along Chorreadero street, until we will go out to a small car park and an information stand, where all possible routes will be marked.

Continue to the left and a little more along the road to the barrier. If you are driving, you can leave your car here. The only way forward is on foot.

There will be signs along the way, it is almost impossible to get lost.

Walking along this route, you can also visit the observation deck Juanar (Mirador de Juanar) with a height of 1,184 meters above sea level, at first the road is one, then it diverges. You can climb Juanar much faster, and the path is quite easy, suitable as a walk with school-age children. During our ascent, we met a group of schoolchildren, accompanied by two adult men, they ascended just to Juanar.

There are also two paths to the peak of La Concha, almost at the beginning the paths will diverge, and then merge again. One way is about a kilometer shorter than the other, but less convenient. You can navigate by the signs.

We went to the La Concha peak by a long road, and returned by a shorter one, thus having studied both routes.

The first half of the way to the peak of La Concha passed through a forested mountain range, so the way is very convenient and the trail is quite wide

Escalada Puerto Rico, an impressive rocky area where we met several sheer climbers.

The way up is not difficult yet, only silence, fresh air, green trees and thorns. Needless to say – a natural idyll in all its pristine beauty.

Let’s go and wait for those picturesque panoramic views that we read about to begin to open up. And here we have the first panoramas, not yet so straight “Ohhh … Uhhhh!” But still diversifying.

Ahead we see these seemingly impregnable peaks. We look at the navigator in the phone and do not believe that we have to overcome some of them…0013

The clouds are getting closer and the views are more and more beautiful . By the way, other, shorter paths lead to the Juanar observation deck, you can find out about them on the map that was at the beginning of the route.

Here he is Juanar, we admire only from afar.

We turn and go further to the peak of La Concha

The unsurpassed beauty of mountain peaks. You can admire for hours, while taking hundreds of photos

We reach the first really dangerous section. Here you have to work not only with your feet, but also with your hands.

Someone is already returning0013

We overcome a small section of the path, holding on to tight chains, and under our feet there is a cliff

on both sides of the mountain, picturesque panoramic views open up: Marbella, the sea and mountain peaks are in full view. Yes, it was worth going for it!

We continue on our way

We reach a small observation deck near the peak of Lastonar (Pico del Lastonar). The height of Lastonar peak above sea level is 1275 meters. The peak of La Concha is still about an hour away.

Next, it was necessary to overcome another difficult section of the path with tensioned safety chains, and then along the ridge to the end point of the route – La Concha peak.
