Kolya Serga and Regina Todorenko made up a tandem of hosts.

They landed at the San Juan airport, where they cast lots. Kolya got the gold card.

Puerto Rico is a US overseas possession. The island, which the Americans once conquered from the Spaniards, and made a first-class resort. Now it is the main rival of Miami.

Despite the fact that the island has been under US rule for 150 years, the Spanish flavor is still felt here, the whole of San Juan looks like Barcelona or Seville.

Puerto Rico is subject to the US constitution, but is not a state, although local residents are US citizens.

Regina began her acquaintance with Puerto Rico from its capital, San Juan. She decided to go to the center by bus for a dollar, but after waiting for it for more than an hour in unbearably hot weather, she decided to bargain with taxi drivers. The attempt failed, so she paid $21 for the fare.

Regina stopped by one of the cafes for lunch, where she ordered a traditional mofongo dish with chicken for $15, the most popular side dish in Puerto Rican cuisine. It is prepared from plantain – a variety of bananas, but not sweet and similar to potatoes.

Puerto Rico celebrates something every weekend to attract tourists – this is government policy. For example, on the days of shooting, there was a parade dedicated to Shrove Tuesday, or a circus festival right on the main street.

The fun in San Juan doesn’t stop even after dark. One half sips rum in bars, while the other half fires up salsa in the street.

The presenter stayed overnight with couchsurfer Andres, who kindly provided her with free accommodation. Andres works as a tour guide, and offered the lead morning tour of the El Yunque rainforest, charging $18 for gas alone.

He took Regina along a route prepared for tourists called “Five Lessons of Survival”. The main theses: not to be afraid of anything, to actively work with your hands, eat protein in the form of termites and drink water from a source, and, most importantly, love nature.

Kolya was picked up from the airport by a driver in a yellow convertible for $862 for two days.

The host stayed at the five-star Condado Vanderbilt Hotel, where he chose the presidential suite for $4,452.

Most of the beaches in Puerto Rico are rocky and dangerous, so tourists mostly swim in pools. Kolya asked the driver to take him to the coolest beach, but there were no people on it, because. bathing is prohibited.

Kolya rented a kayak for $50 and went to Fajardo Bay, where glowing plankton lives. But disappointment awaited him – he did not see any luminous algae.

The host had dinner at the Santaella restaurant for $178.
