El Sabor de Puerto Rico Review

by José A. Estévez, Jr.

Ismael Miranda continued in the 1990s to produce commendable efforts with the aid of top-flight arrangers (Bobby Valentín, Lenny Prieto, Ernesto Sánchez, prolific Ramón Sánchez, Julio Alvarado, and longtime musical director Louis García) and Puerto Rico’s elite sidemen. The ever-versatile Miranda can oscillate from romantic material to swinging salsa with great commmand; among the guilty pleasures are the self-penned “De Rumba Pa’ Bolero,” “Como Locos,” “Por Ti Yo Voy,” “Es Mas,” and “Para Que Nadie Se Entere.” The solid background vocals are contributed by Aldo Matta, top salsa star Domingo Quiñones, Tito Allen, and ex-Batacumbele vocalist Jose Luis “Chegui” Ramos. A great team of professionals to service one of salsa’s all-time legends.

Havana Cafe
“Although the name brings to mind Cuban food, the menu is very diverse. I found
several Puerto Rican entrees and appetizers on the menu. I lived in Puerto Rico for 20
years and I have to say that the food is authentic, moderately priced and the
atmosphere is totally tropical. In addition they have local island vegetables,
coffee and so forth. I was very impressed the first dined and I have been going back on
a weekly basis,”

Ismael Miranda – frwiki.wiki

Ismael Miranda (born in Aguada, Puerto Rico) is a salsa singer and songwriter.

biography

Since childhood, Ismael Miranda wanted to be a musician and at the age of 11 he sang in the young bands “The 4J’s and Little Junior” and “The Class Mates”.

In 1967, when he was only 17 years old, he recorded his first song “Let’s Ball” with Joey Pastrana and his first hit “Rumbon Melon”.
Larry Harlow then hires him as a singer. Together they compose “El Exigente”, a boogaloo (rhythm is in vogue, a mixture of rhythm and blues and Latin American music).

Together with Larry Harlow, Ismael Miranda wrote:

  • Harlow Orchestra presents Ismael Miranda
  • “Electrician”
  • Tributo Arsenio Rodriguez,
  • “Harlows Harem”
  • “Abran Paso”
  • “Oportunidad”

He composed:

  • “La Revolucion”
  • “Guasas”
  • “Arsenio”
  • “El Malecon”
  • “Lamento Cubano”

In 1969 Miranda joined the Fania All Stars on a tour of Europe, Asia and Latin America. In 1973 he founded his band “La Revelacion” and recorded “Así se compone un son” on the Fania label.

Then he was nicknamed “El Niño Bonito de la Salsa” (pretty boy from Salsa).

In the 1970s he performed such hits as “Lupe, Lupe”, “Señor Sereno” and some others.

In the 1980s he founded his own record company, IM, and recorded several boleros with Andy Montañez.

He has recorded a CD of covers of songs by the famous Mexican composer José Alfredo Jiménez in salsa versions.

In 2003 he gave a concert at the famous New York nightclub Copacabana.
