Nice trip!

Jan 2023 • Couples

We stayed in the San Juan area near Isla Verde. Great location and only minutes from the airport! Close proximity to Old San Juan, plenty of restaurants (Metropol & Cafe Bistro) and stores on the strip as well as access to the beach. There’s even a great car rental place nearby. We drove out to the Farjado area to go to Luquillo beach which is about 45-50 minutes away. I’ve been told the western part of the island has more beautiful beaches…next time, as well as El Yunque! All in all it was a nice trip.

Do Pinones! It’s 10 minutes from the airport

Sep 2022

Many good restaurants, bars and places to hang out. It’s close to San Juan and right next to the airport. It’s a must-do even if just to drink a cold beer and chill for an hour or two before or after your flight.

GO TO PINONES

Sep 2022 • Couples

Do yourself a favor and take the ride into pinones. If your off season do it on the weekend as most kiosks will be closed.

Bike rental. There is a place called copi the woman is really unfriendly and the bikes suck (lack of better word) but the trail is amazing. Gorgeous views. Bring bug spray. A lot of it. Watch out for the busted parts of the boardwalk.

The area seemed safe at all times I was there and I had no worries. No Uber signals so you do have to walk (a little) out towards San Juan which also was fairly safe (there’s a path) and we stopped at the ocean lab brewery for a beer and a bite before walking the rest of the way into San Juan. Our preference, we enjoyed the walk . You may not if you don’t like long walks.

Beach is beautiful but not swimable IMO a little rough, and no one was in the water.

Food. Lots of fried foods.

Great place to walk

Aug 2022

I was here back in 2018 and could not remember what spot I went to but I discovered this time around Aug 2022 that this is a very long strip- We went to Dona Olg’s for some food- It was very good. I soon found out the name of the place I was really looking for but will visit again next yr.

Great Vibes and Lots of Local Flavor

Jul 2022

The beach is beautiful but the ocean here has high waves and a strong current so not recommended for swimming. But, it’s definitely a gathering place for the local community with lots of great vibes, music, fun and food. It’s a great place to see and be seen and I highly recommend stopping by.

Super great!

Jun 2022 • Family

Loved the atmosphere, the people, the beach, the food, prices, location and easy parking!!!! Everything was so perfect each time we went during our vacation that we kept going back. It was me me, hubby and 2 kids. Beach with no waves, super clean, clear water! You can buy food, piña coladas and other drinks walking distance! It felt secured and amazing! We wanted chairs ($5 each) and umbrella ($10) for the whole day (closes at 5pm on weekdays) can’t wait to go back!!! It was about 10 mins in car from the Caribe Hilton hotel.

Pinones with kids weekday

Jun 2022 • Family

We took the 53 bus from Isla Verde. Very easy, but you need 75cents in change for everyone over 3. We walked the boardwalk and saw some interesting wildlife. That landed us at a empty beach that was beautiful. We weren’t sure about swimming there, so we walked back to the area near the kiosks. We swam in the protected water, which was great for kids. We got tons of fried treats at the kiosks, which were delicious.

good but not for swimming

Mar 2022

the beaches in Pinones are quite different then famous san Juan beaches- no buoys, no lifeguard- no shower-no parking areas. Some beaches are quite nice, others are rocky. windy and rough waves. so these beaches are not known for swimming.

but hey, this area is known for its food. Here you will find the best Alcapurrias, Bacalaito, and other local foods.
Piñones is the area that surrounds the PR-187 from Carolina to Loíza — a sandy road that is replete with restaurants and chinchorros, bordered by the Piñones State Forest on the south and the Atlantic Ocean on the north

Sundays are the busiest and most interesting days to go to Piñones since most kiosks are open. Locals prefer this area and tourists prefer San Juan. finding parking can be tough on weekends.

Great Island experience

Mar 2022 • Family

Must visit if you’re in Puerto Rico. Not only are the views of the beach and coastline landscape beautiful, the food is the Best and true to Puerto Rican cuisine. A bunch of little hole in the wall snack shacks and bars in a row. So much better than the tourist traps in San Juan. Definitely visit. Hang out, enjoy the food, music and drinks

Busy Area, but Beautiful

Jan 2023 • Couples

Lovely beach. Swimming could be dangerous if you go out too far. Lots of rocks and undercurrents. Loads of places to eat.

Dirty beach!

May 2022 • Family

The natural, reef enclosed “pool” was great for the kids. We rented an umbrella for $8 for the day.
The bad was that the beach, parking and adjacent areas were trash-strewn and very dirty. Would never return.

Beach time

Feb 2022 • Friends

Loiza Beach is not the tourist beach you may be accustomed to. It is a bit off the beaten path and unlike some of the more visited beaches in Puerto Rico this one is a bit more isolated. The water and sand is great, depending on where you settle at. The best part of the location is; when you get hungry all you have to do is walk up to the many eateries along the way and you can’t go wrong. The beach is a bit rustic but definitely worth the while.

Very calm

May 2021 • Family

Great for kids but be aware that it gets pretty crowded on weekend and there is hardly no shade. Gladly there is some people renting umbrellas and chair and there are plenty of places to grab a bite if you get hungry. Parking is in the street and it can be very windy sometimes. Remember to wear sunblock and don’t leave your trash behind.

Apr 2019 • Friends

Las Pocitas de Piñones is very close to San Juan , about 15 minutes, passing Carolina.
This place is ideal to come and relax in the water because is like kids’ Pool! Warm and calm, so you sit and don’t want to leave.
It has plenty of parking space across the street. I really suggest you to go.

Local’s go to

Mar 2019 • Friends

I absolutely love this beach. It is kind of like a natural pool because the rocks block the open ocean / waves. The water is very clear and the beach doesn’t get too full. They don’t have any restaurants walking distance but they do have kiosks with fried foods right in front of it. Very kid friendly, water is shallow.

Cute Beach

Oct 2018 • Couples

This beach is very cute, like a beach within a beach. We snorkeled there and saw lots of fish and crabs. The current is kind of strong, but staying put is not difficult. The water is never more than waist high, and there are many areas that are barely mid-calf. We saw a group with an umbrella stuck in the sand while they all sat under it in the water, which looked quite cozy. I would recommend visiting and I would visit it again.

Lesser known area to tourists

Jul 2017 • Couples

We heard about the Pinones area from our Uber driver who said the tourists don’t really know about it or go that way. When we rented our car we drove the coastal route from Carolina to El Junque. It seemed like we were there in just a few mins after leaving water beach club. There are tons of beach areas off the road, trails going through the jungle looking areas on each side of the road that lead to beach entrances, places to pull your car right up to a secluded beach area, lots of local hut type shops, bars and little food vendors. On our way back from El Junque we stopped at a roadside stand and asked the locals that were BBQing what all they had! They had tons of fried food and we wanted to try an empanada. They had about 7 different kinds of empanadas and fried fish, pork skewers etc. So we got a beef empanada because we are from Oklahoma haha and chatted it up with the woman that made it while we devoured it. Then we drove up a little more and pulled off to the beach. Parked 20 feet from the water and got out. It was private, the area we were at had more waves and had all sorts of shells on the beach. We grabbed a few souvenir sea urchin shells. They are everywhere on the beach where we were. Cool area. Going back again
